In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents
Thank you very much for providing me with all the necessary assistance and support at every stage: choosing a clinic and doctor, accompanying me upon arrival at the clinic and introducing me to Professor Korillos, providing the necessary translations and detailed explanations of all stages of treatment, and answering all my questions both inside and outside the clinic. In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents.

The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment
With the organization of medical services, everything went clearly according to the previous plan. Tatyana, the representative of the company, is very communicative, explains everything, no complaints, even came at 7.30 for the procedure, although there was no translation. I made a slight remark, the price for some services was not announced to me , but in fact it was added... These side effects must also be voiced before the trip...... The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment.....

I am writing a review for those people who are in the same difficult situation as our family. Just want to warn, think before you go here. They did not help us ... Moreover, now we understand that they simply did not tell us the truth, promised treatment that everything would be fine and we believed in it, sincerely! They didn’t save on treatment, did everything they recommended, but they just cheerlessly pumped chemistry and prescribed unnecessary consultations like a physiotherapist with charging a hopelessly sick person !!! The company "phoenix" is a soulless creature with the function of receiving money, I don’t even know how to call them anymore ... Doctor Professor Eger also smiled on detours and said that everything would be fine and didn’t even tell the family that the situation was getting worse, she appointed procedures ... As we now understand, everything was clear for a long time, we just wanted to be "treated" because we paid. They tortured our daddy heartlessly and cynically for money !!! Curator Stoyanova stopped responding to letters and the phone immediately, as soon as they informed her that the patient no longer exists. NO ONE! neither she, nor "phoenix", nor the clinic, they even expressed condolences ... It hurts to realize that nothing human is left in people ... We scolded our Russian doctors, and they just told us the truth right away

Not good. The people that I had appointments with did not show up. I met with others who seemed to doubt my records and then claimed that my medical imaging showed no problems whatsoever. I returned home and now seem to have pneumonia in the top of my lungs around the vertebra that are known to have lesions (T1,T2,T3). I consider your service to be a fraud.

My husband and I are very pleased that we made an appointment with Professor Elka Yeager. The examination was carried out on all areas of the body that interest us, and a chemotherapy course was prescribed based on the results of the examination. The first session was held in a hospital clinic. The host company worked very professionally, with great attention to patients. Many thanks to all and best wishes from us!

"I'm very pleased with the treatment
My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days
I requested a second opinion for the treatment of prostate cancer for my dad. The cosultation was provided in written by Prof. Dr. med. Sebastian Melchior. He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days. This helped us in understanding better the situation and possible options. However due to the fact that most of the answers were of general rather specific nature, in the end we are still not sure what is the better treatment in our case.

"The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person!" Return: About the Doctor: "We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr
My mother was diagnosed in Russia with a terrible diagnosis - breast cancer stage 4. The doctors' actions were not credible, so we turned to Bookimed for the selection of a clinic and a doctor. We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr. Ursula Makowiec. Mom passed a 3-day examination in the hospital, in a separate ward. Friendly atmosphere, professionalism, respect for the elderly patient - all this allowed us to relax, not to try to control every step of the medical staff, to read the articles on the Internet. I was sure that we made the right choice. And most importantly - the diagnosis was not confirmed! My mother was not breast cancer with metastases, but a sweat cancer in the armpit without any signs of metastases, the prognosis is much more favorable. The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person! We plan to be observed further in this clinic with this doctor. I would also like to thank the translator Marina Wernke. She was not only an excellent professional, but also a very pleasant conversationalist, we were very comfortable with her. I also want to thank the curators who helped a lot all the time while mom was in the clinic.

Everything is clear and reasonable
Immediately I will note not the intrusive and at the same time "essentially" made by Alena presentation of the clinic. And really everything turned out to be as they described to me: the doctor explained how he sees my situation, what kind of opinion of Moscow doctors he agrees with, and what does not and what he proposes to do. Everything is clear and reasonable.

"I advise everyone here to contact!"
Hello! My dad was diagnosed with a diagnosis in the clinic: adenomatic stomach carcinoma of the 3rd stage. Doctors, nurses and accompanying personnel are qualified professionals, very attentive! All procedures are made as necessary, and not for profit. The only thing that is embarrassing is the menu for people without a stomach. (They gave it hot and fried) Accompanying company takes you from the airport on the day of arrival to the airport on the day of departure. In general, from the time of the first call to today, everyone is happy! I advise everyone here to contact!

FAQ about Small intestine resection in Germany

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the overall success rate of small intestine resection in Germany?

Small intestine resection in Germany maintains a high success rate between 85% and 90%. Specialized visceral surgery centers leverage laparoscopic and robotic technologies to achieve high precision. Outcomes depend heavily on the underlying condition and whether the admission is elective or an emergency.

  • Planned surgeries: Elective procedures demonstrate survival rates between 82% and 99.1%.
  • Success by age: Pediatric and young patients achieve the highest success rates up to 95%.
  • Condition impact: Procedures for benign conditions like diverticulitis report success rates reaching 95%.
  • Technology utilized: Advanced clinics employ the Da Vinci robotic system to minimize complication risks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Quality signals in Germany often correlate with certifications from the German Cancer Society. Clinics like the Medical Center in Solingen hold these specialized credentials. This focus on multidisciplinary cancer care ensures better outcomes for complex oncological resections.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the thoroughness of German surgeons during pre-operative planning and recovery. They frequently highlight the professional atmosphere and clarity provided regarding post-operative dietary changes.

What are the long-term complications or risks after small intestine resection?

The primary long-term risks after small intestine resection include chronic malabsorption, nutritional deficiencies, and short bowel syndrome (SBS). Patients often face mechanical issues like intestinal obstructions caused by internal scar tissue or strictures at the surgical site years after the procedure.

  • Nutritional deficiency: Malabsorption leads to anemia and bone loss from low vitamin D.
  • Ileum complications: Removing the terminal ileum causes permanent vitamin B12 and bile acid depletion.
  • Mechanical obstruction: Internal adhesions can kink the bowel, causing severe pain and blockages.
  • Metabolic shifts: Altered digestion increases risk for kidney stones and gallbladder issues over time.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Medical Center in Solingen and Nordwest Clinic handle over 60,000 patients annually, offering deep expertise in complex visceral surgery. Data suggests that patients choosing certified German Cancer Society centers often benefit from advanced robotics, which may reduce long-term adhesion risks compared to traditional open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that dehydration and chronic diarrhea are the most underestimated daily challenges. While the remaining bowel adapts over months, lifelong monitoring of B12 levels and dietary adjustments remain essential for long-term health.

Why do patients travel to Germany for small intestine resection?

Patients choose Germany for small intestinal resection due to highly specialized visceral surgery centers and advanced laparoscopic precision. German clinics offer a 90% efficacy rate for complex cases like Crohn’s disease or bowel cancer while maintaining exceptionally low post-operative morbidity and infection rates.

  • Surgical precision: Surgeons use Da Vinci robotic systems to preserve nerves and blood vessels accurately.
  • Specialized certification: Most centers hold German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) accreditation.
  • Fast availability: International patients bypass long waitlists, often securing surgery within 2–3 weeks.
  • Tumor board care: Multidisciplinary teams customized treatment for aggressive gastrointestinal cancers or rare disorders.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose large hospital networks for standardization, academic clinics like Medical Center in Solingen offer specific advantages. They treat 60,000 patients annually and integrate research directly into surgical care. This high volume leads to deeper experience in handling recurrent obstructions that local doctors might downplay.

Patient Consensus: Many seek second opinions here when local doctors refuse surgery for strictures or fistulas. Patients frequently mention relief at the faster diagnostic process and clear communication regarding post-discharge follow-up.

Which surgical techniques are primarily used by German surgeons for small intestine resection?

German surgeons primarily utilize laparoscopic and open surgery for small intestine resection. Minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopic keyhole surgery are standard for elective procedures, while open laparotomy is reserved for emergency cases, complex tumors, or severe inflammation within German Cancer Society-certified centers.

  • Laparoscopic surgery: Uses 3-5 small incisions for faster recovery and reduced postoperative pain.
  • Open laparotomy: Provides direct access via vertical incision for bowel obstructions or trauma.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: Enhances 3D visualization for complex resections at specialized university hospitals.
  • Bowel-sparing techniques: Includes stricturoplasty for Crohn’s disease to prevent short bowel syndrome.
  • Primary anastomosis: Reconnects healthy segments using hand-sewn or mechanical linear stapling methods.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While robotic systems are available, Bookimed data shows high-tier clinics like Nordwest Hospital or Solingen focus on specialized certifications like the German Cancer Society seal. Surgeons like Dr. Peter Schenker often prioritize laparoscopic-assisted externalization, which combines minimal internal trauma with the precision of external bowel stapling.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the laparoscopic-first approach for quicker mobility but remain prepared for an open surgery conversion if surgeons find unexpected scar tissue or inflammation during the procedure.

Which hospitals in Germany are considered top-tier for small intestine resection?

Top-tier German hospitals for small intestine resection include Medical Center in Solingen, Nordwest Clinic, and Helios University Hospital Wuppertal. These facilities are certified by the German Cancer Society and specialize in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery for complex abdominal conditions.

  • Expert surgical leadership: Dr. Peter Schenker in Solingen coordinates a certified colorectal cancer center.
  • High patient volumes: Helios University Hospital Wuppertal treats roughly 150,000 patients annually across departments.
  • Advanced robotic tools: Nordrhein-Westfalen Clinic Complex utilizes specialized robotic surgery for high-precision bowel resections.
  • International recognition: Nordwest Clinic is ranked among the World's Best Hospitals 2021 by Newsweek.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While university hospitals like Helios Wuppertal offer massive scale, specialized centers like Medical Center in Solingen provide a distinct advantage. Their chief surgeon specifically trained the department in robotics for visceral surgery. This focused expertise in one location often ensures more consistent outcomes for delicate bowel reconstructions.

Patient Consensus: Patients prioritize high-volume university centers for complex resections that may involve stoma decisions. Experience with minimally invasive techniques is frequently cited as the most critical factor for a smoother recovery.

What is the expected inpatient hospital stay after a small intestine resection in Germany?

Inpatient hospital stays after small intestine resection in Germany typically range from 5 to 10 days. Laparoscopic procedures often allow discharge within 3 to 5 days. Open surgeries or complex cases involving Crohn's disease or tumors generally require 7 to 12 days for safe monitoring.

  • Minimally invasive approach: Patients usually return home in 3 to 5 days after laparoscopic resection.
  • Standard open surgery: Traditional laparotomy typically requires a stay of 5 to 7 days.
  • ERAS protocol impact: Enhanced recovery protocols can reduce inpatient stays to just 3 to 6 days.
  • Primary discharge criteria: Clinicians require bowel function return, fluid tolerance, and independent mobility before release.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Medical Center in Solingen and Nordwest Clinic prioritize structured discharge criteria over fixed timelines. Our data shows that centers led by experts like Dr. Peter Schenker utilize specialized recovery paths. These modern methods focus on early solid food introduction within 48 hours to speed up discharge.

Patient Consensus: The first 72 hours are often the most challenging due to nausea and IV lines. Patients emphasize that focusing on small walks and light movement early on helps restore bowel function much faster.

What diet and bowel movement changes should I expect after surgery?

Patients recovering from small intestine resection in Germany should expect a multi-stage diet progression and temporary bowel irregularity. Initial steps include clear liquids followed by low-fiber soft foods for 4 to 6 weeks. High-protein, small meals help support tissue repair and stabilize digestion during the early healing phase.

  • Diet progression: Transition from clear liquids to low-residue foods like white rice and potatoes.
  • Meal frequency: Eat 4 to 6 small snacks daily to prevent overwhelming the digestive tract.
  • Bowel changes: Expect frequent loose stools or constipation due to anesthesia and bowel length.
  • Hydration needs: Drink at least 64 ounces of water daily to manage fluid loss from diarrhea.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Medical Center in Solingen and Helios University Hospital Wuppertal prioritize visceral surgery specializations with high patient volumes. Data shows these centers emphasize early movement and metabolic support to restart gut motility. Patients should ask how much ileum was removed, as losing the terminal ileum can impact B12 absorption permanently.

Patient Consensus: Many experience sudden urgency and noisy bloating in the first weeks. Most suggest introducing new foods slowly to identify individual triggers while accepting that a new baseline for bowel frequency is normal.
