Alcohol addiction Treatment in The Beekeeper House

About the clinic

Alcohol addiction treatment at The Beekeeper House in Chiang Mai, Thailand, combines clinical psychology with Eastern philosophy in a resort-style setting. This licensed rehab center holds AACI Gold accreditation and is an approved provider for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The clinic uses a personalized approach to address the root causes of dependency through medically supervised detox and intensive residential therapy.

Medically supervised detoxification

The recovery process begins with a tailored detox plan to manage withdrawal symptoms safely. Dr. Paritat Silpakit, a registered psychiatrist and Medical Director, oversees the medical assistance. This phase takes place at The Warmth, a separate licensed site dedicated to clinical stability. The medical team monitors physical health closely before the patient transitions to the residential therapy phase.

Residential rehab programme

The core treatment requires a minimum stay of 35 days in a 16-bedroom mountain retreat. This immersive environment helps patients focus entirely on recovery away from daily triggers. The programme includes a variety of evidence-based methods and holistic sessions:

  • Individual and group therapy. Patients receive two 90-minute individual sessions and seven group therapy sessions every week.
  • Integrative therapy techniques. The clinic uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, and Schema Therapy.
  • Neurofeedback therapy. Specialists use Transformative Dynamical Neurofeedback™ to help regulate brain function and improve emotional stability.
  • Holistic wellness. Daily schedules include yoga, meditation, art therapy, and sessions with a personal trainer.
  • Nutritional support. All meals are approved by a nutritionist to help restore physical health during the stay.

Aftercare and long-term support

Recovery continues after the residential stay through a structured aftercare plan. Patients use the My Beekeeper app to access personalized wellness plans and crisis support. The clinic provides ongoing clinical check-ins and virtual sessions to help maintain sobriety. This digital support system bridges the gap between the retreat and the patient's home environment.

Programme inclusions

The residential package is designed to be all-inclusive to reduce stress for international patients. While flights are not included, the following services are part of the programme:

  • Medical supervision. Constant oversight during the detox and residential phases.
  • Therapeutic materials. All tools needed for art therapy and clinical workshops.
  • Logistics and meals. Airport transfers and all meals provided on-site.
  • Digital tools. Full access to the My Beekeeper aftercare application.

The Beekeeper House also works with Cigna and International SOS insurance providers. To learn more about the enrollment process, you can request a consultation through Bookimed.

The Beekeeper House: more details about the clinic

Thailand, Chiang Mai
The Beekeeper House is a medically licensed residential treatment center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Established in 1996, it operates in the Saluang area of Mae Rim District. The center treats addiction, mental health conditions, and behavioral issues. Its clinical model blends Western psychology with Eastern philosophy.

Accreditations and Achievements

The center holds a full medical license from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health. It is a regulated medical facility, not a wellness retreat. Key certifications and honors include:

  • AACI Gold accreditation from the American Accreditation Commission International
  • US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) approved provider status
  • Technology Innovation of the Year at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025
  • Winner of Best Mental Health & Addiction Treatment Centre in Thailand

Addiction and Behavioral Health Specialties

The facility provides specialized care for substance use and mood disorders. Medical Director Dr. Paritat Silpakit oversees clinical quality and safety. He is a registered psychiatrist with decades of experience in mental healthcare. The team includes Dr. Roshan Fernando, who focuses on adult psychiatry and addiction.

Treatment programs address a wide range of conditions:

  • Alcohol, drug, and benzodiazepine addiction
  • Opioid and cocaine dependence
  • Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety
  • Insomnia and eating disorders

The center uses several evidence-based therapeutic methods. Dr. Carin Killips and Dr. Colin Timberlake provide specialized interventions. They use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy to treat complex trauma. Dr. Killips has over 20 years of experience in counseling psychology. Dr. Timberlake has practiced for around 25 years.

Advanced Treatment Technologies

The clinic uses Transformative Dynamical Neurofeedback™ therapy. This exclusive technology regulates brain function non-invasively. It helps patients manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The system supports better emotional regulation, cognitive function, and sleep quality.

For clinical safety, the center partners with Bangkok Hospital. This gives patients direct access to specialist medical services. Emergency care and advanced diagnostics are available if needed. The My Beekeeper mobile app helps patients stay engaged with their recovery.

Services for International Patients

The center has 16 bedrooms in an intentionally small residential setting. Nutritionists approve all fresh, gourmet meals prepared on-site. Dedicated spaces for yoga, meditation, and recreation are available. Staff provide treatment and coordination in English and Thai.

International patients receive full support throughout their stay:

  • Assistance with travel documentation and arrival
  • Medically supervised detox at a dedicated separate site
  • Minimum residential stays of 35 days for lasting outcomes
  • Integrated aftercare planning that begins during the residential stay
  • Acceptance of Cigna and International SOS insurance

Aftercare includes ongoing clinical check-ins and resources through a tech-enabled platform. The team coordinates with external clinicians to support long-term recovery worldwide.

Really grateful to the whole team at The Beekeeper House for everything they did for me. Everyone was so kind and supportive and I never felt judged or like I was just another person there. The staff really care about what they do and it shows. The whole place is beautiful and the people made me feel comfortable from the start. Thank you to everyone at Beekeeper House, I honestly couldnt of asked for a better experience.

Five weeks at The Beekeeper House. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I went in thinking I needed a break from the pace of my life. What I did not anticipate was how much deeper it would go than that. Beekeeper House has a quiet way of dismantling the version of yourself you have been performing and helping you find something more authentic and solid underneath. That does not happen by accident. It happens because everything here is intentional and the curated routine strips away every distraction...the whole experience feels completely safe and purposeful even when you are doing the most uncomfortable work on yourself. The setting does a lot of that heavy lifting. Tucked into the hills of Chiang Mai, surrounded by beautiful mountains, it is the kind of place where you just start to feel and focus differently from the moment you arrive. You sleep differently here. You breathe differently. There is a stillness to it that is hard to find anywhere else in the world, let alone in the middle of a five week program designed to crack you open. The teams here are all exceptional. Starting with everyone from admissions (thank you Mark!), onsite support staff, nursing, housekeeping, and food/beverage, they are all so kind, caring, and attentive. And then you have a world-class crew of coaches, holistic superstars, and therapists, all true healers blending the best of East meets West philosophies and innovative treatment approaches. All my PT sessions were excellent (thank you Jack!) and the holistic treatments really helped open and awaken parts of me I'd forgotten, closed off, or carelessly neglected over the years (special shout-out to Keith and Anthony!). The food was a constant and genuine highlight. Chef Harry and his team are creative geniuses...think 5-star resort quality meals. You can choose your made-to-order breakfasts, lunches, and smoothes throughout the day and then there are different themed cuisines every night...Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, Indian, BBQ, etc. Every meal was a masterpiece. Finally, having the courage and vulnerability to make it to and show up everyday at The Beekeeper is really only the beginning (although admittedly that first step is so hard) and I think they do a really nice job preparing you to re-integrate back home and connecting you to the right professionals who can help you carry your journey of self-discovery forward. Many things/people in life promise transformation and deliver very little. This place is special and a rare exception.

The Beekeeper really helped me when I needed a reset and some help with the direction my life was going in. The psychologists were excellent and I learnt a lot over the 35 day stay I was there. The support and nursing staff were all very helpful and friendly. Also great food. I now understand a lot more about myself and have had a good revision course on all the tools I need in my box for life. Thailand was beautiful too, especially our visit to the elephants!

The holistic approach, combining therapy with wellness activities in a peaceful setting, allowed me to heal and gain clarity. I highly recommend Beekeeper House to anyone seeking meaningful, lasting change.

★★★☆☆ A complicated review I have spent approximately 50 days at The Beekeeper House and I am still here as I write this review. 3 stars feels fairest because parts of my experience deserve five stars, while one crucial part deserves none. First, the exceptional. My psychologist was phenomenal. During the most difficult period of my stay, my usual three hours of psychology increased to almost ten hours in one week. He went above and beyond to help me remain grounded and stable when I was struggling enormously. The holistic team was wonderful. Yoga Nidra, TRE and sound healing helped regulate my nervous system and sleep. The nurses carefully monitored my vitals while I experienced significant physical symptoms. I’m also deeply grateful to the psychiatrist, the support team, kitchen staff, cleaners, gardeners and massage therapists. The Thai staff truly bring this place to life. For these people, five stars. Unfortunately, my experience of the residential community deteriorated significantly. I experienced considerable hostility from other residents, including being sworn at and told to “shut the f**k up.” Singing, dancing, laughing, spending time alone and declining certain groups for personal safety became sources of conflict. Eventually, I withdrew almost completely because silence felt safer than continually defending myself. During this period, I experienced vomiting, gastrointestinal problems, profound exhaustion and episodes of collapse. I lost approximately 3.5kg during my stay. I am not claiming the facility or residents caused every physical symptom. I am describing what happened to my body during an extraordinarily stressful period. Ultimately, I was advised that leaving early would be better for my physical safety. My planned discharge was 30 September; I will instead leave on 19 September, the day after receiving my scheduled 300mg Abilify Maintena injection. This leaves me with one question I cannot reconcile: Why did the solution to a hostile group dynamic become the early departure of the person experiencing the hostility? The facility has agreed to refund my unused days and provide three psychology appointments through 30 September, which I genuinely appreciate. My family and I have also arranged support for my transition home. The Beekeeper House is an AACI-accredited psychiatric hospital. Accreditation does not mean nothing can go wrong, but I believe it creates a responsibility to examine what happens when something does. I was also uncomfortable with how normalized cigarette purchasing appeared to be within a facility treating addiction and mental health. I understand harm-reduction principles, but I would like to see greater emphasis on nicotine dependence and smoking cessation. So this is neither “The Beekeeper House saved me” nor “The Beekeeper House failed me.” Reality is more complicated. Some people here helped me enormously. Some aspects genuinely supported my healing. And the way the residential conflict and premature ending of my treatment were handled left me profoundly disappointed. Five stars for many of the humans who held me. Zero stars for how I experienced the conflict being resolved. Three stars feels fair.
