  • Clinics accredited by JCI or affiliated with ASPS may charge 15%–20% more.
  • Procedures performed in major cities like Cancun or Mexico City can cost up to 30% more due to medical tourism demand.
  • Liposuction of three body areas can increase the total price by 30%–45% compared to single-area treatment.
  • Advanced liposuction techniques like VASER or laser-assisted lipo can add 20%–30% to costs due to specialized equipment.

Liposuction for 3 body areas in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Liposuction for 3 body areas in Mexico typically costs $3,500–$5,000, compared to $10,000+ in the US, providing up to 65% savings. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection rates of 3–5% and contour irregularities. These risks are comparable to those in the US when performed by qualified surgeons.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER), many with 10–30 years of experience and thousands of procedures performed. Some have US or European training. Follow-up care. Managing post-op care from abroad can be challenging. Some clinics offer telemedicine and structured recovery plans to support international patients.
Modern facilities. Clinics in Tijuana, Cancun, and Guadalajara use advanced equipment (e.g., Stryker, Medtronic) and are often JCI- or ISO-accredited, with COFEPRIS oversight. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA, but top clinics align with international protocols and maintain safety levels similar to US facilities.
Comprehensive packages. Many clinics include pre-op tests, anesthesia, hospital fees, transport, and post-op meds, simplifying logistics for patients. Travel and recovery logistics. A one-week local recovery stay is often required. Travel may affect comfort and increase logistical complexity.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. Patients who carefully research and choose reputable providers in Mexico can access quality care at considerably lower prices.

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.
