How Much Does Mastectomy Cost in Thailand?

Mastectomy in Thailand typically costs from $3,600 / ฿122,400 to $7,500 / ฿255,000, depending on the surgical technique and clinic accreditation. The final price varies based on the chosen hospital tier, stay duration, and city, with Bangkok being the primary medical hub. Patients save approximately 84% compared to the US, where the average cost is $35,000 / ฿1,190,000. Packages usually include surgeon fees, anesthesia, and several nights of hospital stay.

  • Surgical technique: Simple procedures are most affordable, while bilateral or skin-sparing mastectomies increase the pricing.
  • Hospital accreditation: Facilities accredited by JCI or ISO often charge more for premium safety protocols.
  • Concurrent reconstruction: Adding immediate breast reconstruction can increase the total cost by approximately 30-50%.
  • City location: Prices in Bangkok hubs like Huai Khwang often differ from regional centers in Pattaya.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a multi-specialty center provides superior value for complex oncological cases. Bumrungrad International Hospital and Bangkok Hospital offer high-tech robotic surgery and AI-driven diagnostics. For example, Bumrungrad serves 1,000,000 patients annually and is ranked among the world's best hospitals. If seeking gender-affirming surgery, specialized clinics like Wansiri Hospital report a 99% success rate. These premium facilities include comprehensive nursing care that justifies the higher initial price point.

"I was extremely satisfied with everything that happened to me at this wonderful hospital"
I was extremely satisfied with everything that happened to me at this wonderful hospital. I don't think that there is a hospital in Asia which can compare with this one. From the doctors to the nurses and all other personell in this hospital ALL are competent, very polite and friendly - the only small criticism that I have is that unfortunately many don't speak English very well, that's a great shame.

I would strongly recommend it to other people looking for medical care
I am very happy with the treatment I've so far received at Bumrungrad International Hospital. Beginning last year, I've made three separate visits for treatment at the hospital. The staff are extremely professional and efficient using very modern equipment. The cost of treatment is competitive. I would strongly recommend it to other people looking for medical care.

FAQ about Mastectomy in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Aftercare: How many drains will I have, and who will remove them if I leave the hospital?

Most mastectomy patients in Thailand receive 1 to 2 surgical drains per side, totaling 2 to 4 for bilateral procedures. Your surgeon or trained clinical staff will remove them during a follow-up visit once fluid output drops below 25–30 mL over 24 hours.

  • Drain count: Expect 1 or 2 drains per side depending on tissue removal and reconstruction.
  • Removal criteria: Removal occurs when fluid output stays below 30 mL for 2 consecutive days.
  • Typical timeframe: Surgeons usually remove drains 7 to 14 days after the procedure.
  • Removal process: A provider snips the anchor stitch and slides the tube out without anesthesia.
  • Monitoring task: Patients must log daily output and maintain suction by squeezing the bulb.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While JCI-accredited centers like Yanhee or Bumrungrad International provide high-end clinical care, your recovery often shifts to a hotel. In Bangkok, many clinics utilize mobile nursing teams to monitor your drainage levels at your accommodation. This ensures professional oversight while allowing you to recuperate in a more comfortable, private environment before your final clinic removal appointment.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of taking daily photos of drain output to share with their surgical team. This practice provides clear evidence for safe removal and offers peace of mind when recovering away from the hospital.
