"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Da Vinci gastroectomy in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the primary benefits of da Vinci gastrectomy compared to traditional surgery?

think whitening robot gastrectomy benefits korea...

The primary benefits of da Vinci gastrectomy include significantly reduced blood loss, fewer post-operative complications

The primary benefits of da Vinci gastrectomy include significantly reduced blood loss, fewer post-operative complications, and shorter hospital stays. This robotic approach uses 3D high-definition visualization and wristed instruments to perform precise D2 lymphadenectomy with minimal tissue trauma and faster return to bowel function.

  • Blood loss: Patients experience 50-200ml loss compared to 500ml in traditional open surgery.
  • Hospital stay: Recovery typically requires 4-7 days versus 14 days for open procedures.
  • Surgical precision: 3D magnification provides a detailed view of vessels invisible to the naked eye.
  • Functional recovery: Most patients transition to solid foods by the second week after surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea leads in robotic volume with centers like Severance Hospital and Asan Medical Center treating over 2,500 inpatients daily. This massive scale allows Korean surgeons to surpass the 100-case annual threshold faster than Western peers. High-volume expertise directly correlates with lower risks of pancreatic fistulas and more thorough lymph node clearance.

Patient Consensus: Patients report manageable pain typically ending by day 3 and tiny 1cm incisions that leave minimal scarring after 6 months. Many value walking on the same day as surgery and returning to work within 3 weeks.

Are there any disadvantages or risks of da Vinci gastrectomy?

Da Vinci gastrectomy risks include higher procedural costs, longer operative times, and a steep surgeon learning curve. Specific robotic complications involve rare device malfunctions, loss of haptic feedback, and positioning injuries like nerve damage. Standard gastrectomy risks, such as anastomotic leaks or dumping syndrome, also remain possible.

  • Financial investment: Procedures in South Korea cost $18,500 to $31,500, significantly higher than laparoscopy.
  • Surgery duration: Robotic setup and docking often add 60 minutes to total anesthesia time.
  • Technical risks: Rare mechanical failures or console glitches may force conversion to open surgery.
  • Tactile limitations: Lack of haptic feedback requires surgeons to rely solely on high-definition visual cues.
  • Post-operative issues: Potential for internal burns from electrical currents or long-term vitamin B-12 deficiency.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea leads in robotic volume, with Asan Medical Center serving 11,800 outpatients daily. Data shows top Seoul clinics maintain lower complication rates by requiring surgeons to exceed 100 robotic cases. Choosing a high-volume center like Severance Hospital helps mitigate the risks associated with the robotic learning curve.

Patient Consensus: Patients often worry about high out-of-pocket costs compared to standard laparoscopy. Many recommend verifying the surgeon's specific robotic case volume and confirming English-speaking coordination to manage post-operative recovery safely.

What is the typical recovery timeline after da Vinci gastrectomy?

Recovery after a da Vinci robotic gastrectomy in South Korea typically involves a 3 to 7-day hospital stay with most patients returning to basic daily activities within 4 to 6 weeks. While robotic techniques allow for smaller incisions, full internal healing and dietary adaptation generally require 6 to 12 months.

  • Hospital stay: Expect discharge within 3 to 7 days at Seoul centers like Asan.
  • Early mobility: Walking is encouraged within 24 hours to prevent clots and improve circulation.
  • Pain management: Most patients transition from prescription narcotics to over-the-counter relievers by day 3.
  • Dietary progression: Soft food introduction starts around weeks 2 to 4 after surgery.
  • Work return: Most patients resume professional duties or light exercise within 2 to 3 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from major Seoul hubs like Severance Hospital shows high precision with robotic systems, but fatigue often outlasts surgical pain. While patients feel physically healed by week 4, the metabolic shift often requires a planned 2-month career break to manage energy levels effectively.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently report severe fatigue and nutritional hurdles like B12 deficiencies in the first quarter. Many recommend stocking protein powders and iron supplements before arriving in Korea to support the early recovery phase.

Which hospitals in Korea are leading centers for robotic gastrectomy?

South Korea dominates robotic gastrectomy through high-volume centers like Severance Hospital, Samsung Medical Center, and Asan Medical Center. These institutions utilize the Da Vinci Surgical System to perform minimally invasive gastric cancer surgeries, achieving 5-year survival rates exceeding 90% due to advanced techniques and early detection.

  • Severance Hospital: Global pioneer with the world's highest robotic gastric cancer case volume.
  • Samsung Medical Center: Ranks 2nd worldwide for gastrectomies, utilizing 9 Da Vinci robotic systems.
  • Asan Medical Center: South Korea's largest facility, performing 65,599 annual operations with high success.
  • SNU Bundang Hospital: Korea's first digital hospital using AI and robotics for surgical precision.
  • Ewha Womans University: Specializes in aesthetic outcomes and minimally invasive techniques for female patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek the Big 5 for prestige, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) offers a unique edge through its BESTcare digital system. This infrastructure significantly reduces medical errors compared to traditional paper-based clinics. Our data shows it manages 1,500,000 patients annually with a heavy focus on oncology and abdominal robotic surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients report quicker recovery times but emphasize the need to confirm a surgeon's specific robotic volume. Many recommend budgeting for a 2-4 week stay to manage diet adjustments like dumping syndrome during initial follow-ups.

Is robotic-assisted gastrectomy widely adopted in South Korea?

Robotic-assisted gastrectomy is a recognized clinical standard in South Korea, though it currently supplements rather than replaces laparoscopic surgery. High-volume centers in Seoul lead global adoption, utilizing Da Vinci systems for complex D2 lymph node dissections in both early and advanced gastric cancer cases.

  • Adoption rate: Robotic procedures account for 7–9% of all stomach surgeries nationwide.
  • Leading institutions: Major centers include Severance Hospital and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
  • Technological focus: Surgeons utilize 3D high-definition views and wristed instruments for precision.
  • Innovation trends: Research now focuses on even less invasive single-port robotic gastrectomy techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While South Korea is a global leader, robotic expertise remains highly concentrated. Data shows top-tier surgeons at centers like Asan Medical Center handle massive volumes, with over 65,000 annual operations. This concentration creates 2–4 month wait times for the most experienced robotic specialists in Seoul.

Patient Consensus: Patients often travel to Seoul specifically for robotic options, viewing the technology as a sign of superior care. Many prioritize surgeons who have completed at least 50–100 successful robotic cases to ensure safety.
