He previously served as a full professor at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and as Head of Department at Halle University. His expertise also includes orthognathic surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, cleft lip and palate surgery, microvascular jaw reconstruction, distraction osteogenesis, and guided dental implant surgery. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery and serves on the editorial boards of other journals.
