Good afternoon! I would like to leave a review: I would like to express my sincere gratitude to your company for the impeccable organisation of my examination. Every stage was thought out down to the smallest detail, which allowed me to feel completely safe and comfortable. Special thanks to the doctors — Dr. Bülent and Dr. Kemal. They are top-level specialists whose attention to detail and professionalism command deep respect. I really appreciate the thorough approach they took to my diagnosis. I would also like to thank the coordinator, Seda, for her sensitivity, and the female translators who accompanied me every step of the way and were a real support. I wish you prosperity, and the doctors further success in their noble work. I will confidently recommend you to my friends and family!

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way
There are certain issues with the hospital, in particular, the staff who are in no hurry and we had to spend the whole day in the hospital instead of a few hours - we waited, waited, and waited again..... But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way. Thank you.
Overall, the hospital is good
Perhaps it's due to a different mentality, but we didn't really like waiting endlessly - no procedure or appointment started on time, no one is in a hurry and no one appreciates other people's time.

Comfortable room for the patient and the attendant (in our case) Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors. The medical staff also, put all the drips, served and made all the analyses on schedule. All promptly and without unnecessary questions. Tasty and nourishing food was provided for both the patient and the attendant. On the territory of the hospital is a beautiful small park for walking, as well as in the clinic itself there are many places for rest and waiting The clinic met all expectations and costs

Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice
I, Temirbek Ormotoev came from Kyrgyzstan, I chose Florence Nightingale Hospital which was helped by bookimed company and the staff of this company liked me, especially I am happy to deal with Professor Ahmet-Tunch Ozdemir. Today is the 3rd day after the operation performed by Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir. The operation was done wonderfully, I am satisfied and also the hospital conditions and medical staff were top notch, everyone is polite to the patients, especially the head nurse and nurse Linhai were very good at patient care. Why did I choose Florence Nightingale specifically? Because this hospital is one of the advanced hospitals in Turkey and there is a DaVinci robotised system. I have a neoplasm in my kidney over 30 mm. Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir performed the operation within 1.5 hours and he has golden hands. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice. I was discharged on the second day after surgery, I feel great and recovery is underway. In terms of the cost of paying for the surgery, compared to other clinics in Turkey, it is realistic and inexpensive. Mr Ahmet-Tunc Ozdemir, my family and I wish you good health, longevity, good luck in everything and that you stay for a long time saving patients from various diseases, Allah help you. I am also grateful to the medical coordinators of bookimed platform, Liana, who from the very beginning until today accompanies and helps with treatment abroad and assistants named Alisher, translator Aigerim, who know their business professionally. Thank you all who helped me with this situation, Allah bless us all.
Liked Prof Ahmet-Tunç Özdemir, service, medical staff, clinic, overall everything is good.

I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation
I can’t thank Professor Sezer Sağlam and our guide Aliçer enough for the incredible care they showed during our visit to Florence Nightingale Hospital. I was very worried about the trip and my mum’s consultation, especially after a previous bad experience at another hospital where we were constantly pushed to upsell unnecessary scans. At Florence Nightingale, there was none of that—everything was professional, honest, and focused on what my mum actually needed. Their kindness, attentiveness, and guidance turned a stressful experience into one where we truly felt cared for. I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation.

Our Removal of liver cancer Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Removal of liver cancer, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Liver resection

Liver resection, also known as hepatectomy, involves surgically removing a portion of the liver to treat liver tumors or other liver-related conditions.

Pros: This procedure allows for precise removal of liver tumors with a high success rate in eligible patients. It can be performed using minimally invasive techniques, reducing recovery time by 50% compared to open surgery.
Cons: There is a risk of liver failure if too much liver tissue is removed. The procedure may not be suitable for patients with poor liver function or extensive liver disease.
Effectiveness: Success rate of up to 90% for localized liver tumors.
Duration: 3-5 hours
Recovery: 4-6 weeks
Best for: Patients with localized liver tumors, metastatic liver disease, or liver lesions not responding to other therapies.
Prices: Cost of Liver resection in Turkey from $11,700

FAQ about Removal of liver cancer in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What tests determine whether I am eligible for liver cancer surgery?

Eligibility for liver cancer surgery in Turkey depends on imaging scans to map tumor boundaries and blood tests to evaluate organ function. Surgeons specifically require a healthy future liver remnant (FLR) and a Child-Pugh Class A score to ensure the remaining tissue can support life after resection.

  • Imaging scans: High-resolution CT and MRI determine tumor size, number, and proximity to major vessels.
  • Liver function: Blood tests calculate Child-Pugh and MELD scores to assess safe operative limits.
  • Volumetry tests: Surgeons use 3D reconstruction to ensure the remaining liver portion is over 20-30%.
  • Cardiopulmonary clearance: EKG, echocardiograms, and lung function tests confirm you can safely undergo general anesthesia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center maintain high success rates by using 3D liver mapping. This technology helps surgeons `see` the internal vascular structure before the first incision. While some international centers are conservative with borderline cases, Turkish specialists often provide second opinions on portal vein embolization to grow the liver remnant before surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that bringing recent high-quality imaging discs can significantly speed up the evaluation process. Many found that the 7-10 day workup in Istanbul was much faster than waiting for similar multidisciplinary reviews in their home countries.

What complications should I watch for after hepatectomy?

Post-hepatectomy patients must monitor for liver failure, bile leakage, and hemorrhage. Most serious complications occur within the first few weeks. Watch for jaundice, mental confusion, or severe abdominal pain. Early detection of these symptoms at JCI-accredited Turkish centers ensures rapid intervention and higher recovery success rates.

  • Liver failure: Monitor for yellowing eyes, skin, or sudden mental confusion and fatigue.
  • Bile leakage: Watch for persistent yellow-green drainage from incisions or sudden abdominal swelling.
  • Internal bleeding: Check for dizziness, rapid heart rate, or dark, tarry stools post-surgery.
  • Infection signs: Report fever spikes above 100.4°F, chills, or redness at the site.
  • Fluid buildup: Note any shortness of breath or sudden, unexplained weight gain and bloating.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centers like Memorial Sisli and Anadolu Medical Center report donor-level safety standards with 90–99% success rates in complex liver surgeries. Data shows that clinics using robotic systems like da Vinci often reduce the risk of bile leaks. Patients should prioritize facilities with 24/7 international coordination to manage travel-related fatigue, which can mask early recovery complications.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize tracking drain color and volume daily to catch leaks early. They recommend having a symptom list translated into Turkish for faster emergency communication during the first 8 weeks of recovery.

What are the primary surgical options for liver cancer in Turkey?

Primary surgical options for liver cancer in Turkey include partial hepatectomy and living donor liver transplantation. Turkish oncology centers utilize robotic da Vinci systems and laparoscopic techniques to perform tumor resections. Advanced non-surgical alternatives like radiofrequency ablation and SIRT therapy are also widely available at JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Partial hepatectomy: Removes the tumor and healthy tissue margins via open or laparoscopic approaches.
  • Liver transplantation: Replaces the diseased organ using healthy tissue from living or cadaveric donors.
  • Ablation techniques: Uses microwave or radiofrequency energy to destroy small tumors without invasive surgery.
  • Embolization internal radiation: Delivers high-dose radiation directly to tumors through SIRT or TACE procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish hospitals like Memorial Atasehir report liver transplant success rates reaching 99.5%. This high performance stems from a massive volume of living donor cases. Centers such as Medipol Mega serve over 1,000,000 patients annually. This scale allows surgeons to master complex vascular reconstructions that smaller clinics rarely handle.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that recovery after hepatic resection usually takes 4–8 weeks and involves significant fatigue. Many recommend verifying that clinics provide post-operative MRI monitoring that meets international standards for recurrence detection.

What is included in the fixed-fee hepatectomy package in Turkey?

Fixed-fee hepatectomy packages in Turkey provide comprehensive coverage including the surgical procedure, pre-operative diagnostics like MRI or CT scans, and multi-day hospital stays. These bundles typically incorporate surgeon fees, anesthesia, and essential logistics such as VIP airport-to-clinic transfers for international patients seeking liver cancer treatment.

  • Medical evaluations: Includes pre-operative consultations, blood panels, and advanced imaging like MRI.
  • Surgical costs: Covers operating room fees, surgeon remuneration, and all necessary medical materials.
  • Hospitalization: Provides 3 to 10 days in a private room with meals.
  • Patient logistics: Includes 24/7 translation services and VIP transfers between airport and hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier facilities like Anadolu Medical Center and Medipol Mega shows a significant shift toward robotic-assisted surgery. While standard resections are common, choosing a package with da Vinci technology often includes specialized disposable materials that aren't in basic bundles. Patients should check if the fixed fee covers at least 2 days in the ICU, as liver surgery complexity often requires closer initial monitoring than general abdominal procedures.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of requesting a detailed itemized list of inclusions before arrival. Many travelers recommend budgeting for a 20% contingency fund to cover potential recovery extensions or processing time for pathology reports.

What is the success rate for liver cancer surgery in Turkish hospitals?

Turkish hospitals report high success rates for liver cancer surgery, with immediate surgical success reaching 99.5% for transplants and 90% for resections. Leading centers like Memorial Healthcare Group and Acibadem Healthcare Group utilize robotic-assisted systems and JCI-accredited protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

  • Surgical success: Immediate success ranges from 85% to 99.5% across major Turkish centers.
  • 1-year survival: Patients undergoing liver resection see approximately 91% to 92% survival rates.
  • Advanced technology: Surgeons use the da Vinci robotic system for high-precision tumor removal.
  • Living donor safety: Turkey maintains a 97% to 99% success rate for living donor procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High success rates in Turkey are often driven by massive patient volumes and specialized expertise. Memorial Sisli Hospital, the first JCI-accredited facility in Turkey, maintains a 90% organ transplant success rate. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center, affiliated with Johns Hopkins, serve 65,000 patients annually, ensuring surgeons maintain the high procedure volumes necessary for superior outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that achieving clean margins is a major quality indicator during recovery. Many choose Turkey to access advanced imaging and pre-operative assessments that significantly boost long-term survival odds.

Which are the leading cities in Turkey for liver cancer surgery?

Istanbul and Ankara are the primary hubs for liver cancer surgery in Turkey, housing the highest concentration of JCI-accredited oncology centers. Istanbul leads with advanced robotic platforms at Medipol Mega and Anadolu Medical Center, while Ankara is recognized for high-volume academic expertise at Lokman Hekim University.

  • Istanbul medical hub: Features world-class facilities like Anadolu Medical Center, affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine.
  • Ankara surgical centers: Known for specialized oncology units at Memorial Ankara and Medicana International Ankara.
  • Antalya regional care: Memorial Antalya Hospital provides specialized oncological and general surgery for international patients.
  • Advanced technology: Leading clinics utilize Da Vinci robotic systems, CyberKnife, and NanoKnife for precision resections.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Istanbul is the most popular choice, Memorial Ataşehir Hospital in Istanbul stands out for its clinical success, maintaining a 99.5% success rate for liver transplants. This high technical proficiency reflects the surgical team's ability to handle the most complex liver cancer resections effectively.

Patient Consensus: Patients prioritize Istanbul for VIP service and private robotic surgery, while Ankara is favored for its concentrated academic expertise. Most recommend planning a 2–4 week stay post-surgery to ensure proper monitoring and recovery before traveling home.

How long is recovery after liver cancer surgery in Turkey?

Recovery after liver cancer surgery in Turkey typically takes 4 to 12 weeks for full functional restoration. Patients usually remain in-country for 10 to 14 days post-operation. Initial healing allows a return to non-physical work within 4 to 8 weeks in Joint Commission International accredited facilities.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 5 to 10 days inpatient, though robotic procedures may reduce this to 3 days.
  • Physical activity: Gentle walking begins on day 1, but avoid all heavy lifting for 8 weeks.
  • Liver regeneration: Healthy liver tissue typically regrows to near-original size within 6 to 8 weeks post-resection.
  • Travel readiness: Surgeons usually clear international patients for flight after 14 days of stable local monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier Istanbul centers shows a trend toward early discharge between days 4 and 7. While this reduces hospital costs, patients should book a nearby hotel for an additional 7 days. This buffer is critical for managing the peak fatigue that typically hits during week 3.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report being surprised by the level of exhaustion 1 month after surgery. While they were walking within a week, most needed 6 full weeks off work to recover their energy.

Which hospitals in Turkey are highly ranked for liver cancer treatment?

High-ranking Turkish hospitals for liver cancer treatment include Anadolu Medical Center, Memorial Şişli, and Medipol Mega University Hospital. These centers maintain Joint Commission International accreditation and use advanced technologies like Da Vinci robotic systems, CyberKnife, and TrueBeam STx to provide precise oncology care.

  • Surgical accreditation: Leading centers hold JCI and ISO certifications for oncological safety.
  • Advanced technology: Facilities use robotic-assisted resection and MRIdian real-time MRI-guided radiation.
  • Specialized expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Mustafa Solak bring experience from MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Success rates: Top units like Memorial Ataşehir report 99.5% success for complex liver procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer resection, Medipol Mega University Hospital stands out by serving 25,000 international oncology patients annually. This massive volume suggests their multidisciplinary teams handle complex cases more frequently than smaller boutique clinics. If your case involves inoperable tumors, prioritize centers like Acıbadem that offer MRIdian technology for superior targeting.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently praise Memorial and Acibadem for their multidisciplinary teams and successful laparoscopic removals. Many emphasize the importance of getting a PET-CT scan before traveling to ensure accurate staging.

What should international patients plan regarding their stay after liver cancer surgery in Turkey?

International patients should plan for a total stay of 2 to 4 weeks in Turkey for liver cancer surgery. This includes a hospital stay of 7 to 14 days and up to 21 days of local recovery to monitor for complications like bile leaks.

  • Hospital admission: Expect 7 to 14 days for monitoring under general anesthesia and clinical care.
  • Local recovery: Budget 14 to 21 days in a nearby hotel for post-discharge wound management.
  • Travel clearance: Surgeons typically advise waiting 4 to 6 weeks before flying to prevent blood clots.
  • Documentation needs: A passport valid for 180 days and a medical visa are mandatory for entry.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While major centers like Anadolu Medical Center offer JCI-accredited care, patients should budget an extra $5,000 to $10,000 for potential stay extensions. Data shows that post-discharge complications are rarely covered in standard surgical quotes, making refundable hotel bookings a critical financial safeguard.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the necessity of bringing a companion to manage daily hospital visits and medication. It is also highly recommended to pack compression socks as local pharmacy options may vary from home.
