University Hospital Aachen: more details about the clinic

Germany, Aachen

University Hospital Aachen is located not far from the center but outside the city and adjoins a small pedestrian zone and a science park. The science park and the hospital are facilities of the medical faculty of Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. In the building standing out because of its architectural features new external ventilation system preventing infections is installed. Professionals who care about patients’ access to fresh air, possibilities to walk and enjoy the landscapes created these conditions in order to facilitate quick recovery and effective rehabilitation.

The infrastructure of the hospital contributes to European quality standards of services. This is provided by:

  • 36 specialized clinics, 21 institutes;
  • 30 operation units;
  • Outpatient operating room;
  • 59 professors, 824 research fellows, more than 4000 thousand supporting specialists;
  • access for 1510 inpatients (wards for one or two patients with TV and Internet; patients  can order individual menus and individual preferences in diets like vegetarian dishes or dishes without pork will be satisfied);

Guest house with single, double and dormitory rooms. A shower, a terrace and a kitchenette are available.

  • 47 000 inpatients every year;
  • 210000 outpatients every year;

Many patients who have visited University Hospital Aachen happily call this hospital a real medical town. Specialized centers are ready to help people with any medical problem at any stage. A regular blood test or a comprehensive body examination which other hospitals fail to provide can be completed here. High standards of preliminary diagnostics are proven just by the fact that an institute for nuclear medicine, radiology department and neurosurgery clinic are parts of University Hospital Aachen. A sophisticated navigation system for surgeries in difficult-to-reach areas is successfully used in the neurosurgery clinic. It is extremely popular with the patients who suffer from late stage neurosurgical diseases. The same system can be used for the spine or adenoma. Radiological surgery is performed with a cyberknife which is not very often used in European hospitals.

University Hospital Aachen includes the following specialized divisions:

  • invasive and intensive cardiology
  • several research units specializing in airway disorders
  • cardiovascular surgery
  • orthopedic unit
  • urology clinic
  • radiotherapy clinic
  • neurosurgery clinic
  • neurology department

In addition to doctors and research fellows, about 50 masseurs and physiotherapists work at the hospital. A therapy plan is designed for inpatients at the stage of admission when tests, course of medical treatment and diet are administered. The therapy plan includes physical exercises outdoors, massage or additional physiotherapy in case of serious internal diseases or bone disorders. This contributes to general recovery, immunity boosting and quick rehabilitation.

Es werden Immunschwache Patienten genötigt FFP3 Masken auszuziehen damit andere Patienten keine Panik bekommen? Bei weigerung wird man rausgeworfen? Was genau seid ihr für ein Saftladen?

I had a terrible experience at Uniklinik's emergency ward. I went there with severe body pain, headache and fluctuating fever. Before going to the hospital, I tried self-meditation to manage the pain, which may have temporarily normalized my temperature. When the receptionist checked my temperature and saw it was normal, she dismissed my condition as non-emergency. She even looked at my face and said it didn’t look like an emergency. Do I need to act out pain on my face to convince the staff that I need care? To make matters worse, the way some of the staff communicated was incredibly arrogant and dismissive. I went to the hospital because my house doctor’s clinic was closed for a week and wouldn’t reopen until January 6th. After waiting for hours without any help, I left and had to resort to self-meditation again at home because there was no one else to help. What kind of medical system forces people into such situations? Nobody likes going to a hospital—this is not an amusement park. The system here seems useless and makes people’s lives more difficult. This is the worst emergency ward I’ve ever encountered, and I will never go to this hospital again in my life. If there were an option to give zero star that's what I would give.

I came to uniklinik when i was very sick. I had fever and couldn’t even stand. The staff doesn’t care and most of them are very rude. They don’t give you any information and keep you waiting for hours. I was with my boyfriend, we were both sick and i was the one who infected him. They gave him a serum but only him and not me and i wasn’t given any treatment. I’ll better stay home next time when i am sick

First visit the parking was full and i had to wait for 2h for my appointment... not good.My wife gave birth there. Most of the staff was very friendly and competent. They reacted quickly when the baby needed support and was transported to the special department.Unfortunately the lack of staff ternished our experience terribly. Some shifts were very bad with unfriendly staff. We left the hospital very early because of this. In the end the baby and the mum are healthy, all what matters

Really good for emergency cases. For casual doctor consultation it can take longer than normal. Cafeteria, Geldautomat and Payphone Service available.

I had to go to the emergency dentist on a Sunday. I had to wait 1.5 hours to be seen. The dentist on duty and the assistants took super good care of me, they all spoke English and took their time. I was very relieved as I had read very bad reviews about Uniklinik. In my case everything was excellent and I recommend it.
