How Much Does Laparoscopic Anti-Reflux (GERD) Surgery Cost in Turkey?

Laparoscopic Anti-Reflux (GERD) Surgery in Turkey typically costs from $3,500 to $6,500. The final price depends on the specific surgical technique, the clinic tier, and the complexity of accompanying conditions like a hiatal hernia. Patients save around 82% compared to the US, where this procedure costs $27,500 on average. Standard packages often include preoperative tests, surgeon fees, hospitalization, and language assistance.

  • Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF): $3,500 to $6,500 for an incision-free endoscopic approach.
  • Anti-Reflux Mucosal Ablation (ARMA): Typically starts around $8,800 for specialized endoscopic treatment of reflux.
  • Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication: Generally ranges from $6,000 to $13,200 depending on the specialist's seniority.
  • Geographic location: Major medical hubs for this surgery include Istanbul and Ankara.
  • All-inclusive premium packages: These can add significant value by bundling VIP transfers and hotel stays.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a university-affiliated hospital often yields the highest value for complex reflux cases. For example, Istinye University Medical Park Gaziosmanpasa offers JCI-accredited care for approximately $6,000. Meanwhile, clinics like Lotus Bariatrics provide highly specialized care for about $3,350. We see that while premium groups like Memorial charge more, they offer vast experience with over 500,000 annual patients.

Her coordination efforts were astounding as she was able to contact the hospital and coordinate all activities with short notice
Bookimed was a tremendous help to me. Dr Hanna was an amazing coordinator. She helped answer all my questions, looked for different hospitals and pricing, and always responded to me the same day. Her coordination efforts were astounding as she was able to contact the hospital and coordinate all activities with short notice. I truly appreciated her help and support throughout the whole process. I would definitely recommend Bookimed for anyone seeking affordable healthcare and quality service. Very happy with my results.
Dr Hanna’s support and coordination. It was truly an effortless experience knowing she was there to help meet all my needs. Her support gave me the comfort in using health services outside the US.
Nothing major. Took a little time to get my final report (about a week). The doctors assistant was apparently sick but I was happy regardless since the results of the colonoscopy and endoscopy were given immediately after the procedure.
About Bookimed service
Bookimed was the ultimate reason I chose to seek medical services outside the US. They made the experience well coordinated and trouble free. Dr Hanna was super responsive and willing to help in any way possible. I was able to get a response the same day (often times within a few seconds of asking). I was very happy with Bookimed and recommend it to anyone looking for healthcare abroad. Kudos to the whole team for making it a great experience.

Personally, I was satisfied 👍
Honest review!!! Had a gastrochecap! I was satisfied with the procedure! Fast, competent, everything was clear and accessible! The price is average (in Germany, for example, the same procedure is three times more expensive 🤷‍♂️)! The whole procedure lasted 20 minutes under sedation! Results and recommendations were immediately within 5 minutes after the procedure! During the procedure (endoscopy and colonoscopy) I did not feel the slightest discomfort! I can confidently recommend this clinic! Personally, I was satisfied 👍

We feel in safe hands
We returned to the hospital for an unplanned, emergency visit after my father's usual post-transplant check ups. I can't thank enough Aliser for being so helpful and available in arranging everything last minute (on a Sunday!). The doctor's expertise and empathy is second to none. I would especially like to thank our surgeon Dr. Yuzer and Dr. Ahmet for their expertise, kind support and care. We feel in safe hands.

- The doctor seems to be experienced, he seems to have told everything, he gave answers to our questions
The organization was a success, transfer, hotel reservation. The doctor seems to be experienced, he seems to have told everything, he gave answers to our questions, but it seems that he didn’t get into our problem, it’s clear that this is his daily work, but for some reason it seemed that they would give us more time and take care of our issue more closely, but our expectations are our problems. They were not in the hospital, there was only a diagnosis.

We did not go to the clinic, we sent histology for review. Answers waited a long time and pulled out, we can say with forceps. All the answers were very concise, constantly had to ask for the addition. They paid for the advice of the doctor, but in fact did not receive it. In general, this hospital disappointed us. Perhaps the doctors there are good, but remote consultation is lame very much. Constantly communicated with Yulia Andreychuk. Yulia answered all questions quickly and provided information well. I was pleased with her work.

I was in the clinic a week ago on gastroenterology. Clinic liked. I advise. All at the proper international level. Doctors are professional, the professor himself did gastroscopy and colonoscopy. FAQ about Laparoscopic Anti-Reflux (GERD) Surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery in Turkey is safe and effective when performed by high-volume surgeons at JCI-accredited hospitals. Success rates for reflux resolution range from 85% to 95%. Minimally invasive techniques like Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair reduce recovery time compared to open surgery.

  • Success rates: Patients typically achieve 85% to 95% resolution of chronic acid reflux symptoms.
  • Clinical certifications: Top facilities hold Joint Commission International (JCI) and ISO 9001 quality accreditations.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics utilize the Da Vinci Surgical System and high-definition laparoscopic imaging tools.
  • Surgeon expertise: Leading specialists like Dr. Halil Alis have published over 70 scientific research papers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows a massive price variance from $3,350 to $13,200. The highest-priced packages often include complex hiatal hernia repairs and 5-day hotel stays. For standard GERD, mid-range packages at university-affiliated hospitals offer the best balance of academic expertise and value.

Patient Consensus: Patients report high satisfaction with reflux relief but emphasize choosing surgeons with over 100 annual cases. While many stop medications, some note that managing expectations regarding long-term gas-bloat side effects is crucial.

Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery in Turkey typically takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anesthesia. Surgeons use a minimally invasive approach with 4 to 6 small incisions to wrap the upper stomach around the lower esophagus, known as Nissen fundoplication, to prevent acid reflux.

  • Surgical technique: Surgeons perform 360-degree Nissen or partial Toupet wraps.
  • Access method: Procedures use CO2 gas inflation and tiny camera-guided ports.
  • Safety checks: Doctors perform intraoperative dye swallow tests to ensure zero leaks.
  • Hospital stay: Most patients receive discharge within 24 to 48 hours post-operation.
  • Recovery period: Full recovery takes 2 to 4 weeks with an initial soft diet.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many high-end packages in Istanbul cost over $12,000, clinics like Lotus Bariatrics offer the same laparoscopic procedure for $3,350. This lower price tier often includes essential diagnostic tests like Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) which are vital for confirming the specific type of fundoplication needed before surgery begins.

Patient Consensus: Patients report the physical recovery feels like intense cramping rather than major surgery. Most travelers recommend staying 1 to 2 nights in the hospital even if the clinic suggests an outpatient schedule for better pain management.

Most patients are medically cleared to fly 10 to 14 days after laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery in Turkey. While initial recovery occurs within 3 to 7 days, internal healing and gas bloating from the procedure make waiting 2 weeks the ideal timeframe for a comfortable flight home.

  • Hospital stay: Expect to spend 2 to 3 days in a JCI-accredited Turkish facility.
  • Initial recovery: Severe bloating and gas pain typically peak during the first 3 days.
  • Activity levels: Patients usually return to near-normal routines and light walking by week 3.
  • Flying safety: Surgeons recommend waiting 14 days to avoid discomfort from cabin pressure changes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from high-volume clinics like Istinye University Hospital shows that packages including 5 hotel days plus 2 hospital nights are the most successful. This 7-day minimum stay ensures that the most intense gas pain passes before you attempt to navigate an airport.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that while they feel nearly normal by day 6, sitting for 4 or more hours during a flight is difficult. They strongly suggest booking flexible tickets in case you need extra rest days in Istanbul.

Ideal candidates for laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery in Turkey include patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) who experience persistent symptoms despite eight weeks of high-dose proton pump inhibitors. Successful outcomes are highest for those under 50 with a body mass index under 30 and confirmed hiatal hernias.

  • Medical necessity: Patients requiring daily medication for over 6 months with incomplete symptom relief.
  • Diagnostic results: Positive pH-impedance monitoring and high-resolution manometry confirming acid reflux or regurgitation.
  • Surgical feasibility: Individuals with a hiatal hernia seeking permanent relief from mechanical reflux issues.
  • Physical health: Non-smokers with a BMI under 30 and no major esophageal motility disorders.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top clinics like Lotus Bariatrics and Memorial Bahçelievler reveal that the most satisfied patients are those who undergo both Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair simultaneously. While high-volume surgeons like Dr. Halil Alis perform hundreds of these procedures annually, patients with a BMI over 30 should consider specialized bariatric evaluation first, as weight loss often resolves GERD symptoms more effectively than anti-reflux surgery alone.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that surgery is not for mild cases and suggest trialing maximum medication and diet for 3 months before committing. Those with proven mechanical reflux and normal motility reports generally experience the most significant improvement in quality of life.

Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery risks include gas bloat syndrome, dysphagia, and recurrent reflux. Most procedures in Turkey are minimally invasive, utilizing Nissen fundoplication or hiatal hernia repair to minimize trauma. Surgeons at JCI-accredited facilities typically require a 2-3 day hospital stay to monitor for early complications.

  • Gas bloat syndrome: Affects 40-60% of patients, causing inability to burp or vomit temporarily.
  • Persistent dysphagia: Swallowing difficulties impact 20-30% of patients and may require dilation procedures.
  • Slipped fundoplication: Occurs in 5-10% of cases and might necessitate emergency re-operation.
  • Surgical injuries: Rare risks include splenic injury or pneumothorax during the laparoscopic approach.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success rates for these procedures are highly volume-dependent. Dr. Kaplan Baha Temizgonul at Lotus Bariatrics Clinic maintains a 95% success rate. Choosing a surgeon who performs over 100 anti-reflux cases annually significantly reduces the risk of long-term vagus nerve damage.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend stocking up on blender-friendly foods and simethicone before surgery. They emphasize that while chronic bloating is a common trade-off, the relief from severe acid reflux is often transformative.

Pack loose-fitting, button-up shirts and elastic-waist pants to accommodate abdominal bloating and incisions after laparoscopic GERD surgery. Turkey facilities like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Bahçelievler maintain Joint Commission International accreditation, requiring comfortable, modest clothing for your 1-3 day hospital stay and recovery period.

  • Clothing type: Use front-zipping or button-up tops to avoid stretching over laparoscopic abdominal incisions.
  • Waistband comfort: Pack loose sweatpants or pajamas; avoid belts or tight jeans for 4-6 weeks.
  • Footwear choice: Bring sturdy slip-on shoes to eliminate bending over while dressing after your procedure.
  • Temperature control: Layer with cardigans or light jackets as hospital air conditioning is often cold.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While clinics like Lotus Bariatrics or VM Medical Park Florya provide medical essentials, they rarely supply specific post-op extras. Our data shows patients recover faster when bringing their own gas-relief medication. Laparoscopic surgery uses CO2 gas, and having simethicone on hand helps manage the common post-op shoulder pain.

Patient Consensus: Former patients emphasize packing dry shampoo and lip balm for the hospital stay. They also recommend testing every outfit for easy incision access before leaving home.
