Prof. Filippini began his career in 1980 and has been teaching at the University of Chieti since the 1990s in the fields of General Surgery, Microsurgery, Reconstructive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopedics, and Gynecology. His primary focus is oncological surgery, particularly specializing in "The surgical treatment of locally advanced tumors and multi-organ resections." He has enriched his expertise by visiting prominent reference centers in the United States, including the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, New York City. There, he delved into minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and microsurgical techniques under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as John Daly, Michele Gagner, and Murray Brennan. Additionally, in 2005, he further expanded his skills at the City of Hope Oncology Center in Los Angeles, focusing on robotic surgery in oncology.

In 1980, Prof. Filippini graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the G. D'Annunzio University of Chieti in Italy with honors, presenting an experimental thesis on lympho-venous anastomosis using microsurgical techniques. He completed his specialization in general surgery at the University of Pisa with distinction after five years. In 1990, he obtained another specialization in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the University of Padua in Italy, where he maintained a stellar academic record.

Prof. Filippini has presented at numerous national and international conferences and authored over 100 scientific publications. Additionally, he has co-authored two monographs. 

Prof. Deraco started his professional career in 1989, as Associated Researcher at the Surgery Dept. and Experimental Oncology Dept. at the Fondazione IRCCS (National Cancer Institute) Milan, Italy, where he then became a part of the surgical team holding more roles: for over 10 years he had been the responsible doctor for Peritoneal Surface Malignancies Program, then, from 2017 he’s the director on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies Unit, and from 2015 he is also a Director of the ESPSO (European School of Peritoneal Surface Oncology). He also works as a Professor of Peritoneal Surface Malignancy, General Surgery, at the Milan University. Prof. Deraco is an expert of Cytoreducyive Surgery (CRS), Hiperthermic Intra Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) and Pressurised Intra Peritoneal Aerosolized Chemotherapy (PIPAC), having treated, with these techniques, more than 1.200 patients with PSM.

Education

In 1987, Prof. Deraco graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Messina, Italy with full marks, where 5 years later she specialized in General Surgery. In 1993 he obtained another specialization, in Oncology, from the Paris Dauphine University, France. In the years 1991-93 he obtained a 3-years research fellow supported by the Research Italian Ministry carried out at the Surgery Dept. at the "Gustave Roussy Institut" Villejuif, France and Surgery Dept. at "The Royal Marsden Hospital" London, UK. Then, in 1996, he spent a Fellowship of AIRC (Italian Association of Cancer Research) carried out at the Surgical Department of "Washington Cancer Institute” at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington DC, USA. 

Research & Publications

Having held important academic positions throughout all the years his career, Prof. Deraco has always been actively engaged in the research, in the field of Peritoneal Surface Malignancy, Oncological Surgery. In 2013 he obtained the Italian National Scientific Habilitation as 1st and 2nd Level Professor of General Surgery. From 2010 to 2015 he taught Peritoneal Surface Malignancy at the Rome University Tor Vergata, School on Surgery of the Digestive Tract, from 2015 he works as a Professor of Peritoneal Surface Malignancy, General Surgery, at the Milan University. He taught Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Treatment Techniques for other several Italian and foreign institutions, where had also been an academic mentor for over 30 postdoctoral fellows from McGill University, Montreal, Canada; National Cancer Institute – ESE, Bogotá, Colombia; University Hospital Reina Sofia, Spain among others. He has published more than 250 indexed scientific articles and 25 book chapters with h-index = 53.

Prof. Deraco was engaged in scientific activity, as the executive member of the board of different scientific societies, such as SITILO (Italian Society for Loco Regional Cancer Therapy); GIM (Italian Mesothelioma Group); PSOGI (Peritoneal Surface Oncology International Group); IART (Italian Association for Rare Tumors); ESSO (European Society of Surgical Oncology) etc. 

Prof. Deraco has been Scientific Director of many events including the PSOGI Consensus Conference in 2006 and Chair of the upcoming XIII PSOGI Congress (Venice October 2023). He is a member of the Steering Committee for the Italian AIOM guidelines and PSOGI guidelines on Peritoneal Surface Malignancies.

As Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator he has conducted multiple international and national research projects, eligible for funding on the basis of competitive calls for peer review. He is currently Principal or Co-Investigator of several research projects on Peritoneal Mesothelioma, Colorectal Cancer, Appendiceal Cancer and Pseudomixoma Peritonei, one of which is international (Accelerator Award).

Dr. Ayman is a Medical Doctor and Surgeon specializing in General and Bariatric Surgery, with extensive training and experience in minimally invasive surgery and obesity management.

Doctor earned his Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Brescia in 2005. He then completed his specialization in General Surgery at the same university in 2016, with a thesis titled "Fast track in minimally invasive colon surgery. He has complete autonomy in the clinical management of complex patients and extensive experience in performing a variety of surgical procedures, including major surgeries. His expertise includes gastric and colorectal surgery, bariatric surgery, abdominal wall surgery, videolaparoscopic (VLC) and laparotomic (VLA) procedures, and proctology. He is particularly skilled in performing medium and major surgeries in emergency settings.

Currently, he practices at Maria Cecilia Hospital in Bologna, where he evaluates the degree of obesity and associated conditions. Based on these assessments, he determines the most suitable surgical intervention, such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and mini laparoscopic bypass.

He has advanced training in colorectal and abdominal wall surgery from top institutions in Italy and Belgium.

He is an active member of the Italian Society of Obesity Surgery and Metabolic Disorders (S.I.C.OB.) and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), contributing to the advancement of bariatric surgery on an international level.

Dr. Ayman is distinguished by his dedication to patient care and his advanced skills in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.

Dr Lechanoine has worked mainly in France and Italy (CHU de Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France; CHRU de Tours, Tours, France; Ospedale Santobono, Naples, Italy; Orleans Hospital, Orleans, France, among others). He started a surgical collaboration in the pediatric field at the General Peltier Hospital in Djibouti (Africa) in 2019 and at the Meyer Children’s Hospital of Florence, Italy in 2023. His fields of interest in brain and spine surgery, both at a surgical and medical level, as well as research and university teaching, are the brainstem, intraventricular neuroendoscopy (hydrocephalus, tumors, etc.), transphenoidal endoscopy, (pituitary adenomas etc.), neurovascular conflict surgeries (MVD or DREZ rizothomy for trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm etc.), neurovascular malformations (aneurysms, cavernomas, AVM...), intracerebral and skull base tumors, pediatric neurosurgery and spine surgery (minimally invasive surgery: UBE Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy for discal herniation, spinal stenosis and foraminotomy; Anterior Cervical Disc Replacement (Prothesis); Fusion: MIS TLIF, ALIF, XLIF, percutaneous, ACDF...).

Education 

In 2012 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University de Caen, France, and specialized at the University of Tours France with Prof. Stéphane Velut and Patrick François, in 2018. His specialization thesis concerns the endoscopic treatment of intracranial arachnoid cysts in children.

Since his graduation he has attended numerous training courses, workshops and international congresses, obtaining French university degrees (in microsurgery, vascular neurosurgery, spine surgery and neuroscience) and, in particular, in 2019 obtaining the Diploma of the European Association of Neurosurgery Societies (EANS) and in 2018 the European Diploma of Spine Surgery (Eurospine). His Neurosurgery specialistic theses related Anatomical microstructure of the Brainstem- (MRI ex vivo Study at very high-field (11,7T) and very high-resolution - 3D APP) and Hydrocephalus and arachnoid cysts, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies and description of endoscopic surgical techniques. 

He spent a period improving his skills in cerebrovascular surgery in the United States (Barrow Neurological Institute, Arizona, USA), in UBE spine endoscopy in Turkey and South Korea (Medicabil Hospital, Bursa, Turkey; Good Moonhwa Hospital, Busan, South Korea).

Research 

The areas of particular interest of Dr. Lechanoine, at the surgical, medical, research and university teaching level, are the brainstem, intraventricular neuroendoscopy (hydrocephalus, tumors, etc.) and transphenoidal (pituitary adenomas), vascular surgery and neurovascular conflicts, intracerebral and skull base tumors, pediatric neurosurgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. 

Dr Lechanoine is a member of the following societies: IFNE (International Federation of NeuroEndoscopy); ESPN (European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery); EANS (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies); SFNC (Société Française de NeuroChirurgie); ISUBE (International Society of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy). He actively participates in international congresses, both as a speaker and member. 

Dr Lechanoine remains also very active in teaching brain and spine endoscopy, by being a permanent tutor at the international ventricular and skull base endoscopy IFNE workshop in Naples, tutor at the French international workshop of spine endoscopy and speaker at the IFNE and Eurospine societies. He recently created an UBE surgical training center in Maria Cecilia Hospital.
