Qualifications

Marek Król is the head of the 1st Department of Cardiology and Angiology at American Heart of Poland in Ustroń. The doctor performs coronary and peripheral angioplasty of the upper and lower extremities, kidneys, and carotid artery.

The doctor conducted research on the effectiveness of coronary stenting in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Based on this scientific data, he received his doctorate in medicine in 2001.

Dr. Krul has mastered the techniques of restoring blood flow in small vessels of the heart in cases of ischemic heart disease. He was the first Polish surgeon to clear plaque from the right coronary artery using a very thin guidewire (a special medical instrument for retrograde interventions). In this way, the surgeon gained access to small blood vessels from the left coronary artery. Thanks to this surgical technique, the doctor can perform operations on patients without the risk of a second heart attack.

In 2012, Marek Król led a team of specialists who performed the first unique operation in Poland: a bioabsorbable stent was installed in a 55-year-old man with unstable angina. This operation allows normalizing blood flow without the need for constant medication (e.g. anticoagulants), as is the case with conventional metal stents. Within 2 years, biostents completely dissolve in the body.
