The University Hospital in Dusseldorf: more details about the clinic

Germany, Dusseldorf

North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populous state of Germany. Many banks and big companies are located here. Its capital Dusseldorf is famous for fashion shows and art exhibitions as well as Dusseldorf University Hospital that is a medical research center attended by patients from the whole Germany. Many visitors from other countries come here to get help for serious illnesses when other doctors give up. One of the reasons why the hospital is so popular is the combination of medical practices and research activities.

University Hospital achievements:

  • 30 institutes and clinics with different specializations
  • 4,500 medical specialists, 130 professors и 800 doctors
  • 61,000 beds for patients
  • 42,000 inpatients every year
  • 30,0000 outpatients every year

One more factor contributing to the hospital’s popularity is state-of-the-art equipment which makes surgeries with high precision and thoroughness possible. Urgent care facility, ultrasound division, radiology department, all operating rooms are equipped with necessary equipment. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are of high quality. This helps to develop and implement new techniques of treatment using stem cells and different types of genetics (including molecular and cellular genetics).

The most popular facilities of the hospital:

  • Orthopedics clinic – specialists of this division perform minimal invasive orthopedic surgeries for adults and children and improve prosthetics techniques. Non-prosthetic enhancements like cartilage plastic surgery and ultrasound impact treatment are becoming more popular.
  • Angiology clinic  (lymphatic and blood vessels) can also boast about numbers.. 1500 examinations, 2000 coronary stents, more than a thousand implanted pacemakers every year. Allogeneic transplantation has become very wide-spread recently which makes non-surgical revascularization gentle treatment.
  • Heart surgery clinic, where a unique operation was performed without a special device for cardiopulmonary bypass.
  • Oncology, hematology and immunology clinic. Specialists of this clinic have refused from a traditional chemotherapy and apply genetic engineering techniques, thermal therapy and transplant stem cells. It has become possible to affect the tumor without damaginghealthy tissues.

Every employee is carefully selected, at the stage of hiring every candidate takes a special exam where responsibility level and necessary skills are checked. Moreover, the administration organizes internal and external training courses on a regular basis. This pedantic approach to training contributes to fame of specialists far beyond this medical center.

If you need a good hospital with good Dr's and Nurses, come to uniklinik Dusseldorf. You can never go wrong, they make sure everything is alright before you leave.

1. They requested to deposit 1500 euro before medical exam in MNR clinic, for which I used my credit card. Final bill was 1200 euro. I was promised that 300 euro of unused funds is going to be returned back to my credit card within 4 weeks. Almost 3 months have passed - but no refund was issued. Called them 3 times, many emails, written letter from financial dept stating I should wait a bit longer.. And still nothing. I could never imagine this is possible in Germany. 2. At the same time doctors and med exam - all were excellent, fast, at high qualify. I am thankful for that. Special thanks to Dr. Amin Polzin, for fast response.

Wish I could give 0 stars. Terrible reception staff and rude nurses. About 6 weeks ago I came into emergency at 1am feeling ill after having pneumonia for the past 2 weeks, and was experiencing sever chills and difficulty breathing. I was a tourist in Dusseldorf and already feeling anxious being so sick so far from home. I initially had a check-up, then they asked me to wait to see a doctor, which ended up being close to 4 hours, with only a few other people in the waiting room. Nobody checked in on me even though I was visibly shaking and vomiting and clearly distressed. Finally saw a doctor who was lovely, but it was brief and all I received was an IV drip with broken wheels, and sent back into the waiting room until it was complete. After about 20 minutes, I was running on zero sleep and was desperate for it. The IV drip wasn't complete, but if they couldn't treat me any other way or give me a bed I was desperate to go home and sleep. The nurses then were very rude when I asked for it to be taken out, laughing at me when I started crying, and clearly talking about me in German thinking I wouldn't be able to understand. One nurse said "yeah I'm tired too" in a condescending way, showing zero empathy for my situation, while she's getting paid to be there, for a job she signed up for, meanwhile I'm having one of the worst days of my life. If this hospital wants any ounce of respect, they have to train their staff on empathy and attitude. Completely unacceptable and a traumatic experience.

THE WORST HOSPITAL EVER! I arrived with my partner early Sunday morning as my partner was extremely unwell and in need of help. The first initial check-in process was efficient but once we were told to wait for the doctor things went down hill… We waited for almost 3 hours to see a doctor despite the waiting room to be empty. Nurses simply walked past and didn’t bother to check in. The nurses on reception were not helpful either, almost seeming like they didn’t care or want to help. Once we finally saw a doctor, Dr Bernhard he was lovely and the only positive of this experience. We waited so long and received an IV drip but at this point we had been awake since 2am with minimal sleep and we were desperate to go home. We decided to ask the nurses to detach my partner from the drip and the nurses responded extremely rudely, bluntly and horribly to my partner. Some nurses laughed at my partner for crying, and we’re talking about her in German (we are from Australia). One nurse even had the audacity to say “i’m tired too” when we told her we wanted to leave. This is not the professionalism I was expecting. Overall the wait time and organisation of this hospital is extremely below par and the empathy and sympathy shown by the nurses is simply pathetic. I understand being a nurse is hard work, but the value of the job comes from the want and passion to help others and none of the nurses on this Sat afternoon seemed to have any of this. It is firstly inhumane to leave people who are sick to wait so long without any medical supervision and it is disgusting to treat patients the way these nurses did. Dr Bernhart was fantastic and such a lovely gentleman.

The clinic and doctors are amazing! Baby surgery was great! everything is professional!! but ... in the children's department - in the waiting room - there are no toys, this is a big minus for me, children and parents are already scared, and it would be interesting to spend 1-3 hours waiting with toys. a woman who works in K2 at the reception of documents, apparently does not like work very much. He speaks reluctantly, does not help to figure out what kind of documents are still needed to accept the child for ultrasound ... in general, they got a negative experience in communication and waiting.
