Lipoma Removal in Mexico: Pros and Cons

Lipoma removal in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Lipoma removal in Mexico typically costs $2,200–$3,000 compared to $4,000+ in the US, offering 40–60% savings. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (1–2%), hematoma, or scarring, similar to rates in the US when performed by qualified surgeons.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER), many with US or European training and a high volume of procedures performed. Follow-up care. Post-operative visits may be challenging for international patients, but clinics often provide telemedicine support and detailed discharge instructions.
Modern facilities. Clinics use equipment from leading brands and hold ISO 9001 or JCI accreditation, meeting international standards. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS oversees Mexican clinics, which differ from FDA standards. Top clinics follow international protocols, minimizing regulatory gaps.
Shorter wait times. Procedures are often scheduled within days to weeks, reducing delays compared to US waitlists. Travel logistics. Patients must arrange travel and accommodation, and recovery away from home can be less convenient. Regional hubs like Tijuana and Cancun offer accessible options and support services.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified professionals in accredited facilities, lipoma removal in Mexico can be a safe and cost-effective choice.

The medical team was great
The medical team was great, the hospital was top notch. Dr. Pliego was available online throughout the entire process (both pre and post surgery) and the surgery went smoothly.
Even though Dr. Pliego was in another surgery when I was released from the hospital, I appreciated the hospital was able to provide my prescription for both antibiotics and pain medicine so I was able to leave and recover in our Air BnB s I was ready to leave the hospital.
I signed a lot of paperwork that wasn't in english.
