Philipp Riss

Univ. Prof. Dr. Philipp Riss is a leading Austrian endocrine and general surgeon, internationally recognized for his expertise in thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal gland surgery, as well as his research in endocrine oncology. His precise surgical skill and evidence-based approach have made him one of Austria’s most respected authorities in endocrine and metabolic surgery.

He studied medicine at the University of Vienna, graduating in the 1990s, and completed his residency in general and visceral surgery at the Medical University of Vienna. Early in his career, he specialized in the surgical treatment of endocrine disorders, combining his knowledge of metabolism and hormone regulation with advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques.

     1990s – Completed medical studies and surgical training at the University of Vienna.

     2000s – Specialized in endocrine and metabolic surgery, performing thyroidectomies, parathyroid resections, and adrenal surgeries.

     Today – Serves as senior consultant at Wiener Privatklinik and Vienna General Hospital (AKH), focusing on endocrine oncology, hormone-related diseases, and precision surgical therapy.

Prof. Riss has published widely on thyroid and parathyroid disorders, endocrine tumor biology, and postoperative outcomes, helping to shape current European standards in endocrine surgery. He is also deeply involved in academic teaching and international surgical collaborations, mentoring the next generation of endocrine surgeons.
