Dr. Amit Kumar is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon and completed his General Surgery residency at the prestigious University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. He then pursued his Vascular Surgery fellowship at the top ranked cardiovascular centre in the United States, The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.
He is American Board of Surgery certified in addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, USA. His clinical interests include mainly endovascular and open treatments of diabetic feet, carotid disease, aortic pathology specifically in dissections and aneurysms involving the thoracic and abdominal aorta as well as venous disease and wound care. In addition, he has a large experience in endovascular treatment of below knee occlusive disease for diabetic feet. Dr. Kumar has performed several firsts in vascular surgery in the middle-east as part of the more than 1,000 vascular/endovascular procedures he has done over the last 4 years. These include, the first successful atherectomy in the middle-east as well the first use of a drug eluting peripheral stent. His research interests pertain to both basic science and clinical aspects. He has recently published the first multicentre vascular study in the Middle East, The ABC in PVD study. Previously he has received a grant for Robotic Surgery which he pursued at East Carolina University, North Carolina, USA.
He is a member of the Residents and Associates Society of the American College of Surgeons, as a part of his interest and commitment to resident education and training. For his efforts he has received the Resident’s Teaching Award while at the University of Rochester. His administrative interests have included invited participation on various committees for the Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA) as well as the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), in addition to being the lead surgeon for deployment of electronic order entry (Cerner) at SKMC. He has previously worked as Assistant Professor – Surgery, Columbia University, New York, but is now running the largest vascular practice across the MENA and Africa region.
