Atypical (marginal) lung resection
Excision of the affected lung tissue without taking into account the localization of blood vessels and the structure of the bronchi.
Advantages: allows you to preserve the healthy part of the organ as much as possible.
Disadvantages: The procedure can cause severe bleeding and organ dysfunction.
Typical lung resection
Excision of the affected part of the organ, taking into account the anatomical features of the lungs. Types of procedure:
- wedge resection - removal of the neoplasm and a small amount of healthy tissue;
- segmentectomy - removal of a segment of the lung;
- lobectomy - removal of a lobe of an organ;
- bilobectomy - resection of the right lung. During the procedure, doctors remove 2 lobes;
- pneumonectomy - complete removal of the lung.
Advantages: the procedure is accompanied by fewer side effects than marginal resection.
Disadvantages: during an atypical resection, the doctor removes more healthy tissue than during a marginal one.
