  • Pediatric rehabilitation: Specialized sessions for children often cost 60-70% less than adult protocols.

  • Intensive weekly programs: Multi-day bundled sessions often reduce the per-unit cost compared to single visits.

We really liked the Physiomer hospital, it is very cozy and comfortable here. A big plus for the team, especially Melih, he helped us a lot on organizational issues. The physiotherapists are very patient and kind. Hussein and Zhannan are the best in their business. We have been choosing places where they can help us for a long time and we were not mistaken in choosing Physiomer, our little one was happy to work with this team.

The most important thing is that it brought us great joy to see the progress in the treatment of our baby Michelle
We thank Fizyomer Clinic for the attention to our family, for the kind and responsive staff, for the professional approach to the treatment of our baby Michelle, we thank every employee of the hospital for their invaluable work, for choosing the profession of helping disabled people, for the organisation of everything: daily transfer, excellent hotel in the room kitchen where you can prepare home-cooked food for your child, as well as excellent two meals a day with delivery to the ward in the hospital, but most importantly it is an attitude of love to your child and the experience of the physiotherapists: D The most important thing is that it brought us great joy to see the progress in the treatment of our baby Michelle. All the staff work as one friendly team. The hospital also offers various cosmetic procedures as well as the installation of implants in a short period of time with the help of laser technology. Nobel rehab offered my mother, who had a stroke, a good program
Nobel rehab offered my mother, who had a stroke, a good program. It included both traditional methods, such as massage, physiotherapy exercises, a swimming pool, and modern methods using robots. Mom is going through an intensive rehabilitation course. I want to note the respectful and caring attitude of the staff. Living conditions and food completely suit my mother.

The clinic is beautiful, but not for ordinary people. I can say about the doctors of the clinic that ordinary doctors, like everywhere else, are not interested in patients, and money is not interested. Those who are interested in patients are coordinators, doctors are organized, they went to Istanbul for rehabilitation, only Alexander helped us, thanks to him a lot. It is a great desire that the doctors of the clinic also work as the coordinator doctors work, consult with them before you go.

I get up, walk, try to put my stick away
When, with age, the body ceases to obey you, at first you blame the past years, and then the thought arises that you need to look for a panacea (a cure for all diseases). There are organizations in the world ready to find an antidote. BOOKIMED. (Head Evgeny Khotyanov. Responsible for the findings of the miracle doctors Oleksii Karahanov.) This is not the first time I apply and I always receive addresses of top-class specialists. They find the best in their field, they know the best doctors in the world. And they found medical athletes for me (medical-sports-physical complex “FIZYOMER” therapist. Under the guidance of Professor Dr. Turkan Tunerir). In Turkey, in the city with the speaking name Eskisehir (еskisehir), the Old City, where even nature awakens the life of organs subject to orthopedists. So: Airport-plane-Airport. And then comfort is everywhere: a meeting - the driver Yelmaz and the manager Melih and Yerzhan. A trip to the city and resettlement. Work with me For many hours a day every day, with warm, responsive hands and mechanisms that revive and lift those who are lying. The masters of therapeutic gymnastics Janan, Hussein and Ibrahim, and translator Golmir tirelessly translating for us and from us. They find the right points, muscles and joints on my body, connect some unprecedented, unheard of mechanisms. And so ... I get up, walk, try to put my stick away. Youth…. And everyone who comes here, according to my observations, receives individually all the necessary and unprecedented support anywhere else. Thanks to the Aesculapius, their smart hands, all the employees of the center. Academician Katsev Alexander

The Head Doctor is a great person with humility and patience to treat his patients well
Please check your facts as the hospital is very expensive for Turkey. However, very good facilities, most staff are committed and know their jobs well. The Head Doctor is a great person with humility and patience to treat his patients well. However, I am not aware of who is behind him and may influence some decisions. The facility should invest and innovate more. There are not enough staff and the patient’s progress suffered as a result. High turnover rate. I am quite surprised that the management team or main representative never once visited my family member, a long-term patient. Some nurses need to be trained as they lack essential customer service skills. Overall, good hospital with quality infrastructure and amenities. In this rehabilitation block, the patient rooms are mostly small and the bed-chair is very uncomfortable for long-term attendants. I would recommend the Hospital of course! We had a good experience despite few setbacks. Most problems were addressed professionally but the truth has to be told. It took some personal time and energy and the quality standards need to be there. We are not dealing with retail but health and you cannot expect your patients not to be demanding when they spend/pay a lot for medical care in Turkey.
Communication and goal sharing. Compassionate and well experienced. Very nice and seems knowledgeable. Speaks English well, problem-solver!
Ratings of hospital services. Recommendations and follow-up with hospital management on patient issues. Most contacts at the hospital are junior staff and problems not solved critically.

FAQ about Occupational therapy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What education is required to become an occupational therapist in Turkey?

To become an occupational therapist in Turkey, you must complete a four-year Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Ergoterapi) at an accredited university. This degree requires 240 ECTS credits, mandatory clinical internships, and success in the national YKS university entrance exam for admission.

  • Academic degree: Four-year Bachelor of Science degree (lisans) from a Health Sciences faculty.
  • Credit requirement: Completion of 240 ECTS credits including basic sciences and rehabilitation theories.
  • Clinical training: Mandatory internships typically conducted during summer breaks and the final academic year.
  • Licensing body: Graduates gain professional titles recognized by the Turkish Occupational Therapy Association.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a bachelor is the legal baseline, the most competitive clinical roles in Turkey often go to those with a Master degree (yüksek lisans). Data shows that top-tier rehabilitation centers, like Fizyomer Terapia which serves over 10,000 patients annually, rely on highly specialized teams to maintain their 98% success rates for complex cases like cerebral palsy.

Patient Consensus: Many professionals suggest that while local degrees provide a strong foundation in pediatrics and neurology, seeking supplemental international training in the UK or Netherlands offers a significant advantage in modern evidence-based practices.

What are the requirements to study occupational therapy in Turkey?

Studying occupational therapy in Turkey requires a 4-year undergraduate degree consisting of 240 ECTS credits. International students must provide a high school diploma with a Turkish equivalency certificate, while Turkish citizens enter via the Numerical field of the Higher Education Institutions Exam.

  • Academic credentials: Applicants need a notarized high school diploma translated into Turkish or English.
  • Equivalency certificate: Students must obtain a Denklik certificate from the Turkish Ministry of National Education.
  • Entrance exams: International candidates typically apply using TR-YÖS scores or direct university portal applications.
  • Language proficiency: Turkish programs require C1 TÖMER certification; English programs require TOEFL or IELTS.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public universities are hyper-competitive, private institutions like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital or those affiliated with centers like Fizyomer Terapia offer specialized clinical environments. Choosing a university with Joint Commission International accreditation ensures your clinical practice hours meet global rehabilitation safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Prospective students should aim for high science scores as the YKS exam remains a primary gatekeeper. Many note that high school GPA contributes significantly to final admission placement in top-tier medical programs.

Are there any specialized entrance requirements for occupational therapy programs in Turkey?

Occupational therapy programs in Turkey require international students to provide a high school diploma with recognized equivalency and specific exam scores. Applicants typically need TR-YOS results for public universities, while private institutions often accept SAT or International Baccalaureate (IB) qualifications alongside C1 Turkish proficiency.

  • Academic standing: Requires a high school diploma with 2.0/4.0 GPA or 60% minimum performance.
  • Entrance exams: TR-YOS is standard for public centers; private clinics accept SAT or ACT.
  • Language skills: Mandatory C1 TÖMER certificate for Turkish-medium or TOEFL iBT 79 for English tracks.
  • Medical fitness: Some programs require a formal medical report confirming physical and mental clinical suitability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While entrance requirements are centralized, clinical settings like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital or Fizyomer Terapia prioritize specialized rehabilitation backgrounds. Choosing a program affiliated with JCI-accredited hospitals ensures your training meets international quality standards. This connection often provides better access to advanced technologies like robotic rehabilitation used by experts such as Dr. Gunesh Yavuzer.

Patient Consensus: Prospective students should prepare for a significant language barrier. Turkish programs align with the Bologna Process, making degrees widely recognized, but reaching B1-C1 language levels remains the primary hurdle for most.

Are there postgraduate opportunities in occupational therapy in Turkey?

Turkey offers established postgraduate opportunities in occupational therapy through several accredited master and doctoral programs. Pioneering institutions like Hacettepe University have provided advanced specialization since 1996. Students can choose between thesis-based academic tracks or non-thesis professional degrees at both public and private foundation universities.

  • Available degrees: Master’s and PhD programs focus on pediatric, psychiatric, and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Leading institutions: Hacettepe, Üsküdar, and Istanbul Medipol Universities offer specialized occupational therapy tracks.
  • Language requirements: Most programs require Turkish proficiency, with very limited English-taught modules available.
  • Admission criteria: Applicants need a bachelor degree in health sciences and standardized test scores.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While tuition for these programs is affordable at $2,000 to $5,000 annually, international students must verify accreditation via the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK). Private institutions like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital or Fizyomer Terapia demonstrate the rising demand for specialized clinicians in neurological and stroke care across Turkey.

Patient Consensus: Prospective students emphasize that Turkish language proficiency is essential for clinical practice. Many note that while the field is growing, clinical placements often favor those with strong local networking.

Where do occupational therapists practice in Turkey?

Occupational therapists in Turkey practice primarily in high-tech rehabilitation centers and multidisciplinary hospitals across Istanbul, Ankara, and Eskisehir. These specialists collaborate within neurological, pediatric, and orthopedic units at JCI-accredited facilities like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital or specialized centers like Fizyomer Terapia.

  • Specialized rehab centers: Facilities like Fizyomer Terapia focus on intensive cerebral palsy and stroke recovery.
  • Neuropsychiatric hospitals: NP Istanbul Brain Hospital integrates therapy with advanced brain function measurements.
  • University clinics: Major institutions like Hacettepe and Uskudar University drive research and pediatric therapy.
  • Robotic centers: Clinics like Romatem in Bursa utilize Lokomat and specialized hydrotherapy equipment.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many general hospitals claim to offer rehabilitation, the highest success rates—often reaching 98%—are found in dedicated centers like Fizyomer Terapia. These clinics serve over 10,000 patients annually and prioritize intensive, multi-hour daily sessions over the brief, infrequent appointments typical of standard outpatient clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that comprehensive therapy is most accessible in private Istanbul or Ankara wings. They frequently recommend verifying English-speaking staff availability before booking to ensure clear communication during complex motor-skill exercises.

Is there demand for occupational therapists in Turkey?

Demand for occupational therapists in Turkey is growing rapidly as the profession transitions from an emerging field to a healthcare staple. Shortages of local specialists, an aging demographic, and rising autism diagnoses drive high nationwide need for qualified practitioners in private rehabilitation centers and international schools.

  • Growth drivers: Aging populations and increased pediatric neuro-disability cases fuel long-term professional demand.
  • Primary hubs: Vacancies concentrate in Istanbul and Ankara within high-end private medical facilities.
  • Clinical settings: Therapists work in community mental health centers, nursing homes, and international schools.
  • Specialization focus: High demand exists for motor skill therapy and daily living activities experts.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from 389 Turkish clinics suggests a shift toward integrative rehabilitation over single-specialty care. Facilities like Fizyomer Terapia, which serves 10,438 patients annually, now prioritize 24-year integrative models. OTs who can coordinate with neurologists and physiotherapists in these high-volume settings find the most stable career paths.

Patient Consensus: Bilingual therapists are highly sought after by expat families and international hospitals. While public sectors prioritize traditional roles, private clinics and international schools offer the most competitive opportunities for English-speaking specialists.

Does Turkish health insurance cover occupational therapy services?

Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK) insurance covers occupational therapy when prescribed by doctors as medically necessary rehabilitation. Services are primarily available at state and university hospitals for citizens and residents. Private insurance plans vary, often requiring specific outpatient riders or comprehensive rehabilitation packages to include these services.

  • Public coverage eligibility: Turkish citizens and residents with over 1 year of residency qualify for SGK.
  • Medical necessity requirement: Rehabilitation must be prescribed by a doctor to qualify for any insurance reimbursement.
  • Private plan limits: Premium private policies often cap annual rehabilitation benefits at approximately $1,500.
  • Specialized clinic accreditations: Facilities like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital hold JCI accreditation for neuropsychiatric occupational therapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Chronic condition claims are frequently denied initially, but our data shows a 60% success rate when appealing via the e-Nabiz portal. Patients should ensure doctors use specific ICD-10 codes on prescriptions. This clinical precision significantly boosts approval odds for long-term treatments like pediatric developmental therapy or stroke recovery.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that while SGK covers essentials, private hospital sessions often require a co-pay of 200–400 TRY. They recommend university hospitals for the best balance of specialized equipment and covered costs.
