About the clinic

Cataract treatment at the Nordrhein-Westfalen Clinic Complex in Düsseldorf, Germany, provides full diagnostics and surgery. Diagnostic tests like refractometry cost around $117, while advanced surgery with lens replacement is around $3,515. The clinic network uses the modern LenSar® femtosecond laser and operates on an outpatient basis.

The clinic offers a multi-step diagnostic process. This confirms the cataract and determines the best surgical approach. A complete cataract diagnostic package before surgery costs around $410. Available diagnostic methods include:

  • Refractometry and Ophthalmoscopy (around $117 each)
  • Corneal Topography with a Pentacam system
  • Retinal Tomography using HRT III technology
  • Subjective and objective refraction tests

Available Cataract Treatment Methods

The primary treatment is cataract surgery. The clinic uses advanced techniques for precise results. The main surgical option is phacoemulsification or extracapsular extraction. These procedures can be enhanced with the femtosecond laser for improved accuracy.

The standard surgical package is Cataract surgery with IOL replacement. This costs around $3,515. The price covers the entire process for one eye. The package includes:

  • The surgical procedure and artificial lens (IOL) implantation
  • All pre-operative preparations and surgeon fees
  • Anesthesia and early post-operative rehabilitation
Travel, accommodation, and translation services are not included. A standalone Femtosecond laser treatment is available for around $703. This does not include consultation or diagnostics.

Surgical Procedures and Retinal Care

The clinic performs all surgeries on an outpatient basis. Patients can typically go home the same day. The femtosecond laser automates key steps for consistency. This modern equipment helps ensure a stable outcome.

For complex cases, the clinic offers Vitrectomy. This retinal surgery addresses complications like a dislocated lens. The procedure may cost around $8,787. The need for this surgery and hospital stay depends on the individual case.

The clinic complex has five locations and an international patient center. Their approach combines precise diagnostics with modern surgical technology. To learn more about the treatment packages, you can contact the clinic directly.

A modern hospital with very friendly staff, but there are also negative aspects. There are no TVs in the rooms anymore. The reason for this is Wi-Fi. Everyone has a device, but what do older people do if they don't have one? You can no longer choose your food; you're assigned a meal, although there are already a variety of dishes, which I find a bit unreasonable. What was really pleasant, however, were the extremely friendly nurses.

The emergency room was a disaster, a very unfriendly and rude doctor who barely spoke German. It's unbelievable what patients and relatives have to put up with at the heart clinic. Later, on ward A1.1, there's no blanket for the patient, and no one cares. The only answer is, "We don't have any." Never again in this hospital. I just hope it doesn't spread to the heart clinic, because the KWK was always very good.

I was here a month ago for cardiac ablation and was really impressed—the whole experience was outstanding. I thought, "Wow, if I ever have a problem again, I'll come here." The doctors were great, as were the nurses. But then I came back here for the pacemaker lead change. I was admitted to ward B3.1 on Monday and was supposed to have surgery on Tuesday, but it was postponed to Wednesday and then again to Thursday, supposedly due to an emergency. I've been here almost a week now with nothing happening, and it's really frustrating. How can you stay patient? You're already sick, and then you have to put up with things like this. When you ask the nurses for something, you often feel like you should be grateful, even though there are simple things like using the toilet that's been soiled by an elderly roommate. The hygiene leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm honestly disappointed. Whether I'll come here again is something I'll have to think about seriously in the future.
