The Department of Urology at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital of the Catholic University of Korea is the first hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in Korea, we opened new horizons in the field of urology by performing radical bladder cancer surgery using laparoscopy for the first time in Korea, which is regarded as the most extensive surgery among urological surgeries with prostate cancer surgery. Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital of the Catholic University of Korea introduced the third generation robotic surgical instrument (Da Vinci S 3rd generation HD) for the first time in Korea with the opening of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in March 2009 and opened the era of robot surgery. The specialists of minimally invasive surgery of each department gathered and established the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Center on May 26, 2010. Minimally invasive surgery, which is the latest surgical trend, minimizes the incision region without laryngeal surgery. It has a small incision area, so there is no aftereffect, recovery is quick, scar is rarely left, and the patient can obtain cosmetic effect.The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital succeeded in robotic gastrectomy for early gastric cancer patients on October 13, 2022, achieving 10,000 da Vinci robotic surgeries in Korea.
