I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing so far and anticipate being even happier as the swelling goes down and my new figure fully reveals itself
Dr Ana was very sweet and helpful as was her daughter Louise. Despite the language barrier they were able to communicate to me what the procedure was going to be in terms of medical tests on surgery day. The anesthetist was wonderful and easy to communicate with. The nurses who tended to me post procedure were very kind, but there was definitely a language barrier. I had hoped to be able to use my phones translator, but did not anticipate how difficult it would be for me to move after the procedure often times I would not be able to reach my phone. Once I arrived there, there were some nominal unanticipated additional costs that I was not made aware of. Specifically, $200 a night to sleep another night in the clinic when I was too swollen and sore to move and wasn't going to be able to get on a plane just yet. I stayed in a nice hotel the night before the procedure and paid only $77 for that accommodation. It would be different if they had been bringing me juice and water frequently or otherwise caring for me, but I often found myself dehydrated and lacking cold water. I appreciate that they brought me food, but all of the food that they brought me was so dry that I could not eat it because my mouth was already so dry. They were very sweet to go and get me and ice cream when I asked for a popsicle. Otherwise you got whatever they gave you, whenever they decided to give it to you. The rest of the time I was just left alone in my room, which was fine because I really was not able to move. There are times and it would have been helpful to have someone nearby to hand me lip balm from my bag, but generally I was left by myself. I am 2 weeks out from my procedure so I'm still very swollen, St iff and sore, but I can tell that the surgeon did an excellent job with my procedure. I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing so far and anticipate being even happier as the swelling goes down and my new figure fully reveals itself. This is not the same kind of experience as having cosmetic surgery in the states. There's very little consultation/ pre-op care other than the scheduling. The Aftercare is almost non-existent. I was prepared for that and so I had real significant complaints outside of the lack of pain management offered post procedure.
About Bookimed service
The interface is very easy to use and I was able to get quotes quickly, choose a clinic and book my procedure within a few weeks. I had a very specific time frame that I had already purchased airfare to San Diego for, and the clinic was very accommodating.

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.

FAQ about Lipolysis in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What support is available if I experience complications after returning home?

If you experience complications after returning home, maintain contact with your Mexican surgeon who may provide guidance via virtual consultations. Additionally, seek assistance from a local healthcare professional familiar with post-surgical care. Some clinics also offer warranty programs or corrective procedures at reduced rates if needed.

Will my health insurance cover any part of the procedure if done in Mexico?

Most health insurance plans do not cover cosmetic procedures like Lipolysis performed abroad; however, it's best to check with your provider for specific coverage details. Some insurers may offer partial coverage if deemed medically necessary or part of reconstructive surgery. Always confirm coverage details before scheduling your procedure.

How can I ensure that the facility meets international health standards?

To ensure a facility meets international health standards, look for accreditations from organizations like ISAPS or JCI. These accreditations indicate adherence to stringent safety and quality protocols. Visiting the clinic beforehand or consulting with past patients can provide additional assurance.

Are there any hidden costs associated with getting Lipolysis in Mexico?

While many clinics offer competitive pricing for Lipolysis, it's essential to inquire about all potential costs upfront. Hidden costs may include anesthesia fees, post-operative medications, or additional follow-up appointments. Ensure you receive a detailed breakdown of expenses before committing to the procedure.

What should I know about travel arrangements for medical procedures in Mexico?

When planning travel for medical procedures in Mexico, ensure you have all necessary documentation, including medical records and identification. It's advisable to arrive a few days before your procedure for pre-operative consultations. Consider arranging accommodation close to the clinic for convenience and ease during recovery.

How do I handle follow-up care once I return home after having Lipolysis in Mexico?

For follow-up care after returning home, many clinics offer virtual consultations via video calls. It's important to maintain communication with your surgeon for any concerns or complications that may arise. Additionally, arrange for a local healthcare provider to assist with any immediate post-operative needs.

What are the potential risks and complications associated with Lipolysis in Mexico?

Potential risks of Lipolysis include infection, uneven fat removal, scarring, and skin irregularities. Choosing a qualified surgeon minimizes these risks, but it's essential to discuss all potential complications during your consultation. Post-operative care is crucial to mitigate these risks effectively.

Are there any language barriers I should be concerned about during my treatment in Mexico?

Language barriers can vary depending on the clinic; however, many facilities catering to international patients have English-speaking staff. It's advisable to confirm language support during your initial consultation. Some clinics also offer translation services to ensure clear communication throughout your treatment.

What is the recovery process like after Lipolysis, and how long will it take?

The recovery process after Lipolysis typically takes about 1 to 2 weeks, with most patients experiencing mild swelling and bruising. It's crucial to follow post-procedure instructions, such as wearing compression garments and avoiding strenuous activities, to ensure optimal results. Full recovery and visible results may take several months.

How do I verify the credentials of a Mexican clinic offering Lipolysis?

To verify the credentials of a Mexican clinic, check for accreditation from reputable organizations such as the ISAPS or national health authorities. You can also look for reviews from previous patients and consult with medical tourism agencies that vet clinics for quality and safety.

What are the qualifications of surgeons performing Lipolysis in Mexico?

Surgeons performing Lipolysis in Mexico often have extensive training and are certified by national and international boards. Many have completed fellowships or additional training abroad, such as in the United States or Europe. Always verify that your chosen surgeon is a member of recognized professional bodies like the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Is it safe to undergo Lipolysis in Mexico?

Undergoing Lipolysis in Mexico can be safe if you choose a board-certified surgeon and a reputable clinic. Many Mexican clinics adhere to international standards, and some are accredited by organizations like the ISAPS. Ensure that the facility follows strict hygiene protocols to minimize risks.
