Hernia International: more details about the clinic

Mexico, Mexico City
Hernia International is a private surgical center within Hospital Angeles Lomas in Mexico City. Established in 2026, the facility focuses on abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair. The clinic treats patients from the United States and Canada through specialized surgical pathways.

Certifications and Surgical Standards

Hernia International holds JCI accreditation, confirming its adherence to international safety and quality protocols. The surgical team follows evidence-based standards for all repairs. Surgeons use mesh reinforcement for hernia defects larger than 1–2 cm. This supports long-term stability. The clinic also emphasizes prehabilitation to optimize patient health before surgery.

Surgical Specialties and Methods

The clinic handles both primary hernia repairs and complex reconstructions for recurrent cases. Specialists manage several types of abdominal and internal defects:

  • Inguinal hernias in the groin area
  • Umbilical hernias at the belly button
  • Incisional hernias from previous surgical scars
  • Hiatal hernias where the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm
  • Ventral and epigastric hernias

Surgeons use three main approaches: traditional open surgery, laparoscopic techniques, and robot-assisted surgery. The choice depends on hernia size and the patient's overall health. The team also treats mesh-related complications and performs repeat surgeries for failed repairs.

Dr. César Arturo Sánchez Camarena leads the surgical department. He completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition. Dr. Sánchez Camarena also holds a proctorship in gastrointestinal surgery from Juntendo University Hospital in Tokyo. He specializes in minimally invasive hernia repair and clinical research.

Technology and Preoperative Optimization

Hernia International uses robot-assisted platforms for precise abdominal wall reconstructions. This technology allows detailed suturing of soft tissue and muscular defects. The clinic uses high-quality mesh prosthetics designed for durability and tissue integration. Supportive garments are available for patients who aren't immediate surgery candidates.

Prehabilitation is mandatory before treatment. The medical team works with nutritionists and bariatric specialists to address specific risk factors:

  • Smoking cessation
  • Obesity management
  • Diabetes control

Managing these factors before surgery improves outcomes and reduces recovery risks.

International Patient Services

The Medical Concierge Service manages the entire process for international visitors. Support starts at the first virtual consultation and continues through the final check-up. The clinic offers two recovery options for patients staying in Mexico.

Patients can choose Roma/Condesa Stays to remain near the medical team in Mexico City. The concierge also provides a luxury private property in Xochitepec, Morelos. This warm-weather location suits private recovery after the initial post-operative phase. Patients walk and use stairs the same day as surgery.

Most patients resume daily activities within two weeks. The concierge team coordinates all logistics, including travel and local transportation. Virtual consultations let patients discuss their treatment plan before traveling. Coordinators provide services in English and Spanish for clear communication throughout the stay.

Well organized and professional care. Overall quality of service is excellent, with very good care for patients' needs. Some of the most recognized health care professionals work here. The most negative side to this facility is the cost of parking (outrageously expensive!!!).

Can't rate this hospital highly enough - it felt more like a 5* hotel than a hospital. My mother had laser eye surgery here by Dr. Jaime Mustri after being denied treatment at home - she can now see clearer than she has been able to do for decades. In addition to that, the staff at the hospital were amazing and their patient care far better than we have been used to. Keep up the good work guys!

Hate to have to put one star, but the cost of parking there kills everything else. It is the kind of place where you expect expensive doctors, and you get them, expensive food, you get it too, and obviously you know parking is going to be pricey, but nothing prepares you for those fees!! I am sure it is even in the illegal side, but like everything else in this country, who cares?? And to make it better, the parking lot and parking structure, they are the worse I have seen, spaces are so tiny that is impossible to open the doors once you manage to park… makes sense with those rates, for them, every centimeter pays…

Horrible customer service. Doctors don't give you receipt for treatment offered and it's a nightmare to talk to them by phone (phone keeps rigging and nobody anwers...)

Went to see a doctor who claimed he had been trained at Johns Hopkins. His degrees were completely fake. Unreal. Avoid this hospital at all costs.
