Cone Beam CT Scan in Dr. Fernando Giovanella Clinic
About the clinic
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) provides a three-dimensional view of the jawbone, tooth inclination, and nerve pathways. Patients can access this diagnostic at Dr. Fernando Giovanella Clinic in Blumenau, Brazil. The main advantage of this examination is the creation of a 3D-printed bone replica for precise surgical planning.
Diagnostic capabilities and technology
The CBCT scan detects critical anatomical details that standard X-rays often miss. It shows the exact shape of roots and the distance between teeth and nerves. The clinic uses digital tools to support the examination process and improve accuracy.
- 3D imaging. Uses cone beam computed tomography for detailed jaw mapping.
- Digital reconstruction. CBCT data creates a 3D digital model of the patient’s anatomy.
- Bone replica. The clinic produces a 3D-printed model for surgical simulation.
- Intraoral scanning. Captures digital diagnostic models using Cerec Omnicam.
- Imaging suite. Includes panoramic and periapical X-rays for a complete dental assessment.

Dr. Fernando Giovanella Clinic: more details about the clinic
What the clinic treats
Full-arch rehabilitation of the upper and lower jaw for patients who were told they do not have enough bone for implants, or whose bone grafts or implants failed. Depending on the CT scan, the implants are anchored in the front of the jaw (All-on-4 or All-on-6), in the cheekbone (zygomatic implants) or in the pterygoid region, in many cases without bone grafting. Dr. Giovanella chooses the technique after reviewing the patient's CT scan.

How a case is planned
Planning starts with the patient's CT scan (DICOM). The surgery is planned in 3D and transferred to the mouth with a custom surgical guide (SkinGuide®). Zygomatic cases are first rehearsed on a 3D-printed replica of the patient's bone. The patient receives the treatment plan and the price in writing before booking flights.
Anesthesia and where surgery takes place
Most surgeries are performed at the clinic under intravenous sedation given by a physician anesthesiologist, after a pre-anesthetic assessment. Selected cases are performed under general anesthesia at Hospital Unimed Blumenau, a JCI-accredited hospital.
Prosthesis options
Resin (included in the base price): a definitive fixed bridge of 12 teeth is placed 3–5 days after surgery, in one trip, with a check-up and reline at 3–4 months. Zirconia (optional upgrade): a 3D-printed fixed provisional bridge is placed within 3–5 days, and the zirconia bridge is fitted on a second one-week trip after 3 months.
Registration and languages
The clinic is registered with the Santa Catarina Regional Dental Council (EPAO 1586). Care is provided in English and Portuguese.
