How Much Does Myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) Cost in Turkey?

Myomectomy in Turkey typically costs from $3,100 to $7,000 depending on the surgical technique, fibroid complexity, and hospital tier. Patients save approximately 78% compared to the US, where the average price for this procedure is $23,500. Standard packages usually include the surgery, anesthesia, preoperative tests, hospital stay, and VIP airport transfers in major hubs like Istanbul and Ankara.

  • Robotic-assisted myomectomy: Typically adds 30-40% to the cost due to specialized technology and precision.
  • Laparoscopic approach: Often costs more than open surgery but offers faster recovery and shorter stays.
  • Surgical excision of fibroadenoma: $1,600 to $2,000 for the removal of benign breast lumps.
  • Hospital location: Facilities in Istanbul may charge 15-20% more than clinics in regional cities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a facility with JCI accreditation ensures international safety standards without necessarily hitting the highest price point. For instance, Istinye University Hospital offers robotic packages starting around $4,500. This includes advanced technology and comprehensive services like full board. Meanwhile, Anadolu Medical Center, affiliated with Johns Hopkins, provides premium multidisciplinary care. Investing in these specialized centers ensures access to surgeons with robotic-assisted certifications.

I liked the availability and competence of the teams. My operation went very well. What I didn't like was the fact that some of the post-operative tests were not included in the initial bill, the post-operative follow-up was not respected, and such an important appointment was missed... All in all, I'd highly recommend the service, as the expertise is...

I feel renewed
Successfully myomectomy Surgery My uterus, my decision: First of all, I am genuinely grateful to Prof Cem Iyibozkurt of Florence Nightingale Istanbul for saving my uterus, which doctors in the UK have declared damaged and useless and saying that the only option for me was a hysterectomy, and I was totally against it. I recently had a successful myomectomy at the end of March 2025, which removed 81 fibroids, and the largest fibroid was a size 21x20 cm. I was diagnosed with multiple fibroids in August 2023, which were in different locations. I had a protruded stomach, and I looked like 6 months pregnant. The fibroids also pressed on my pelvic nerves, causing my left leg to swell and causing excruciating pain. They were also pressing on my internal organs, causing my kidneys to swell, and I became incontinent because they were pressing on my bladder, and I could not empty the bladder. My menstrual blood was so heavy I had to request my employer to work remotely during my menstrual month as I needed to change pads regularly or change clothes in case they had overflowed. I researched and came across Prof Cem Iyibozkurt with the help of Bookemed medical coordinator Olha and medical coordinator Alisher, who arranged my first video consultation with Prof Cem Iyibozkurt. After a video consultation, I agreed on the date for my surgery, and then Olha and Alisher arranged all my appointments, hospital transportation, and airport pick-up. I am genuinely grateful that my surgery went successfully. I spent 3 days in the hospital. On the discharge day, I felt good and confident enough to walk and had less pain around the stomach area. Today is week 4, past surgery; my scar is healing beautifully and is invisible. You won't even know that I just had a myomectomy surgery. All the discomfort I used to have is gone. No more incontinence pads and my left leg no longer causes pain or gets swollen. I feel renewed. I would recommend Prof Cem Iyibozkurt and Florence Nightingale Istanbul Hospital to any woman looking for the best doctor and hospital for myomectomy surgery.
I liked all the arrangements from the first time I contacted the medical coordinators to the last day I returned to my home country. They were kind, good listeners and responded to my specific demands.
I cannot complain

"I think I made the right choice by choosing this clinic
The first time they flew to the clinic for a checkup back in March. And already at the end of May they flew in for an operation. Literally half a day to prepare for the operation, hospitalization early in the morning, European-level ward (5 star hotel). They brought a bathrobe and slippers. I just managed to put on the issued stockings, and I was already invited to the operation. The operation took 4 hours, brought immediately to the ward. Well, as usual, a departure from anesthesia, but by the evening she was already moving around. She stayed in the hospital for 2 days after the operation. This is constant monitoring by medical, middle and junior staff. There are many translators, which is very convenient. They fed not only me, but also my husband, who was nearby. Water, tea and coffee were constantly replenished. Discharged 2 days after the operation. So far so good, I'm following the doctor's recommendations. I think I made the right choice by choosing this clinic. I recommend to everyone.

FAQ about Myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the typical recovery timeline after myomectomy in Turkey?

Recovery after myomectomy in Turkey typically spans 1 to 6 weeks depending on the surgical technique. Most patients regain basic mobility within 1 to 2 weeks, while a full return to work generally requires 4 to 6 weeks of healing time.

  • Hysteroscopic recovery: Patients often return to light activity in 1 to 3 days after surgery.
  • Laparoscopic timeline: Expect 1 to 2 weeks for mobility and 2 to 4 weeks for full recovery.
  • Abdominal surgery: Open procedures require 4 to 6 weeks for full recovery and 5 nights hospitalization.
  • Physical restrictions: Avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, and sexual intercourse for at least 6 weeks post-op.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic mobility returns quickly, our data shows that international patients often face hidden fatigue for 4 weeks longer than expected. Modern techniques like the V-NOTES scarless approach at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental can significantly reduce external scarring, but internal uterine healing still requires 3 to 6 months before planning pregnancy.

Patient Consensus: Many women report feeling well enough to walk by day 4, but emphasize using compression socks during the flight home to prevent blood clots. Some experience temporary sleep disruptions or hot flashes around week 3 due to hormonal shifts during the healing process.

What does an all-inclusive myomectomy package in Turkey usually cover?

All-inclusive myomectomy packages in Turkey typically cover surgical fees, general anesthesia, and 2 to 5 nights of hospitalization. These bundles generally include pre-operative diagnostics like blood tests and ECG, plus VIP transfers between the airport, hotel, and Joint Commission International-accredited clinics in Istanbul.

  • Medical evaluations: Packages include gynecological consultations, anesthesiologist reviews, and standard pathology examinations.
  • Post-operative care: Nursing care, recovery medications, and wound dressing sets are standard inclusions.
  • Logistics support: Most plans provide airport-clinic-hospital transfers and professional language assistance services.
  • Hospital amenities: Private rooms often include full-board meals for the patient and one companion.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer base packages around $3,100, premium options at Johns Hopkins-affiliated centers like Anadolu Medical Center reach $15,000. These higher-tier packages often include up to 5 nights of hospitalization, which is crucial for complex multiple myomectomies involving over 80 fibroids.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the European-level hospital wards that feel like 5-star hotels, though many recommend budgeting for an extra 7-10 days at a local hotel to ensure a safe flight home.

Is myomectomy in Turkey safe and what are the risks?

Myomectomy in Turkey is safe when performed at JCI-accredited hospitals such as Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental. Success rates range from 85% to 95% for symptom relief. Advanced techniques like Da Vinci robotic surgery and V-NOTES scarless surgery minimize traditional risks like excessive bleeding.

  • Surgeon expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal have performed over 900 gynecologic procedures.
  • Clinical standards: Top facilities maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and Johns Hopkins affiliations.
  • Recovery period: Patients typically return to work within 10 days after minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.
  • Common risks: Potential complications include pelvic adhesions, infection, and a 30% to 50% recurrence risk.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a significant technological gap between entry-level and premium packages. While basic open surgeries start at $3,100, Anadolu Medical Center offers robotic Da Vinci systems for approximately $15,000. Choosing robotic or V-NOTES techniques reportedly leads to faster recovery and almost invisible scarring.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of thorough fibroid mapping before surgery to prevent recurrence. Many recommend staying in Istanbul for at least 14 days to ensure proper post-operative follow-up.

Will I have visible scars after laparoscopic myomectomy?

Laparoscopic myomectomy results in 3 to 5 tiny scars, typically 0.5 to 1 cm long, which are significantly smaller than traditional open surgery. Surgeons strategically place these incisions near the belly button and bikini line to ensure they remain discreet or hidden by swimwear.

  • Incision size: Most entry points measure only 5 to 12 mm in total length.
  • Strategic placement: One incision is usually hidden deep within the navel for natural concealment.
  • Advanced technology: Robotic-assisted systems like Da Vinci allow for even more precise, smaller entry ports.
  • Scarless alternative: The V-NOTES technique removes fibroids through natural orifices, leaving no visible abdominal scarring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While laparoscopy is the standard for small scars, patients with very large fibroids should prioritize clinics offering V-NOTES or robotic surgery. At Anadolu Medical Center, surgeons use these advanced methods to avoid the larger mini-laparotomy incisions sometimes required in basic laparoscopy to extract dense tissue. This ensures the best cosmetic outcome regardless of fibroid size.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while incisions may appear pink or raised for the first 3 weeks, they typically fade into barely noticeable white lines within 6 months. Many emphasize that keeping the area dry in the first week is the most critical factor for a clean final look.

How long should I plan to stay in Turkey for myomectomy surgery?

International patients should plan to stay in Turkey for 10 to 14 days for a myomectomy. This window accommodates pre-operative blood tests, the surgical procedure, a 2 to 5 night hospital stay, and essential post-operative monitoring to ensure safety before your return flight.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 2–5 nights depending on whether you undergo open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted surgery.
  • Flight safety: Surgeons typically clear patients for air travel 7–10 days after the surgical procedure.
  • Pre-op timeline: Arrive 1–2 days before surgery for consultations and required JCI-standard medical screenings.
  • Recovery buffer: Allot 5–7 additional days post-discharge for wound dressing changes and final physical exams.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many standard packages like those at Anadolu Medical Center include 5 nights of hospitalization, real-world data shows patients often need a 12-day total trip. Choosing the V-NOTES scarless technique or robotic surgery at clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental may lead to faster mobilization. However, patients regularly extend stays to 14 days to avoid the discomfort of traveling while managing post-surgical bloat or fatigue.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while you might feel mobile by day 3, rushing to fly home can cause severe pain or swelling. Many recommend booking 14 days to ensure you can walk through the airport comfortably without needing assistance.

What qualifications do Turkish myomectomy surgeons have?

Turkish myomectomy surgeons are board-certified Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists who complete 11 years of medical training. Many hold advanced certifications in robotic surgery and minimally invasive techniques from international bodies like the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) or institutions like Johns Hopkins.

  • Medical education: Requires a 6-year medical degree followed by 5 years of specialized residency.
  • Board certification: Mandatory registration with the Turkish Medical Association and passing the TUS examination.
  • Advanced expertise: Top surgeons often hold academic titles like Associate Professor or Full Professor.
  • Robotic proficiency: Many specialists complete fellowships at US centers like Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Case volume is a stronger indicator of success than just years of experience. For example, Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal at Hisar Hospital has performed over 900 gynecologic surgeries. Similarly, Prof. Cem Iyibozkurt at Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital successfully removed 81 fibroids in a single complex procedure, highlighting the technical skill available in high-volume Turkish centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients report feeling renewed after complex removals, often finding that Turkish surgeons successfully preserve the uterus even when doctors in other countries recommended a full hysterectomy.

How long should I plan to stay in Turkey for a myomectomy package?

Plan for a 7 to 14 day stay in Turkey for a uterine myomectomy package. This timeframe covers pre-operative blood tests, the surgery itself, and essential recovery. While hospital stays range from 2 to 5 nights, surgeons require a final follow-up before clearing you for international travel.

  • Laparoscopic stay: Budget 7 to 10 days total for minimally invasive or robotic-assisted fibroid removal.
  • Open surgery stay: Plan for 10 to 14 days due to larger incisions and longer monitoring.
  • Hospitalization duration: Packages at JCI-accredited clinics like Anadolu Medical Center typically include 5 nights of inpatient care.
  • Flight safety: Expect a mandatory 7 to 10 day wait post-op to minimize blood clot risks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics market 7-day stays, high-volume surgeons like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal, who has performed 900+ surgeries, emphasize the pathology review. Choosing a package with 5 nights of hospitalization at Anadolu Medical Center provides a safer buffer than 2-day stays for managing post-op swelling or pain.

Patient Consensus: Patients strongly advise booking travel-extendable insurance and choosing packages with extra hotel nights. Real-world recovery often requires 10 days rather than 7 to handle unexpected fatigue or the physical demands of airport transit.

Which surgical techniques are offered: open, laparoscopic, robotic, hysteroscopic?

Gynecologic surgeons in Turkey offer open, laparoscopic, robotic, and hysteroscopic myomectomy techniques to remove uterine fibroids. Selection depends on fibroid size, number, and location, with specialized centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Health Group providing minimally invasive Da Vinci robotic and scarless V-NOTES options.

  • Open myomectomy: Traditional abdominal incision for multiple or very large fibroids exceeding 10 cm.
  • Laparoscopic approach: Minimally invasive pinhole surgery offering faster recovery and lower infection risk.
  • Robotic system: High-precision Da Vinci technology utilized for complex suturing in deep pelvic areas.
  • Hysteroscopic technique: Incisionless procedure via the cervix specifically for internal submucosal uterine fibroids.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While robotic surgery is often marketed for its precision, experienced Turkish surgeons like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal at Hisar Hospital perform over 900 procedures using varied techniques. Data shows that opting for V-NOTES scarless surgery can significantly reduce external scarring while maintaining the efficacy of traditional laparoscopic removal.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while recovery for robotic or laparoscopic methods is often just 1 week, verifying a surgeon's specific volume of 50 or more cases annually is crucial for ensuring a smooth, minimally invasive experience.

How long will I stay in Turkey and what is the expected recovery timeline?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 to 14 days for a myomectomy, including 2 to 5 nights in the hospital. While initial recovery allows for travel after 10 days, full internal healing generally requires 4 to 8 weeks before resuming strenuous activities.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 2 to 5 nights depending on laparoscopic, robotic, or open surgical techniques.
  • Travel window: Most surgeons clear patients to fly home 7 to 10 days after the procedure.
  • Initial recovery: Return to sedentary work or light walking is usually possible within 7 to 14 days.
  • Full healing: Complete recovery and return to heavy exercise typically takes 6 to 8 weeks total.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a shift toward the V-NOTES scarless technique and Da Vinci robotic systems in Istanbul. These advanced methods often reduce hospital stays to just 2 days. Hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center provide 5-night inpatient stays in their standard packages. This extra monitoring is a significant safety buffer compared to the 1-night stays common in other regions.

Patient Consensus: Patients report feeling well enough to walk comfortably by the discharge day, though many advise planning for 10 to 14 days total. Significant bloating and gas pain are common in the first week, but scars heal quickly and often become nearly invisible within a month.

Is Turkish accreditation for gynecological surgery reliable, and what qualifications should I check?

Turkish accreditation for gynecological surgery is highly reliable when facilities maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) certification and Ministry of Health authorization. Specialized surgeons often hold European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) credentials or international fellowships from institutions like Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

  • Surgeon education: Verify a 6-year medical degree plus 5 years of gynecology residency.
  • Subspecialty training: Look for robotic surgery certificates or gynecologic oncology fellowships for complex cases.
  • Hospital standards: Prioritize JCI-accredited centers with in-house pathology and advanced diagnostic imaging.
  • Success metrics: Confirm the surgeon has performed 200+ procedures, specifically in laparoscopic or robotic techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top-tier Turkish hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital often offer high-tech alternatives like V-NOTES scarless surgery or Da Vinci robotic systems. While basic myomectomy starts at $3,100, these advanced techniques provided by surgeons with 900+ cases significantly reduce recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that video consultations are vital for discussing uterine preservation. Many report that Turkish specialists successfully saved their uterus after being told a hysterectomy was the only option in their home countries.

Who is a good candidate for myomectomy in Turkey?

A good candidate for myomectomy in Turkey is typically a woman with symptomatic uterine fibroids who wants to preserve her fertility or avoid a hysterectomy. Ideal patients often present with heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure, or fibroids affecting bladder and bowel function.

  • Fertility preservation: Women planning future pregnancies who need to keep the uterine wall intact.
  • Fibroid specifications: Patients with intramural or subserosal fibroids, ideally under 10 cm in diameter.
  • Symptom severity: Individuals experiencing anemia from heavy periods or chronic pelvic pain and pressure.
  • Technique suitability: Candidates for minimally invasive options like laparoscopic, robotic, or scarless V-NOTES techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics suggest a limit of 5 fibroids for minimally invasive surgery, Turkish specialists often manage much higher volumes. For instance, Prof. Cem Iyibozkurt at Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital has successfully removed up to 81 fibroids in a single session. This high-volume expertise at JCI-accredited centers allows patients with complex cases to still avoid a full hysterectomy.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how Turkish surgeons prioritize saving the uterus when other doctors recommend removal. Many report that even after removing massive fibroids, the recovery is fast and scarring is nearly invisible within four weeks.

What is typically included in a myomectomy medical travel package?

Myomectomy medical travel packages in Turkey typically bundle the surgical removal of uterine fibroids with comprehensive logistical support. These all-inclusive plans generally feature advanced techniques like laparoscopic or robotic surgery, JCI-accredited hospital stays of 2 to 5 nights, and VIP airport-to-clinic transfers to ensure a seamless international patient experience.

  • Surgical techniques: Packages cover laparoscopic, robotic Da Vinci, or V-NOTES scarless surgery options.
  • Medical fees: Inclusion of surgeon fees, anesthesiology, and nursing staff is standard service.
  • Diagnostic tests: Pre-operative blood work, pelvic ultrasounds, and ECGs are usually bundled together.
  • Hospitalization stay: Most plans provide 2 to 5 nights in a private hospital room.
  • Logistics support: VIP transfers between the airport, hotel, and clinic are almost always included.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many packages advertise a $3,110 starting price, the most value-driven options are found at Anadolu Medical Center due to its Johns Hopkins affiliation. Their $15,000 robotic package includes 5 hospital nights, which is significantly longer than the standard 2-night stay at other Istanbul clinics, offering more critical post-op monitoring for the same price tier.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently highlight the 5-star hotel atmosphere and the relief of having dedicated translators. Many advise budgeting 20% extra for potential add-ons like pathology reports or unexpected medication needs during recovery.

Will there be visible scars after laparoscopic myomectomy?

Laparoscopic myomectomy leaves 3 to 5 small incisions, typically 0.5 to 1.5 cm long. One incision is hidden within the belly button, while others sit low near the bikini line. These tiny marks fade significantly over 6 to 24 months, eventually becoming faint, skin-toned dots.

  • Incision size: Most laparoscopic marks measure only 5 to 10 mm in length.
  • Strategic placement: Surgeons often place incisions low in the pelvic area to hide marks.
  • Advanced options: V-NOTES technique allows for scarless surgery by removing fibroids through natural openings.
  • Healing timeline: External redness typically flattens and pales within 6 to 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While laparoscopy is standard, Turkish clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental now offer V-NOTES for zero external scarring. For traditional laparoscopy, surgeons like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal, with over 900 gynecologic surgeries, use sub-cuticular sutures. This technique avoids external `railroad track` marks, as all stitches remain hidden under the skin surface to dissolve naturally.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while incisions look slightly puckered at 3 months, they flatten beautifully by month 6. Many describe the final results as barely noticeable dots that are easily concealed by swimwear.
