About the clinic
Breast cancer surgery at Memorial Şişli Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey, typically costs between $11,000 and $20,000. The hospital's main advantage is its status as the first in Turkey to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, ensuring internationally recognized safety and quality standards.
Two primary surgical options are available. Breast-preserving surgery removes the tumor while keeping the natural breast shape. A skin-sparing mastectomy removes all breast tissue but preserves the skin for immediate implant placement. Both procedures include a sentinel lymph node biopsy, which is a standard part of the surgery.
Treatment planning is precise and personalized. It starts with comprehensive diagnostics to determine the tumor's specific subtype. This includes an immunohistochemistry (IHC) test. It analyzes hormone receptor status and other markers critical for planning further therapy. A PET-CT scan helps check if the cancer has spread. Genetic testing is often recommended, especially for younger patients.
Patients have flexibility in their treatment sequence. Surgery can be the first step. Alternatively, patients may receive chemotherapy or targeted therapy before their operation. This approach is tailored to each individual case. The diagnostic package for treatment planning may cost around $1,300. It includes a pathology block review and breast ultrasound. Other tests like PET-CT or genetic panels are priced separately.
Hospital stay is short, usually one to two nights. The first follow-up consultation after discharge is included. As part of the large Memorial Healthcare Group, the hospital serves over 1.6 million patients annually. It also provides full international patient services, including airport transfers and interpreters.
