Because I have a high eye number and accompanying astigmatism, I hadn't been examined for years due to urban myths that my eyes were unsuitable for surgery, that those who had surgery were unable to go out into the light for days, and that it was uncomfortable, and so on. I had to make do with high-precision glasses and plastic-thin lenses that made my surroundings look small and convex. I went for an examination during my annual leave, wondering what I had to lose, and hoping it wouldn't happen anyway.
