Multiple sclerosis rehabilitation in Mexico: Pros and Cons

Multiple sclerosis rehabilitation in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Rehabilitation programs cost $4,000–$8,000 in Mexico versus over $10,000 in the US, providing savings of 40–60%. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (rates under 2% in accredited facilities) or therapy-related complications, similar to rates in the US.
Qualified professionals. Therapists and physicians are certified by Mexican rehabilitation boards, often with international training and 10+ years’ experience in neurology and rehabilitation. Follow-up care. Ongoing therapy may require coordination with providers at home. However, some clinics offer tele-rehabilitation or remote progress tracking.
Modern facilities. Leading clinics in Mexico City and Monterrey are JCI-accredited, equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies from brands like BTL and Biodex. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA, but top clinics meet JCI or ISO standards and use FDA-cleared equipment.
Personalized care plans. Programs typically include physical, occupational, and speech therapy tailored to each patient’s needs and goals. Travel logistics. Traveling with mobility challenges can be difficult, but clinics often provide accessible transportation and accommodation guidance.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. Patients should carefully research and choose reputable providers to maximize safety and rehabilitation outcomes.

Mrs Bernaschia is empathetic and competent
I am pleased to be in a helping relationship with Anna from Bookimed. Our discussions lasted several months and she was always very accommodating and generous with her time. As for the rest of the treatment with Juventa, everything went according to plan. On the first day, I received 125 million cells and 6 billion exosomes in the IV (as planned), and 25 million in the joint of my thumb, which was full of osteoarthritis. On the second day, I received IV NAD and a subcutaneous placenta implant. Mrs Bernaschia is empathetic and competent. The work was carried out in a relational, professional and respectful manner.
The interpersonal skills of everyone involved.
The surprise of being "treated" at "home". I hadn't understood this part of the medical journey.
