Removal of meningioma in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Meningioma removal in Mexico typically costs $21,150–$42,300, compared to over $60,000 in the US—offering savings of 30–65%. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (2–5%), neurological deficits, or bleeding, similar to rates in US neurosurgery centers when performed by qualified teams.
Qualified surgeons. Neurosurgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, often with US or European fellowships and 10+ years of experience. Follow-up care. Post-surgical monitoring and rehabilitation may be more challenging from abroad, though many clinics offer telemedicine and discharge planning.
Modern facilities. Surgeries are performed in JCI- or ISO-accredited hospitals using equipment from GE, Medtronic, and Siemens, matching US standards. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA. However, top clinics follow international protocols and undergo regular accreditation checks.
Advanced surgical techniques. Minimally invasive and neuronavigation-guided procedures are available, reducing hospital stays and improving recovery rates. Travel and recovery logistics. Traveling after brain surgery can be taxing. Patients should plan for extended stays and ensure a safe recovery environment.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified neurosurgeons in accredited hospitals, removal of meningioma in Mexico can offer safe, affordable care for international patients.

The medical team was great
The medical team was great, the hospital was top notch. Dr. Pliego was available online throughout the entire process (both pre and post surgery) and the surgery went smoothly.
Even though Dr. Pliego was in another surgery when I was released from the hospital, I appreciated the hospital was able to provide my prescription for both antibiotics and pain medicine so I was able to leave and recover in our Air BnB s I was ready to leave the hospital.
I signed a lot of paperwork that wasn't in english.
About Bookimed service
