I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing so far and anticipate being even happier as the swelling goes down and my new figure fully reveals itself
Dr Ana was very sweet and helpful as was her daughter Louise. Despite the language barrier they were able to communicate to me what the procedure was going to be in terms of medical tests on surgery day. The anesthetist was wonderful and easy to communicate with. The nurses who tended to me post procedure were very kind, but there was definitely a language barrier. I had hoped to be able to use my phones translator, but did not anticipate how difficult it would be for me to move after the procedure often times I would not be able to reach my phone. Once I arrived there, there were some nominal unanticipated additional costs that I was not made aware of. Specifically, $200 a night to sleep another night in the clinic when I was too swollen and sore to move and wasn't going to be able to get on a plane just yet. I stayed in a nice hotel the night before the procedure and paid only $77 for that accommodation. It would be different if they had been bringing me juice and water frequently or otherwise caring for me, but I often found myself dehydrated and lacking cold water. I appreciate that they brought me food, but all of the food that they brought me was so dry that I could not eat it because my mouth was already so dry. They were very sweet to go and get me and ice cream when I asked for a popsicle. Otherwise you got whatever they gave you, whenever they decided to give it to you. The rest of the time I was just left alone in my room, which was fine because I really was not able to move. There are times and it would have been helpful to have someone nearby to hand me lip balm from my bag, but generally I was left by myself. I am 2 weeks out from my procedure so I'm still very swollen, St iff and sore, but I can tell that the surgeon did an excellent job with my procedure. I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing so far and anticipate being even happier as the swelling goes down and my new figure fully reveals itself. This is not the same kind of experience as having cosmetic surgery in the states. There's very little consultation/ pre-op care other than the scheduling. The Aftercare is almost non-existent. I was prepared for that and so I had real significant complaints outside of the lack of pain management offered post procedure.
About Bookimed service
The interface is very easy to use and I was able to get quotes quickly, choose a clinic and book my procedure within a few weeks. I had a very specific time frame that I had already purchased airfare to San Diego for, and the clinic was very accommodating.

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.

FAQ about Face Liposuction in Mexico

What kind of support system should I have in place both in Mexico and at home post-surgery?

In Mexico, having a companion can assist with immediate post-operative care and communication with medical staff. At home, arrange for someone to help with daily activities during your recovery period. Establishing regular check-ins with your surgeon via virtual consultations ensures ongoing professional support.

Is it safe to travel back home immediately after the procedure, or should I plan to stay longer in Mexico?

It's generally recommended to stay in Mexico for at least a few days post-surgery to ensure initial recovery is smooth and any immediate complications can be addressed. Consult with your surgeon about specific timelines based on your procedure's complexity and personal health status before booking return travel.

What are the emotional impacts of undergoing cosmetic surgery abroad, and how can I prepare for them?

Undergoing cosmetic surgery abroad can be emotionally taxing due to being away from familiar support systems. Prepare by researching thoroughly, setting realistic expectations, and maintaining open communication with your surgeon. Having a trusted companion accompany you can also provide emotional support.

How do I handle any potential complications or emergencies while still in Mexico after the procedure?

Before traveling, ensure you understand the clinic's emergency protocols and have contact information readily available. Most reputable clinics have 24/7 support for post-operative concerns. Consider purchasing travel insurance that covers medical emergencies abroad for added security.

What is the expected recovery time after undergoing face liposuction, and how will it affect my daily activities?

Recovery from face liposuction generally takes about 1 to 2 weeks, with most swelling subsiding within this period. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities during this time but can usually resume light daily tasks after a few days. Following post-operative instructions is essential for optimal healing.

How will I manage post-operative care and follow-up appointments once I return home?

Your surgeon will typically provide a detailed care plan that includes managing swelling and avoiding strenuous activities. Many clinics offer virtual follow-up consultations via video calls to monitor your recovery progress after returning home. Ensure you have access to a local healthcare provider for any urgent care needs.

Are there any hidden costs or additional fees I should be aware of when planning for face liposuction in Mexico?

While many packages include accommodation at a 4-star hotel, be aware that transfers are often not included. Ask for a detailed breakdown of costs from the clinic to avoid surprises. Budget for additional expenses such as medications, follow-up appointments, and personal travel needs.

What are the travel arrangements I need to consider for my surgery in Mexico?

Plan your travel to include adequate time for pre-surgery consultations and post-operative recovery. Consider booking accommodations close to the clinic; some packages offer a 4-star hotel stay. Ensure you have a valid passport and any necessary visas well ahead of your trip.

Will there be a language barrier when communicating with medical staff in Mexico?

Many medical staff in Mexico's cosmetic surgery clinics speak English fluently, especially those catering to international patients. It's advisable to confirm language proficiency during your initial consultations. Some clinics also provide translation services if needed.

What should I know about the safety standards and regulations for cosmetic surgery in Mexico?

Mexico has stringent regulations for cosmetic surgery, with many clinics accredited by international bodies like ISAPS. Ensure that the clinic you choose adheres to these standards and is equipped with modern facilities. Researching the clinic's accreditation can provide peace of mind regarding safety protocols.

How can I ensure the surgeon performing my procedure is qualified and experienced?

Verify that your surgeon is certified by reputable organizations such as the ISAPS or the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. Check their credentials, years of experience, and patient reviews. It's also beneficial to request before-and-after photos of previous patients.

What are the potential risks and complications of having face liposuction in Mexico?

Face liposuction, like any surgical procedure, carries risks such as infection, bleeding, asymmetry, and nerve damage. In Mexico, it's crucial to choose a board-certified surgeon to minimize these risks. Post-operative care and following your surgeon's instructions can significantly reduce the likelihood of complications.
