The therapy of the diseases such as renal pelvic outlet stenosis, ureteral stenosis, bladder diverticula (protrusions of the bladder tissue), bladder neck stenosis, urorectal and urovaginal fistulas as well as urethral strictures (scarring stenoses) is carried out regularly in our clinic.
Narrowing of the upper urinary tract, the bladder outlet or the urethra can be congenital, the result of surgery or radiation, or can occur after inflammation.
Fistulas are usually the result of surgery or radiotherapy. Veicovaginal fistulas can also occur after natural birth. The above-mentioned clinical pictures are expressed through very different symptoms. Flank pain, urinary tract infections, involuntary loss of urine or a weakened urinary stream are just some of the conceivable signs of the disease. Often, a suspected diagnosis is already made by the resident urologist. Depending on the clinical appearance, imaging with magnetic resonance tomography, computer tomography (CT), scintigraphy (nuclear medicine procedure that uses weak radioactive substances to show metabolic activity and blood flow) or iv urogram (X-ray examination of the urinary tract) can help.
In the case of bladder neck stenosis and urethral strictures, we also carry out our own X-ray examinations (retrograde urethrography = radiological imaging of the urethra, micturition cystourethrogram = imaging during bladder emptying) in addition to a possibly indicated urethroscopy.
