Myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Myomectomy in Mexico typically costs $3,500–$5,560 compared to over $10,000 in the US, offering savings of up to 65%. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (2–4%) and bleeding, similar to rates in the US. These can be minimized by choosing accredited clinics.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Gynecology and Obstetrics, often with US or European training and 10+ years’ experience. Follow-up care. Postoperative follow-up may be more complex from abroad, but clinics often provide telemedicine consultations and detailed discharge plans.
Modern facilities. Procedures are performed in JCI- and ISO-accredited hospitals using laparoscopic equipment from leading brands like Olympus and Stryker. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS oversees Mexican clinics, which may differ from FDA standards. However, top hospitals align with international safety protocols and are regularly audited.
Advanced laparoscopic techniques. Minimally invasive surgery leads to faster recovery, less pain, and lower complication rates compared to open surgery. Travel logistics. Recovery abroad may require extra planning for accommodation and transportation, but major hubs like Tijuana offer convenient access and support services.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified specialists in accredited facilities, myomectomy in Mexico can offer safe and effective care for international patients.

The medical team was great
The medical team was great, the hospital was top notch. Dr. Pliego was available online throughout the entire process (both pre and post surgery) and the surgery went smoothly.
Even though Dr. Pliego was in another surgery when I was released from the hospital, I appreciated the hospital was able to provide my prescription for both antibiotics and pain medicine so I was able to leave and recover in our Air BnB s I was ready to leave the hospital.
I signed a lot of paperwork that wasn't in english.
About Bookimed service
I appreciated the prompt responses to questions both medical and travel related throughout the entire process.
