About the clinic

Hospital de la Familia provides a complete prostate cancer treatment program in Mexicali, Mexico. The facility offers advanced diagnostics and surgeries managed by an experienced urological oncologist. Diagnostics start with a PSA blood test costing around $80, while prostate biopsy is around $2,500–$3,000. Minimally invasive surgery like TURP typically runs from $7,950. Dr. Ismael Avila Iniguez leads the program with 39 years of expertise and over 3,000 procedures performed.

Advanced Prostate Cancer Diagnostics

The clinic provides a full diagnostic pathway to accurately stage prostate cancer. This allows for personalized treatment planning. Key diagnostic options include:

  • PSA blood test: A simple initial screening.
  • Imaging: CT scans for around $500 and MRI of the pelvis for about $750.
  • Prostate biopsy: Tissue sampling for a definitive diagnosis.
  • PET-CT with Gallium-68 (PSMA): A precise scan for detecting cancer spread, costing around $3,850.

Comprehensive Treatment Methods

Treatments are tailored based on the cancer stage and patient health. The clinic offers surgical and biological therapy options.

Minimally Invasive Surgeries

These procedures use small incisions or natural openings. They aim for shorter recovery times. Hospitalization and anesthesia are included in the surgery packages.

  • TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate): This surgery removes obstructive tissue through the urethra. It does not remove the entire prostate. The package includes a 2-3 night hospital stay. It typically costs between $7,950 and $11,500.
  • Laparoscopic Prostatectomy: This technique removes the entire prostate gland. It uses several small incisions and a camera. The cost is around $7,000–$8,650 with a 3-4 night hospitalization.

Biological Therapy

Immunotherapy for prostate cancer is a biological treatment. It helps the patient's own immune system fight cancer cells. The program includes hospitalization, airport transfers, and hotel stay. It may cost between $18,000 and $40,000.

Expert Care and Clinic Features

Dr. Ismael Avila Iniguez is a certified urological surgeon specializing in urology and oncology. He holds membership in the Mexican Society of Urologists and Oncology. The clinic itself is a 32-room boutique hospital with all-private rooms. It is accredited by the Consejo de Salubridad General. Its location near the Calexico border provides easy access for international patients. Hospital de la Familia offers a full spectrum of care for managing prostate cancer.

I like the environment and how everything was set up

I like the environment and how everything was set up. I think you should have more instructions on how to care for yourself. I think you should have a care package while you are there to take care of yourself, too.
The staff was nice
I didn't like that they stuck me 5 times to put a iv in.

The hospital advertised was not the one I went to. The operating room was thrown together i my opinion. Hardly anyone spoke English so I had a difficult time with the forms. I didn't even get a copy. After the surgery I was left on my back overnight night and was told I'll be ok. Once finally discharged the next morning, I only received antibiotics and ibuprofen. No instructions on how and what to do afterwards. I felt like they did what they was supposed to and dropped me off in the streets to fend for myself
How close it was from my home
The facility, language barrier and no instructions

The surgeon was good but the coordinator Carlo made too many mistakes. 1. Didn’t book continuous days at hotel. 2. As a result, I was kicked out of room the day I was in surgery. . 2. Need more after care days to remove drainage. I was abruptly kicked out of TJ while I was still feeling weak. Needed more days in Tijuana. At least 2 more. Return to America and no one wanted to remove drainage tubes. 3. The day nurse talked bad about me to everyone. The night nurse , Paulina was perfect. I would never recommend surgery in Mexico. No need to go viral with this because all of USA know this. Mexican are much better at picking fruits!

Hospital fine, clean decent staff Got gynecomastia surgery, emintha into healing moderately okay results, had maybe grade one maybe grade 2 gyno, got glands removed as I was very lean, Surgeon made long incisions, along my chest, have two ling 3 Inch scars on either side of my nipples on both side of my chest Fland wasn't fully removed on my left side so have recurring gyno, Need steriod injection to help with scaring, surgeon isn't competent enough to go through the nipples to leave no scarring, Pictures they send of before and after are a lie, Probably look worse than before cant take my top off after, The response to this was get laser treatment or steriod injections Sub par save your money go somewhere else Probably the same for most procedures they do

Terrible surgeon. Will not take the time to speak with you, when he does he knows limited English and is very very rushed. The first time me he gave me results that were so drastic I looked like a pig or someone from who-ville. I had to pay for a second surgery for him to give me my old nose but even worse! (Again super rushed, had zero time to make a decision). Absolutely awful experience. Scary. He refused to even try to fix my nose now for another 6 months. Even though I offered to pay again. Have to date and see friends humiliated with a half finished face. Go to someone with talent and who actually cares. He doesn’t. You are just a number to the surgeons there.
