Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. The procedure costs $2,500–$4,500 in Mexico versus $7,000–$10,000 in the US, offering savings of up to 60%. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection rates of 1–3%, bleeding, or anesthesia reactions—similar to US rates when performed by qualified surgeons.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Gynecology or international boards, with many trained in US or European residency and fellowship programs. Follow-up care. Staying in Mexico for 10–15 days is often required for proper recovery and follow-up. Coordinating post-op care at home can be challenging.
Modern facilities. Accredited hospitals in Mexico City, Tijuana, and Guadalajara use equipment from leading brands and meet ISO and local health ministry standards. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards may differ from the FDA, but top clinics meet international benchmarks and follow FDA-aligned protocols.
Minimally invasive recovery. Laparoscopic technique offers less scarring and faster recovery—hospital stay is usually 2–3 days, with most patients resuming normal activities within 2 weeks. Travel logistics. Patients should budget for travel and accommodation and consider the impact of regional price variations and exchange rates.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified specialists in reputable facilities, laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy in Mexico can offer safe, effective, and affordable care.

The medical team was great
The medical team was great, the hospital was top notch. Dr. Pliego was available online throughout the entire process (both pre and post surgery) and the surgery went smoothly.
Even though Dr. Pliego was in another surgery when I was released from the hospital, I appreciated the hospital was able to provide my prescription for both antibiotics and pain medicine so I was able to leave and recover in our Air BnB s I was ready to leave the hospital.
I signed a lot of paperwork that wasn't in english.
About Bookimed service
I appreciated the prompt responses to questions both medical and travel related throughout the entire process.
