Abdominal Liposuction in Mexico: Pros and Cons

Abdominal liposuction in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Abdominal liposuction in Mexico costs $1,500–$4,350, compared to $6,000–$12,000 in the US, offering 45–75% savings. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (2–5%) and contour irregularities. These risks are similar to those in the US and can be minimized by choosing accredited clinics.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER), with 15–33 years of experience and 7,000+ procedures performed. Many trained in US or European programs. Follow-up care. Post-operative visits may be challenging for international patients, but clinics offer remote follow-up and support via telemedicine.
Modern facilities. Clinics in Tijuana and Mexicali use equipment from leading brands and meet JCI, ISO, and COFEPRIS standards. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA. However, top clinics follow international protocols and undergo regular audits.
Comprehensive packages. Prices include pre-op tests, anesthesia, hospital fees, post-op meds, and local transportation, simplifying logistics for patients. Travel recovery risks. Traveling soon after surgery may increase risk of blood clots or discomfort, but clinics provide detailed recovery guidance and transportation services.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. Abdominal liposuction in Mexico can be a cost-effective option when performed by qualified providers in accredited facilities.

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.
