Pros Cons
Lower costs. Laparoscopic endometriosis surgery costs $5,900–$6,400 in Mexico versus $10,000+ in the US, offering up to 40% savings. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection rates of 1–3%, anesthesia complications, or organ injury. These risks are similar to those in the US when performed by qualified surgeons.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER) or equivalent, often with US or European training and 10+ years’ experience. Follow-up care. Post-surgery follow-up may be harder from abroad. Some clinics offer telemedicine and local coordination to support recovery.
Modern facilities. Accredited hospitals in Tijuana, Mexicali, and Cancun use FDA-approved laparoscopic equipment and meet JCI or ISO standards. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA, but leading clinics follow international protocols and are regularly audited for safety.
Comprehensive packages. Packages often include pre-op tests, anesthesia, hospital stay, take-home meds, and transportation, reducing out-of-pocket surprises. Travel-related risks. Potential risks include travel fatigue or delays in emergency care. These can be minimized by planning for a sufficient recovery period in Mexico and using a reputable clinic.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified providers, laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis in Mexico can offer safe, effective outcomes and substantial savings.

The medical team was great
The medical team was great, the hospital was top notch. Dr. Pliego was available online throughout the entire process (both pre and post surgery) and the surgery went smoothly.
Even though Dr. Pliego was in another surgery when I was released from the hospital, I appreciated the hospital was able to provide my prescription for both antibiotics and pain medicine so I was able to leave and recover in our Air BnB s I was ready to leave the hospital.
I signed a lot of paperwork that wasn't in english.
About Bookimed service
I appreciated the prompt responses to questions both medical and travel related throughout the entire process.
