About the clinic

Cataract treatment at Memorial Şişli Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, offers a spectrum of options. An initial consultation is around $220, standard monofocal lens surgery costs about $2,200 per eye, and advanced multifocal procedures typically run $5,200 for both eyes. The clinic is the first JCI-accredited hospital in Turkey and is led by an eye surgeon with over 1,100 cataract procedures performed.

Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ozkaya heads the ophthalmology service. He brings _doctor_1837_years_ of specialized experience. His work includes 1,100+ surgeries performed and over 80 international publications. He is also an active member of the European Vitreoretinal Society.

Diagnostic Evaluation

Every treatment plan begins with a thorough eye exam. The hospital uses modern diagnostic technology. Available tests include:

  • Consultation with ophthalmologist
  • IOL Master measurement for precise lens calculation
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) for detailed retinal imaging
  • Comprehensive eye examination

A full diagnostic set may cost around $500–$1,500. The IOL Master measurement itself is typically $450–$500.

Surgical Treatment Options

The primary method is phacoemulsification, a minimally invasive technique. It uses ultrasound to break up the cloudy lens. The surgeon then implants a new artificial lens, called an IOL. Hospital stay is usually one day as an outpatient. Recovery often takes 2–7 days.

Patients can choose from different lens types based on their vision goals:

  • Phacoemulsification with monofocal IOL: This standard option provides clear vision for one distance, like far away. It may cost around $1,950–$2,370 per eye.
  • Phacoemulsification with multifocal IOL: This advanced lens corrects vision for near, intermediate, and far distances. It aims to reduce dependence on glasses. The price is typically $2,500–$3,400 per eye.
  • Smart lens (trifocal IOL): A premium option for complete visual freedom at all ranges.
  • Scleral fixation surgery: A specialized technique for complex cases where standard lens support is not available. This procedure may cost around $7,400.

Treatment Packages and Support

Memorial Şişli offers bundled packages for convenience. A package for both eyes with multifocal lenses may cost around $5,800. It often includes surgery, lenses, consultation, and the IOL Master measurement.

A more comprehensive package is available for about $9,420. It typically covers a full physical exam, bilateral multifocal surgery, all diagnostics, and a one-day hospital stay. The hospital provides additional support like airport transfers and hotel booking assistance.

Patients interested in this accredited care can get a detailed consultation to plan their individual treatment.

**Terrible Experience at This Hospital – Avoid at All Costs!** I took my mother to this hospital when she was in critical condition with stage 3 cancer. They demanded **$800 upfront** before providing any treatment. We paid, but they didn’t even give her **emergency care**—instead, they sent her back to the hotel. We had no choice but to transfer her to another hospital since they refused to help. Despite multiple requests, they **never refunded the $800**. For months, they kept making excuses, then **falsified a payment receipt**, claiming they sent the money to my bank account. But the details on the receipt were completely wrong—**not my account number at all**. It’s clear they **stole the money**, likely splitting it among themselves, knowing we couldn’t take legal action after leaving Turkey. What’s worse, their staff, especially the **head translator "Serdal"**, was extremely rude. When I complained, he just said, *"Go ahead, complain wherever you want—you can’t do anything."* They took advantage of my mother’s suffering, and now that she has passed away, we’ve stopped pursuing it. But I want to warn others: **DO NOT TRUST THIS HOSPITAL.** They are scammers who exploit vulnerable patients. **Be very careful before going there—learn from our painful experience. If you notice this post Management You can contact me at this number and I will show and prove everything to you.

Facility: Pristine clean. very well maintained. Staff members: lethargic and unmotivated. I was there for a surgery and my post-operative pain was unbearable. I did not speak Turkish so I had to use Yandex translator. I asked twice for more painkiller because I felt like being stabbed and choked, but both times they ignored my requests and went back to playing on their phones. I had to go to their desks and demand a better pain killer for the third time and 2 hours of agonizing pain. They just don't seem to pay attention because my translator clearly asked for a painkiller but they responded that I still have to keep my medical dressing on??? I had to call the operating doctor and his personal assistant to get them to actually work. While I was in my room, there were several kids just running up and down the hallways and nobody seemed to take their parents accountable.

In August 2024, I was on the holiday in Turkey (Izmir) after a little over a week I got really sick and went to the local hospital in Izmir. Unfortunately, as much as they tried to help me and in overall all doctors and staff was amazing. I was told that they could not do much and I needed bigger/ better hospital more specialistic. So, I flew to Istanbul and it turned out that I needed an emergency operation ( I had symptoms in 2023 but in the Uk ultrasound and bloods even tho I know now having a copy of the results were bad they just ignored it cos I was young and nothing to worry according to the Uk NHS) I was operated and it was a really complicated operation, however thanks to Prof Dr Veysel and his amazing team of highly Skilled doctors I was saved. Stayed at the hospital for 7 days and another few weeks before I could fly back to the Uk. I am still here and I am ok, still I come for check ups to Prof Dr Veysel. I am grateful and there are no words for how thankful I am to All that took part in saving me. GOD BLESS YOU ALL 🙏🫶🫶
