"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Chemotherapy for testicular cancer in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the most common chemotherapy regimens used in South Korea?

Major South Korean hospitals follow standardized national guidelines and NCCN-adapted protocols for chemotherapy. Common regimens include BEP (bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin) for testicular cancer, FOLFOX for colorectal cases, and S-1 or CAPOX for gastric cancer. Treatment occurs in JCI-accredited centers in Seoul with intensive weekly monitoring.

  • Testicular cancer protocols: BEP (3 cycles) is standard; EP (4 cycles) avoids bleomycin lung toxicity.
  • Gastrointestinal regimens: FOLFOX serves 82.5% of colorectal cases; S-1 is a post-surgery gastric standard.
  • Lung and breast: Platinum doublets treat lung cancer, while AC/EC regimens dominate breast cancer care.
  • Monitoring standards: Patients undergo intensive weekly blood tests with shorter hospital stays than Western clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many global centers use general oncology wards, Seoul's top-tier hospitals like Asan Medical Center and Severance Hospital utilize ultra-specialized dedicated cancer centers. These facilities manage massive volumes, such as Asan's 11,800 daily outpatients, leading to highly efficient, outpatient-friendly protocols that reduce total travel time for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that fertility preservation is prioritized, with sperm freezing routinely subsidized before starting cycles. Medical teams monitor lung function extra closely during BEP treatments to manage potential risks effectively.

How many cycles of chemotherapy are usually required?

Patients typically receive 3 to 4 cycles of chemotherapy for testicular cancer in the Republic of Korea. A full course usually lasts 3 to 6 months. Most protocols utilize the BEP regimen comprising bleomycin, etoposide, and platinum-based drugs like cisplatin.

  • Standard protocol: Most good-risk cases requires 3 cycles of BEP or 4 cycles of EP.
  • Stage 1 risk: High-risk stage 1 patients may receive 1 to 2 adjuvant cycles.
  • Advanced cases: Metastatic or non-responding cases often require 4 or more intensive cycles.
  • Rest periods: Each cycle includes 21 days of treatment followed by a recovery window.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea leading facilities like Seoul National University Hospital maintain some of the highest cancer treatment statistics globally. Data shows these top-tier centers often favor bleomycin-sparing protocols like 3EP for patients with potential lung sensitivities. This specialized approach maintains high success rates while reducing long-term respiratory side effects.

Patient Consensus: Many patients emphasize tracking tumor markers weekly to confirm the treatment is working. Some noted that while 2 cycles are common post-surgery, a 3rd may be added if markers do not drop fully.

Will chemotherapy affect my fertility?

Chemotherapy for testicular cancer may cause temporary or permanent infertility by slowing or stopping sperm production. While many patients in Republic of Korea recover fertility within 2 to 5 years, others experience long-term azoospermia depending on the drug type and dosage used.

  • At-risk regimens: BEP (bleomycin, etoposide, cisplatin) carries higher infertility risks than single-agent carboplatin.
  • Recovery timeline: Sperm production often returns to stable levels 24 to 60 months post-treatment.
  • Preservation timing: Experts recommend banking sperm immediately upon diagnosis before tumor markers affect quality.
  • Advanced options: Seoul urologists provide backup solutions like testicular sperm extraction (TESE) for post-chemo recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers like Asan Medical Center and Seoul National University Hospital offer integrated fertility services within their oncology departments. While these services are efficient, they can be fast-paced. Patients should request a dedicated fertility consultation simultaneously with their oncology mapping to ensure preservation happens before the first cycle.

Patient Consensus: Many patients emphasize banking sperm immediately after diagnosis rather than waiting for staging. They suggest tracking semen analysis every 6 months post-treatment and adopting lifestyle changes to aid recovery.

Where can I receive chemotherapy in South Korea?

Patients can receive advanced chemotherapy at world-class South Korean institutions like Asan Medical Center, Severance Hospital, and Seoul National University Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities in Seoul offer multidisciplinary cancer care, including specialized BEP protocols for testicular cancer and integrated robotic surgery.

  • Asan Medical Center: Largest multidisciplinary hospital treating over 11,000 outpatients daily with high oncology success rates.
  • Severance Hospital: Features a dedicated cancer center specializing in chemotherapy, AI-driven diagnostics, and rehabilitation.
  • SNU Bundang Hospital: Utilizes the BESTcare system to ensure maximum safety and precision during drug administration.
  • Ewha Womans University: Provides specialized urogenital cancer treatments within a facility recognized by Newsweek magazine.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear volume-to-quality correlation in Seoul. Asan Medical Center performs over 65,000 operations annually, while Severance manages 1.6 million outpatients. Choosing these high-volume centers often means access to more refined chemotherapy protocols, such as the 3-cycle BEP treatment common for germ cell tumors.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the presence of English-speaking coordinators and the availability of affordable on-site dorms for approximately $50 per night. Many emphasize that medical tourism visas (C-3-3) are straightforward to obtain for these specific oncology treatments.
