My 34 years of medicine – which is more than half my life… After thousands of surgeries, the excitement and sense of responsibility of the first day still outweigh it. My father was a doctor, a neurologist too. I would always give the same response to those asking what I would be in elementary and secondary school: Neurosurgeon. When I started my neurosurgery residency at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital in 1992, my childhood goal was fulfilled. Two points have always stood out from the others throughout my medical career: 1. Don’t harm anyone. 2. The most important relationship between the doctor and patient is the relationship of trust. In line with the principle of “first do no harm” in Turkish with “primum non nocere” in Latin, I have always preferred to perform secured surgeries under the microscope from smaller incisions. I didn’t perform any surgery that I wasn’t sure the patient would benefit from. So I’ve always been in a position to convince myself first of the need for surgery. Then I convince my patient. I kept in mind that the most important relationship between surgeon and patient is the relationship of trust. How can a person entrust his life to someone he saw 15 minutes ago without a relationship of trust? I cared about this relationship lasting post-surgery and even for life. I’ve had the first walks of my patients that I’ve operated in 28 years. Sometimes even after midnight many times… I’ve always cared about some patients’ feeling of their need to see their physician even at 03.00 o’clock midnight. I don’t mind giving all my patients my cell phone number. I would want my physician to be available at any time as needed. That’s what I do for my patients. In these lines, I felt the need to describe my view of medicine. Anyone who wonders anyway can reach my resume and my publications.

Dr. Fatma Gulhan Sahbaz is a neurologist. She graduated from Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine. She completed her neurology residency at SBÜ Istanbul Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital. Dr. Sahbaz has served as Clinic Chief at Afyonkarahisar State Hospital. She currently practices at İzmir Ekonomi University Medical Point Hospital.

She treats many neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, epilepsy, cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumors, movement disorders, and headaches. Professionally, he has held various positions, including Faculty Member in the Department of Neurosurgery at Haliç University, and Associate Professor at Private Adatip Istanbul Hospital and Biruni University Hospital. Prof. Dr. Ilhan Elmaci is a leading neurosurgeon. He is known for his skill in brain and spinal surgeries, neurooncology, and skull base surgery. He has worked at top institutions such as Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Elmaci has introduced new techniques in microsurgery and endoscopic skull base surgery.

He is the founding chairman of the Skull Base Society in Turkey. He is also an active member of the European Skull Base Society. Dr. Elmaci has helped advance neurosurgery through teamwork across specialties. He led Turkey’s first EANS-accredited neurosurgery clinic. He also holds accreditations from the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies.

Dr. Elmaci has published over 110 scientific papers and given more than 250 presentations at congresses. His work continues to influence neurosurgical practice and patient care around the world.

Dr. Canan Yildirim is a neonatology and pediatric specialist. She earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English). She completed her residency in Child Health and Diseases at Hacettepe University. She also received a minor in Neonatology from Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Training and Research Hospital.

He helped to establish Austria’s stroke registry. He has held leadership roles in the Austrian Stroke Society. He is also Professor of Neurology at Sigmund Freud Private University in Vienna.

I am a specialist in neurosurgery, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University, a certified instructor of endoscopic spine surgery. I specialize in surgical treatment of brain and spine diseases, as well as in interventional pain treatment. I completed my specialization training in neurosurgery at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Medical University of Warsaw and at the Department of Neurosurgery of the CMKP in Warsaw. Dr. Oren Shibolet is a highly experienced gastroenterologist and hematologist with over 50 years of practice. He is a leading expert in liver conditions and treatments, having served as the Head of the Liver Unit at Sourasky (Ichilov) Medical Center. He has a degree in general medicine from the Hebrew University, a specialty in gastroenterology from the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School, and is a member of multiple medical organizations. He is also an author of over 60 publications and 100 conference reports.

Dr. Mustafa Yavuz Samanci is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Medipol Acıbadem District Hospital in Istanbul. He has specialized training in stereotactic, functional, and pediatric neurosurgery. Dr. Samanci completed a clinical fellowship in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. He has also finished advanced programs in spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation. He received several TÜBİTAK postdoctoral research fellowships and the Prof. Dr. Hakan Caner Overseas Education Scholarship from the Turkish Neurosurgical Society.

Dr. Samanci is an active member of several national and international neurosurgical societies. These include the Turkish Neurosurgical Society, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, and the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. He has served on editorial boards and scientific committees. His work reflects significant contributions to academic neurosurgery and research.

After he became a neurologist, he did 3,5 years of obligatory service for the gouvernment, first 1,5 years in military (Iskenderun Navy Hospital) and two more years in Diyarbakır Social Security Hospital. He returned to Istanbul University in 1989. He worked in the Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota U.S.A. during 1990 - 1991 on Demantia and Behavioural neurology subjects.

He became an Associate Professor in 1994 and continued working in Istanbul University until 1999. Between 1999 - 2002, he worked at the Kadir Has University and also Florence Nightingale Hospital.

He served in the Faculty executive committee of Kadir Has University during 1999 - 2000 and became a professor in 2000. Following that, worked in the Kozyatağı Hospital between 2004 - 2013.  

Since 2013 he has been working in Florence Nightingale Hospital.
