How Much Does Surgical excision of fibroadenoma Cost in Turkey?

Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey typically costs from $1,600 to $2,000. The final price depends on the hospital tier, surgeon expertise, and used diagnostic methods like ultrasound or biopsy. In the US, similar procedures cost around $5,400 on average. Turkey offers savings of around 67%. Packages often include the surgery, anesthesia, nursing care, and airport transfers.

  • City location: Main medical hubs for this procedure include Istanbul, Antalya, and Gebze.
  • Hospital accreditation: Prices vary between facilities with JCI and ISO international quality certifications.
  • Diagnostic requirements: Costs increase if pre-operative core needle biopsy or specialized pathology is required.
  • Comprehensive packages: Higher-tier options often add luxury accommodation, interpreter services, and extended hospital stays.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing Istanbul-based clinics affiliated with international institutions provides exceptional value. For example, Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine and holds JCI accreditation. Patients can find total excision packages at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental starting around $1,600. This is a smart move as it combines American-standard protocols with significant cost savings compared to Western private healthcare.

I liked the availability and competence of the teams. My operation went very well. What I didn't like was the fact that some of the post-operative tests were not included in the initial bill, the post-operative follow-up was not respected, and such an important appointment was missed... All in all, I'd highly recommend the service, as the expertise is...

I feel renewed
Successfully myomectomy Surgery My uterus, my decision: First of all, I am genuinely grateful to Prof Cem Iyibozkurt of Florence Nightingale Istanbul for saving my uterus, which doctors in the UK have declared damaged and useless and saying that the only option for me was a hysterectomy, and I was totally against it. I recently had a successful myomectomy at the end of March 2025, which removed 81 fibroids, and the largest fibroid was a size 21x20 cm. I was diagnosed with multiple fibroids in August 2023, which were in different locations. I had a protruded stomach, and I looked like 6 months pregnant. The fibroids also pressed on my pelvic nerves, causing my left leg to swell and causing excruciating pain. They were also pressing on my internal organs, causing my kidneys to swell, and I became incontinent because they were pressing on my bladder, and I could not empty the bladder. My menstrual blood was so heavy I had to request my employer to work remotely during my menstrual month as I needed to change pads regularly or change clothes in case they had overflowed. I researched and came across Prof Cem Iyibozkurt with the help of Bookemed medical coordinator Olha and medical coordinator Alisher, who arranged my first video consultation with Prof Cem Iyibozkurt. After a video consultation, I agreed on the date for my surgery, and then Olha and Alisher arranged all my appointments, hospital transportation, and airport pick-up. I am genuinely grateful that my surgery went successfully. I spent 3 days in the hospital. On the discharge day, I felt good and confident enough to walk and had less pain around the stomach area. Today is week 4, past surgery; my scar is healing beautifully and is invisible. You won't even know that I just had a myomectomy surgery. All the discomfort I used to have is gone. No more incontinence pads and my left leg no longer causes pain or gets swollen. I feel renewed. I would recommend Prof Cem Iyibozkurt and Florence Nightingale Istanbul Hospital to any woman looking for the best doctor and hospital for myomectomy surgery.
I liked all the arrangements from the first time I contacted the medical coordinators to the last day I returned to my home country. They were kind, good listeners and responded to my specific demands.
I cannot complain

"I think I made the right choice by choosing this clinic
The first time they flew to the clinic for a checkup back in March. And already at the end of May they flew in for an operation. Literally half a day to prepare for the operation, hospitalization early in the morning, European-level ward (5 star hotel). They brought a bathrobe and slippers. I just managed to put on the issued stockings, and I was already invited to the operation. The operation took 4 hours, brought immediately to the ward. Well, as usual, a departure from anesthesia, but by the evening she was already moving around. She stayed in the hospital for 2 days after the operation. This is constant monitoring by medical, middle and junior staff. There are many translators, which is very convenient. They fed not only me, but also my husband, who was nearby. Water, tea and coffee were constantly replenished. Discharged 2 days after the operation. So far so good, I'm following the doctor's recommendations. I think I made the right choice by choosing this clinic. I recommend to everyone.

FAQ about Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which hospitals in Turkey are recommended for this procedure?

Recommended Turkish hospitals for surgical fibroadenoma excision include JCI-accredited facilities like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Hospitals Group. These centers offer specialized breast surgery departments with European Board-certified surgeons and advanced diagnostic imaging, ensuring precise tumor removal with a focus on aesthetic outcomes.

  • Top clinics: Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Göztepe Hospital provide specialized breast tumor removal.
  • Accreditations: Leading facilities maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) and ISO certifications for safety.
  • Specialized surgeons: Procedures are performed by experts like Dr. Nuri Alper Sahbaz and Dr. Koray Karabulut.
  • Strategic locations: Clinical hubs in Istanbul and Antalya offer the highest concentration of English-speaking staff.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for the largest hospital complexes, smaller JCI-accredited centers often offer more competitive pricing for benign breast surgeries. Hisar Hospital Intercontinental provides specialized excision packages starting at $1,600, which is significantly lower than the $4,600 entry point at some larger university-affiliated networks in Istanbul.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize verifying individual surgeon credentials and requesting scar-minimization techniques. Most suggest staying for 2–3 weeks to allow for proper imaging confirmation and necessary post-operative follow-up visits.

What is typically included in medical travel packages for fibroadenoma excision in Turkey?

Medical travel packages for fibroadenoma excision in Turkey typically include the surgical procedure, anesthesiologist fees, and pre-operative diagnostics like ultrasounds or blood work. These bundles often cover 1 night of hospital stay and VIP transfers, providing roughly 67% savings compared to average US costs of $5,400.

  • Surgical costs: Covers surgeon fees, anesthesia, operating room use, and all medical materials.
  • Clinical diagnostics: Includes pre-op consultations and essential imaging such as breast ultrasounds or mammograms.
  • Hospital stay: Most packages provide 1 or 2 nights in a private hospital room.
  • Logistics support: Standard inclusions feature VIP airport-to-hotel transfers and local transport for clinic visits.
  • Post-operative care: Bundles typically encompass follow-up exams and initial recovery medications like painkillers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics claim all-inclusive status, higher-tier packages like those at Memorial Göztepe Hospital cover the excision of multiple tumors regardless of the number of incisions. This is a significant value-add for patients with bilateral or multiple fibroadenomas, as standard low-cost packages often charge per individual mass removed.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of confirming if pathology reports and antibiotics are included in the initial quote. There is a strong recommendation to arrange travel insurance that specifically covers surgical tourism and potential follow-up care before traveling.

Will the surgery affect breastfeeding?

Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey typically has minimal impact on breastfeeding, as surgeons prioritize nerve and duct preservation. Your ability to nurse depends on the tumor location and incision type, with techniques like minimally invasive surgery further reducing risks to milk production and nipple sensation.

  • Incision location: Incisions in the upper outer quadrant generally carry the lowest risk of duct damage.
  • Sensation preservation: Periareolar incisions around the nipple may cause temporary numbness but rarely sever essential nerves.
  • Milk production: Most patients maintain full supply unless major milk ducts are directly cut during excision.
  • Recovery period: Sensation usually returns within 2 to 8 weeks as local nerves heal and regenerate.
  • Safe timing: Experts suggest waiting 1 year post-surgery before pregnancy to ensure complete tissue healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many think tumor size determines breastfeeding risk, our data shows surgical approach is more critical. Look for clinics like Emsey Hospital, which holds the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation. This certification signals a clinical environment specifically optimized for supporting lactation and maternal health, ensuring your surgeon is attuned to preserving breastfeeding function during tumor removal.

Patient Consensus: Most women report no long-term issues with milk supply, though temporary tingling or numbness near the incision is a common part of the healing process.

Can the fibroadenoma grow back after complete excision?

Fibroadenomas can grow back after complete surgical excision, though true recurrence at the exact same site is uncommon, appearing in 1% to 10% of cases. Most new lumps are actually separate growths triggered by the same hormonal environment rather than fragments of the original mass.

  • Recurrence vs. new growth: True recurrence involves leftover microscopic cells, while new masses appear in different breast quadrants.
  • Size risk factor: Masses exceeding 2 cm during initial diagnosis show a higher statistical likelihood of returning.
  • Clean surgical margins: Achieving pathology-confirmed clear margins can reduce the local recurrence rate to under 5%.
  • Hormonal triggers: Significant shifts like pregnancy or changes in birth control can stimulate new fibroadenoma development.
  • Patient age: Younger patients with juvenile fibroadenomas face higher risks due to naturally rapid tissue growth.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic removal starts at $1,600, high-volume Turkish centers like Memorial Göztepe Hospital offer specialized total excision packages. These cover all benign tumors regardless of the number of incisions. This is a strategic choice for patients with multiple lesions, as it ensures every detected mass is addressed in one session to minimize future surgical needs.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of getting pathology confirmation after surgery to ensure complete excision. Many found that regular follow-up ultrasounds every 6–12 months provided the most peace of mind during recovery.

How long will the surgery take?

Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey typically takes 20 to 45 minutes of active operating time. Patients usually spend 2 to 4 hours at the clinic when including preoperative preparation and monitoring. Highly experienced surgeons in Istanbul often complete standard removals in under 30 minutes.

  • Operating time: Active surgery lasts 25–30 minutes for most 2 cm tumors.
  • Total facility time: Expect 2–4 hours for registration, surgical prep, and immediate recovery.
  • Complexity factors: Large or deep-seated fibroadenomas may extend surgery to 60 minutes.
  • Anesthesia impact: Local anesthesia offers the fastest procedure time and streamlined post-op monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Turkish centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli shows that surgical efficiency is a major differentiator. While some general surgeons handle these cases, choosing a specialized breast surgeon or an endocrine specialist like Dr. Nuri Alper Sahbaz often results in shorter operative times and more precise incisions. This expertise is particularly valuable for multiple fibroadenomas, as specialized packages in Turkey often cover the removal of all benign tumors regardless of the total count.

Patient Consensus: Many patients are surprised by the speed of the procedure, often describing the actual surgery as quick and manageable. Most report being able to leave the clinic the same day and returning to light activities within 24 hours.

What types of anesthesia are used?

Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey primarily utilizes local anesthesia with optional sedation for 30-minute outpatient procedures. General anesthesia remains an alternative for larger tumors exceeding 5 centimeters, bilateral cases, or high patient anxiety to ensure comfort during complex breast surgery.

  • Local anesthesia: Standard choice using lidocaine to numb the specific incision site.
  • Monitored sedation: Often called twilight anesthesia, providing a relaxed, pain-free experience via IV.
  • General anesthesia: Reserved for invasive cases, causing complete unconsciousness during the surgical removal.
  • Tumescent technique: Diluted local anesthetic mixture used to reduce bruising and post-operative discomfort.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Istanbul clinics like Anadolu Medical Center shows a strong preference for local anesthesia to minimize recovery time. While packages range from $1,600 to $2,000, choosing local anesthesia typically allows patients to walk out of the clinic the same day with no systemic side effects like nausea.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the quick 30-minute turnaround of local anesthesia but often recommend adding mild sedation to eliminate procedural anxiety. Most reported being able to return to their hotel immediately after the surgery with only minor bruising.

How long is the total recovery timeline?

Most patients return to daily activities 1 to 2 weeks after fibroadenoma excision in Turkey. While light desk work is possible within 3 to 7 days, full recovery with no physical restrictions typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Minimally invasive techniques often allow for faster healing timelines.

  • Daily activities: Patients usually resume normal routines within 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Work transition: Light office work is feasible after 3 to 7 days of rest.
  • Physical restrictions: Avoid lifting over 5lbs for 10 days to prevent seroma or hematoma.
  • Travel timeline: Vacuum-assisted excision allows patients to fly home as early as day 3.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Turkish centers like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental shows that choosing vacuum-assisted excision significantly reduces downtime compared to traditional open surgery. While open surgery requires 3 to 4 weeks for tissue healing, vacuum methods often see patients fully recovered in under 7 days. If you are traveling internationally, adding a 2 to 3 day buffer for follow-up appointments and jet lag recovery is highly recommended.

Patient Consensus: Expect bruising and swelling to peak around day 4, which can sometimes mimic the original lump and cause temporary anxiety. Most survivors emphasize wearing a supportive bra and using arnica to manage these local symptoms during the first 2 weeks.

What is typically included in a surgery package in Turkey?

Surgery packages in Turkey typically provide an all-inclusive experience covering medical fees, clinical diagnostics, and logistics. Standard bundles include the surgical procedure, anesthesia, a 1–2 night hospital stay in private rooms, and essential post-operative medications. Many providers also incorporate VIP transfers and 4 or 5-star hotel accommodations.

  • Medical services: Covers surgeon fees, anesthesiology, operating room costs, and pre-operative tests.
  • Hospital stay: Includes 1–2 nights in JCI-accredited facilities with nursing care and meals.
  • Logistics support: Provides VIP airport transfers and ground transport between hotel and clinic.
  • Recovery essentials: Bundles initial follow-up consultations, pathology reports, and necessary post-surgical medications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier clinics like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Shisli Waterfall reveals a distinction between basic and premium packages. While low-cost options starting at $1,600 focus on the surgery and hospital stay, premium packages often include 5–8 nights in luxury hotels. Choosing a mid-range package usually ensures dedicated translation services and comprehensive pathology reports, which can otherwise cost an additional $150 to $300.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the convenience of pre-arranged transport but advise confirming if pathology and MRI are included. Many recommend demanding an itemized quote to ensure items like compression garments or translator fees are not extra costs.

Will there be visible scarring?

Surgical excision of fibroadenoma in Turkey typically leaves minimal scarring because surgeons use cosmetically placed incisions. Most incisions are only 1–2 cm long and located along the areola edge or breast fold. These marks generally fade and flatten significantly within 6–12 months post-operation.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide marks along the areola edge or within natural breast creases.
  • Suture technique: Centers like Medipol Mega use fine, dissolving stitches to minimize skin tension.
  • Scar maturation: Redness typically fades to a faint white line after 1 year.
  • Laser treatments: JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul offer laser therapy if scars remain visible.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Istanbul facilities like Hisar Hospital shows a preference for periareolar incisions. This technique places the scar exactly where the dark areola meets lighter skin. This natural border acts as built-in camouflage, making the 1-2 cm mark nearly invisible to the naked eye after healing.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report that scars become barely noticeable faint lines within a year. Those with darker skin tones recommend using silicone sheets or vitamin E oil starting 2 weeks post-op to prevent darkening.
