The Department of Sheba is the top center in Israel for treatment of cancer in children. It includes Pediatric Oncology Outpatient Clinic, Day Care Unit and Inpatient Ward. Annually 120 new little patients get treatment at Sheba. The Center accepts newborn children and young adults (till the age of 30) who are diagnosed with tumors typical for kids.
Professor Benjamin Dekel is an internationally renowned doctor heading the Pediatric Stem Cell Research Institute and the Division of Pediatric Nephrology at the Sheba Medical Center. He has a Bachelor's degree in Medical Sciences and MD from the Technion, a Doctorate (Ph.D.) from the Weizmann Institute of Science, and has completed multiple residencies, fellowships and post-doctoral fellowships. He has pioneered the identification of stem/progenitor cells for tissue repair and regeneration, and has published over 110 publications in leading medical journals. He is an elected member of the Society of Pediatric Research and the American Society of Clinical Investigation and has won multiple awards.
