If a semi-rigid prosthesis without a bending feature is installed, the penis is constantly erect and ready for sexual intercourse. This does not require any preparation. However, if penile prostheses with a bendable feature are used, the penis can be bent as desired and brought into the appropriate position before and during sexual intercourse.Inflatable penile implants can be inflated and deflated using a pump and valve. The pump unit is placed between the skin of the scrotal sac located between the testicles. Before sexual intercourse, fluid is pumped from the reservoir inside the abdomen or testicle to the penis using the pump, causing the penis to become erect. Then, after intercourse, the fluid returns to the reservoir inside the penis by pressing the deflation valve at the base of the pump, and the penis returns to normal.
