In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents
Thank you very much for providing me with all the necessary assistance and support at every stage: choosing a clinic and doctor, accompanying me upon arrival at the clinic and introducing me to Professor Korillos, providing the necessary translations and detailed explanations of all stages of treatment, and answering all my questions both inside and outside the clinic. In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents.
I appreciated the detailed analysis and explanation of all stages of treatment, the surgery performed, and the follow-up care and recommendations.

The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment
With the organization of medical services, everything went clearly according to the previous plan. Tatyana, the representative of the company, is very communicative, explains everything, no complaints, even came at 7.30 for the procedure, although there was no translation. I made a slight remark, the price for some services was not announced to me , but in fact it was added... These side effects must also be voiced before the trip...... The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment.....

I am writing a review for those people who are in the same difficult situation as our family. Just want to warn, think before you go here. They did not help us ... Moreover, now we understand that they simply did not tell us the truth, promised treatment that everything would be fine and we believed in it, sincerely! They didn’t save on treatment, did everything they recommended, but they just cheerlessly pumped chemistry and prescribed unnecessary consultations like a physiotherapist with charging a hopelessly sick person !!! The company "phoenix" is a soulless creature with the function of receiving money, I don’t even know how to call them anymore ... Doctor Professor Eger also smiled on detours and said that everything would be fine and didn’t even tell the family that the situation was getting worse, she appointed procedures ... As we now understand, everything was clear for a long time, we just wanted to be "treated" because we paid. They tortured our daddy heartlessly and cynically for money !!! Curator Stoyanova stopped responding to letters and the phone immediately, as soon as they informed her that the patient no longer exists. NO ONE! neither she, nor "phoenix", nor the clinic, they even expressed condolences ... It hurts to realize that nothing human is left in people ... We scolded our Russian doctors, and they just told us the truth right away

Not good. The people that I had appointments with did not show up. I met with others who seemed to doubt my records and then claimed that my medical imaging showed no problems whatsoever. I returned home and now seem to have pneumonia in the top of my lungs around the vertebra that are known to have lesions (T1,T2,T3). I consider your service to be a fraud.

My husband and I are very pleased that we made an appointment with Professor Elka Yeager. The examination was carried out on all areas of the body that interest us, and a chemotherapy course was prescribed based on the results of the examination. The first session was held in a hospital clinic. The host company worked very professionally, with great attention to patients. Many thanks to all and best wishes from us!

"I'm very pleased with the treatment
My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

I requested a second opinion for the treatment of prostate cancer for my dad. The cosultation was provided in written by Prof. Dr. med. Sebastian Melchior. He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days. This helped us in understanding better the situation and possible options. However due to the fact that most of the answers were of general rather specific nature, in the end we are still not sure what is the better treatment in our case.

"The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person!" Return: About the Doctor: "We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr
My mother was diagnosed in Russia with a terrible diagnosis - breast cancer stage 4. The doctors' actions were not credible, so we turned to Bookimed for the selection of a clinic and a doctor. We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr. Ursula Makowiec. Mom passed a 3-day examination in the hospital, in a separate ward. Friendly atmosphere, professionalism, respect for the elderly patient - all this allowed us to relax, not to try to control every step of the medical staff, to read the articles on the Internet. I was sure that we made the right choice. And most importantly - the diagnosis was not confirmed! My mother was not breast cancer with metastases, but a sweat cancer in the armpit without any signs of metastases, the prognosis is much more favorable. The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person! We plan to be observed further in this clinic with this doctor. I would also like to thank the translator Marina Wernke. She was not only an excellent professional, but also a very pleasant conversationalist, we were very comfortable with her. I also want to thank the curators who helped a lot all the time while mom was in the clinic.

Everything is clear and reasonable
Immediately I will note not the intrusive and at the same time "essentially" made by Alena presentation of the clinic. And really everything turned out to be as they described to me: the doctor explained how he sees my situation, what kind of opinion of Moscow doctors he agrees with, and what does not and what he proposes to do. Everything is clear and reasonable.

Hello! My dad was diagnosed with a diagnosis in the clinic: adenomatic stomach carcinoma of the 3rd stage. Doctors, nurses and accompanying personnel are qualified professionals, very attentive! All procedures are made as necessary, and not for profit. The only thing that is embarrassing is the menu for people without a stomach. (They gave it hot and fried) Accompanying company takes you from the airport on the day of arrival to the airport on the day of departure. In general, from the time of the first call to today, everyone is happy! I advise everyone here to contact!

FAQ about Trachelectomy (cervicectomy) in Germany

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Who is a suitable candidate for a trachelectomy in German clinics?

Suitable candidates for trachelectomy in German clinics are women under 45 with early-stage cervical cancer seeking fertility preservation. Eligibility requires a tumor size under 2 centimeters, squamous or adenocarcinoma histology, and confirmed cancer-free pelvic lymph nodes through imaging or intraoperative biopsy.

  • Tumor stage: Candidates must be diagnosed with FIGO stages IA1, IA2, or IB1.
  • Fertility status: Patients should have normal ovarian function and no other untreatable infertility causes.
  • Anatomical margin: The tumor must allow a 10–15 mm cancer-free distance from the internal os.
  • Clinic credentials: Procedures are typically performed at German Cancer Society certified centers and university hospitals.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While standard criteria limit this surgery to 2 cm tumors, major German complexes like Charite or Nordrhein-Westfalen utilize neoadjuvant chemotherapy. This advanced strategy can shrink tumors between 2 cm and 4 cm, making more patients eligible for this fertility-sparing approach.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of seeking care at university hospitals to ensure access to comprehensive lymph node mapping. Many find that early consultation regarding fertility goals is vital for qualifying for radical trachelectomy over a total hysterectomy.

What surgical techniques are available for a cervicectomy in Germany?

German hospitals perform cervicectomy using vaginal, abdominal, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted techniques. These fertility-sparing procedures are often conducted at centers certified by the German Cancer Society. Surgeons prioritize uterine artery preservation and nerve-sparing methods to maintain reproductive health and pelvic function.

  • Vaginal approach: Standard for tumors under 2 cm, usually paired with laparoscopic lymphadenectomy.
  • Abdominal technique: Preferred for early-stage tumors up to 4 cm or complex anatomy.
  • Minimal invasive: Laparoscopic and robotic-assisted options reduce blood loss and speed up recovery.
  • Robotic precision: Clinics like Charité Berlin utilize Da Vinci systems for complex oncological dissections.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer trachelectomy, the most experienced German centers like Nordrhein-Westfalen Clinic Complex manage over 145,000 patients annually. High-volume hospitals often provide the neoadjuvant chemotherapy protocols mentioned in research. These programs can down-stage larger tumors to make fertility-sparing surgery a viable option.

Patient Consensus: Patients often emphasize the emotional relief of preserving fertility while receiving radical cancer treatment. They frequently highlight the professional coordination and advanced technology in German university centers.

Under what circumstances will a surgeon abort a trachelectomy and convert to hysterectomy?

Surgeons in Germany abort a trachelectomy and convert to a hysterectomy if intraoperative pathology reveals cancer has spread to the pelvic lymph nodes or if a safe 5 mm tumor-free margin cannot be achieved without compromising the upper uterine cavity.

  • Positive lymph nodes: Surgeons perform sentinel node biopsies; any detected malignancy necessitates an immediate hysterectomy.
  • Inadequate tumor margins: Frozen section pathology showing cancer cells within 5 mm of the edge triggers conversion.
  • Insufficient cervix remnant: If remaining healthy tissue is under 5 mm, it cannot support future pregnancy.
  • Vascular complications: Compromised uterine blood supply or uncontrolled hemorrhage requires conversion to ensure patient safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German centers like the Medical Center in Solingen and Nordwest Clinic prioritize oncological safety over the initial fertility-sparing goal. Data shows approximately 9% to 13% of cases convert intraoperatively. This shift often results from microscopic uterine invasion that imaging didn't detect. Choosing a high-volume center with certified specialists like Dr. Séverine Iborra ensures these life-altering decisions are guided by frozen-section accuracy and extensive robotic experience.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that German oncologists frame potential conversion as a necessary safety choice rather than a surgical failure. They recommend confirming that the surgical consent form explicitly includes hysterectomy as a back-up plan.

Is future pregnancy guaranteed after a trachelectomy?

Future pregnancy after trachelectomy is never guaranteed, though the procedure preserves the uterus for potential conception. Success rates for childbirth typically range from 40% to 70%. Patients require high-risk obstetric monitoring due to increased miscarriage risks and the mandatory requirement for cesarean delivery.

  • Conception rates: Success ranges from 40% to 70% among patients actively attempting pregnancy.
  • Fertility barriers: Structural changes like reduced mucus or scarring may necessitate assisted reproductive technology.
  • Pregnancy management: All pregnancies follow a high-risk protocol requiring a permanent cervical cerclage stitch.
  • Delivery requirements: Natural birth is not possible; all deliveries must be planned cesarean sections.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Nordwest and Solingen offer a distinct advantage by integrating oncology and specialized obstetrics within one facility. Dr. Séverine Iborra at Solingen holds dual certifications in gynecological oncology and perinatal medicine. This specific combination is rare. It ensures the same team managing cancer recovery also understands the complex anatomical needs of a post-trachelectomy pregnancy.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize viewing this surgery as preserving a chance rather than a promise. Most advice focuses on preparing for IVF and the emotional reality of a high-risk pregnancy journey.

How does a pregnancy progress after the cervix is removed?

Pregnancy after trachelectomy is high-risk but manageable through fertility-sparing techniques. A permanent cerclage stitch replaces the mechanical support of the cervix. Specialized monitoring by maternal-fetal medicine experts at German Cancer Society-certified centers helps prevent preterm labor and ascending infections via prophylactic support.

  • Structural support: A permanent cerclage stitch mimics the cervix to hold fetal weight securely.
  • Preterm risks: Preterm delivery rates range between 30% and 45% due to structural absence.
  • Medical monitoring: Bi-weekly ultrasounds from week 12 check uterine stability and cerclage integrity.
  • Delivery method: Elective Cesarean sections are mandatory to avoid life-threatening uterine rupture or lacerations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German university hospitals like Charité Berlin handle over 5,600 deliveries annually, providing the high-volume expertise necessary for post-trachelectomy care. Data suggests that choosing a center with both an oncology department and a specialized perinatal unit ensures the cerclage is placed by surgeons familiar with complex pelvic anatomy.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report feeling physically normal yet must follow strict activity restrictions. They emphasize watching for sudden pelvic pressure or fluid leakage as critical signs that require immediate evaluation by specialists.

What are the long-term recurrence rates for a trachelectomy?

Long-term recurrence rates for radical trachelectomy typically range between 2% and 5%, making it an oncologically safe fertility-sparing option. Data shows a 96% disease-free survival rate over 13 years, though 43% of recurrences appear more than 5 years after the procedure.

  • Overall recurrence: Clinical studies report a low average recurrence rate of approximately 3.4%.
  • Survival rates: Long-term overall survival is excellent, currently reaching approximately 98% for patients.
  • Tumor size impact: Tumors exceeding 2cm significantly increase recurrence risk to roughly 20%.
  • Late recurrence: Monitoring must continue for 10 years as recurrences occur up to 9 years post-op.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German oncology centers like Nordwest Clinic and Nordrhein-Westfalen Clinic Complex emphasize volume-based safety. These facilities treat up to 145,000 patients annually and hold German Cancer Society certifications. This high patient volume often correlates with stricter adherence to the 2cm tumor limit, which is the primary factor in maintaining those low recurrence percentages.

Patient Consensus: While patients feel reassured by clear surgical margins, many report persistent anxiety during the mandatory long-term surveillance. The emotional burden of continuous Pap and HPV testing remains a significant reality for years after the initial surgery.

Where are the primary medical hubs for this procedure in Germany?

Primary medical hubs for trachelectomy in Germany center on Berlin, Frankfurt, and the North Rhine-Westphalia region, specifically within university hospitals and certified oncology centers. Cities like Solingen and Duisburg host specialized clinics with German Cancer Society accreditation, ensuring high-volume expertise for gynecological oncology cases.

  • Berlin hub: Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin hosts Europes largest university clinic with specialized oncology research.
  • Frankfurt hub: Nordwest Clinic serves 61,000 patients annually using advanced 3D ultrasound and oncology.
  • Solingen hub: Medical Center Solingen features academic specialists certified in cervical pathology and colposcopy.
  • Duisburg hub: Nordrhein-Westfalen Clinic Complex provides robotic surgery options within a certified cancer center.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Berlin and Frankfurt are traditional centers, the North Rhine-Westphalia cluster offers exceptional value. Clinics like Medical Center Solingen maintain a high volume of over 60,000 patients annually. They often provide more personalized access to chief physicians like Dr. Séverine Iborra, who holds specific certifications in cervical pathology.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize choosing gynecologic oncology departments over general units. Many recommend traveling to high-volume academic centers to ensure the surgical team includes specialized fertility counseling and multidisciplinary pathology support.
