IEO is the first clinic that has implemented several groundbreaking innovations and techniques, which were adopted later in the best clinics all over the world. IEO Breast Program was established to promote early detection and public education regarding mammary diseases. Oncologists at the European Institute of Oncology have performed the largest number of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) procedures in Europe. This treatment presents a minimally-invasive way to eradicate cancer cells within patient’s body with high accuracy. Ultrasound imaging is used to locate target areas.

Outside the Institute

Physicians at the Department carry out more than 1,000 surgical operations with the assistance of robotic devices annually. There are 3 Da Vinci robotic systems at the Department’s disposal. These advanced devices are used in gynecology, head and neck treatment, thoracic, abdominopelvic surgeries, and breast operations. Training school is available in the Department to teach physicians to perform robotic-assisted operations. Robotic surgery has several advantages compared to traditional methods:

This technology is a precise and cheap method to identify cancer cell mutation.
