Lyme Disease Support Package: Advanced Blood Purification (Double Filtration Plasmapheresis, DFPP)
This package is designed for patients with a confirmed diagnosis or suspected history of Lyme disease who are seeking an advanced supportive therapeutic approach to help reduce systemic inflammation and immune dysregulation associated with persistent symptoms.
Lyme disease, caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted by tick bites, is typically treated with appropriate antibiotic therapy. However, some patients continue to experience persistent symptoms—including fatigue, brain fog, musculoskeletal pain, cognitive difficulties, neuropathic symptoms, sleep disturbances, and reduced quality of life—even after completing standard treatment. The causes of these persistent symptoms remain an area of ongoing scientific research and may involve prolonged immune activation, chronic inflammation, autoimmune mechanisms, or other factors. While DFPP is not a treatment for the bacterial infection itself, some patients seek blood purification therapy as part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing systemic inflammatory burden.
The core of this package is Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFPP), an advanced blood purification therapy that selectively removes specific substances from the bloodstream. Unlike conventional Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), which removes a portion of the patient's plasma and replaces it with donor plasma or albumin solutions, DFPP selectively filters the patient's own plasma through specialized membranes. This allows targeted removal of specific substances while returning the patient's own purified plasma to the circulation, eliminating the need for plasma replacement in most cases.
DFPP may help reduce circulating inflammatory mediators, immune complexes, pathogenic autoantibodies, heavy metals, selected toxins, excess LDL cholesterol, and other substances that may contribute to chronic inflammation and immune activation. By reducing the burden of these circulating factors, DFPP may support overall well-being and complement conventional medical management in appropriately selected patients.
At Modern Apheresis (Nowoczesna Afereza), all procedures are performed using the AFERsmart Plus system by Medica S.p.A. (Italy) together with sterile single-use filtration systems. Each patient receives a personalized DFPP treatment plan based on their medical history, laboratory findings, previous Lyme disease treatment, current symptoms, and therapeutic goals. Throughout every procedure, patients remain under continuous supervision of experienced physicians and qualified medical staff to ensure the highest standards of safety, comfort, and care.
Suggested Schedule
Prior to arrival, online consultations and review of medical documentation are completed remotely.
Day 1: Arrival in Warsaw.
Day 2 (early morning): Comprehensive blood testing, if required
Day 3: DFPP procedure.
Important Information. Lyme disease and persistent post-treatment symptoms are complex medical conditions that require comprehensive medical evaluation and individualized management. DFPP is not an antibiotic treatment and does not eradicate Borrelia infection. It should be considered only as a supportive therapy that may help reduce systemic inflammatory burden in appropriately selected patients. The potential benefits of DFPP vary between individuals depending on the underlying condition, duration of symptoms, overall health status, and concurrent therapies. Treatment recommendations are made individually following a thorough medical evaluation.
