According to the St. Mary’s Hospital’s data, the medical facility is the 5th in bone marrow transplants — over 7,300 procedures have been performed here (about 500 stem cell transplants per year).

In 1983, specialists conducted the first allogeneic bone marrow transplant in South Korea. Such a procedure helps to restore blood formation in a patient with hematologic malignancies after high-dose chemotherapy.

The hospital provides 39 well-equipped wards where patients can rehabilitate after bone marrow transplants.

Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital was the first in South Korea to conduct:

  • liver transplant in 1969;
  • cornea transplant in 1980;
  • small intestine transplant in 2004.

Doctors of the hospital have performed about 1,000 liver transplants, 3,000 kidney transplants, and 3,400 cornea transplants up to 2018.
