What are the types of open spinal decompression?
There are several types of operation:
- interlaminar - resection of the arches of two adjacent vertebrae;
- osteoplastic - after resection of the vertebral arch, the doctor closes the hole with a special implant;
- exploratory - a diagnostic operation to assess the condition of the spinal canal.
What are the indications and contraindications for the procedure?
Indications:
- narrowing of the spinal canal;
- hernia of one or more intervertebral discs;
- bone growths (osteophytes) of the spine;
- spinal tumor;
- disorders caused by pinching of the spinal cord (disorders of urination and digestion, loss of sensation and impaired mobility of the limbs).

What does preparation for surgery include?
Before the operation, the patient must undergo an examination:

How is the procedure and recovery going?
During the procedure, the patient is under general anesthesia. The neurosurgeon makes a small longitudinal incision (up to 3 cm), removes the vertebral arches and sutures.
In the first days, to reduce pain, the doctor prescribes a course of analgesics to the patient.
Full recovery period takes up to 6 weeks , during which you can not bend over sharply, lift weights and sit for a long time. If the work is associated with intense physical activity, then their maximum limitation is recommended. In this case, the patient must perform a set of therapeutic exercises. In some cases, physiotherapy is prescribed.
