Treatment of drug addiction in The Warmth Rehab

About the clinic

Drug addiction treatment at The Warmth Rehab in Chiang Mai, Thailand, provides a focused recovery environment for a maximum of 15 residents. The clinic is certified by the Thailand Ministry of Public Health and holds SHA Plus recognition for health standards. Patients receive individualized care through evidence-based therapies and a doctor-led detoxification process.

Treatment Programs and Detoxification

The facility offers residential inpatient care typically lasting 28 to 30 days. This small-scale setting allows for high levels of personal attention from the clinical team. Medical detoxification is led by Dr. Kanok Uttawichai at the Ban Khun Morh Clinic. This process includes four key stages:

  • Medical assessment to evaluate physical and mental health.
  • Supervised withdrawal to manage symptoms safely.
  • Stabilisation to help the body adjust.
  • Transition planning for moving into the next phase of recovery.

For those who do not require full-time residence, an outpatient program provides 10 to 12 hours of weekly medical and psychological support.

Therapy Methods and Specialist Care

The medical team includes physicians, nurses, clinical social workers, and psychologists. Dr. Kanok Uttawichai serves as the Medical Director with over 15 years of experience in addiction medicine. He previously directed the Thanyarak Chiang Mai Hospital. Matt Barnhardt, a substance abuse therapist with over 10 years of experience, specializes in trauma-informed care and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Treatment combines several therapeutic methods to address the root causes of addiction. These include individual psychotherapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting. Family involvement is a central part of the program, with dedicated sessions held every two weeks. The clinic also uses SATIR and TREATNET principles to help heal family dynamics.

Support and Aftercare

Success in recovery continues after the initial stay. The clinic offers a complete aftercare continuum to help prevent relapse. This includes transition and step-down programs, as well as sober house living options. These services help patients adjust to daily life while maintaining their sobriety. Residents also benefit from private counseling with a physician twice a week and daily group therapy sessions.

The Warmth Rehab: more details about the clinic

Thailand, Chiang Mai
The Warmth Rehab is a private addiction rehabilitation center in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The center provides specialized care for substance use disorders, mental health, and trauma recovery. Registered as a rehabilitation facility in 2021, it operates under Ban Khun Morh Clinic.

Certifications and International Recognition

The facility holds certification from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health. It is also recognized under the SHA Plus program for health and safety standards. Partnerships with Recovery.com and Thailand Recovery support high-quality care standards.

International patients are a primary focus. Canadian clients have trusted the center for over a decade. Specialists have worked and trained internationally, including in Canada, to support English-speaking clients.

Addiction and Mental Health Specializations

The clinical team addresses substance dependencies and co-occurring mental health conditions. Treatment pathways cover several types of addiction and trauma-related illnesses:

  • Alcohol dependence and drug addiction
  • Cocaine and cannabis addiction recovery
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Behavioral addictions

Dr. Kanok Uttawichai leads the facility with over 18 years of experience. He focuses on detoxification and trauma-informed psychotherapy. Dr. Matt Barnhardt provides specialized substance abuse therapy and addiction recovery support. He is certified by the International Association of Trauma Professionals.

Treatment Methods and Intensive Care

Every resident begins with a clinical assessment. This helps the team design an individual recovery plan. The center offers a 28 to 30-day inpatient program for structured care. Only 15 residents stay at once, so each person gets close attention.

Medical detoxification is available for patients facing withdrawal. This process is doctor-led through the licensed Ban Khun Morh Clinic. Physicians and nurses monitor the detoxification phase to ensure safety.

The center integrates diverse therapeutic methods into daily recovery routines. Psychologists use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients identify and change harmful patterns. For trauma recovery, specialists use EMDR and Brainspotting when clinically appropriate. These techniques help patients process traumatic memories tied to substance use.

Family involvement is a core part of treatment. Sessions occur every two weeks during the residential stay. They use SATIR and TREATNET principles to improve communication and set healthy boundaries.

Outpatient and Transition Support

Outpatient rehabilitation is available for clients who must maintain work or family duties. These individuals typically engage in 10–12 hours of therapy and medical support weekly. This allows for clinical care while the patient remains at home.

A transition program helps residents return to daily life after primary treatment. Clients continue one-to-one counseling with a physician twice a week. The team monitors stress and relapse risks during this phase. Follow-up care includes trigger management and ongoing mental health support.

Facility Amenities and Patient Services

The residential center sits close to nature for a restorative environment. Residents stay in private rooms with keycard access. Staff members are on-site around the clock.

The center provides a full set of services for residents:

  • Confidential clinical and psychological monitoring
  • Daily meals and laundry service
  • Complimentary shuttle support during the treatment period
  • One off-site restorative activity per week

Communication with the care team is in English. The team includes physicians, nurses, clinical social workers, and psychologists. This diverse staff addresses all physical and mental health needs in one location.

I’m incredibly grateful for my experience at this treatment centre. Wendy, the psychologist, helped me more than I can put into words—her trauma-informed approach gave me real insight into my past and helped me finally understand why I was struggling with addiction. The work we did around trauma truly changed my life. The staff were supportive, professional, and caring from start to finish, and even the cook went above and beyond—great, nourishing food every day. The location is beautiful and peaceful, and the centre itself feels like a luxury rehab, yet it’s offered at a discounted and affordable price, making high-quality trauma and addiction treatment accessible to people who truly need it. I’ve been to other treatment centres before, and this one stands out for its ethics, compassion, and depth of care. I would highly recommend this place to anyone suffering from trauma and addiction who wants real healing, not just surface-level treatment!

As a sister, I will forever be grateful for the care my brother received at The Warmth Rehab. When he arrived, he was struggling deeply and had been on methadone for a long time. The team treated him with dignity, compassion, and real expertise, helping him safely come off methadone while addressing the underlying trauma that kept him stuck. The psychologists, therapists, and staff truly cared—not just about sobriety, but about healing the whole person. They gave my brother the tools, support, and confidence he needed to rebuild his life. The environment was peaceful and beautiful, the care felt like a luxury rehab, yet it was offered at a price that made real treatment accessible to families like ours. Today, my brother is over 3 years sober, living a healthy, meaningful life—and our entire family has been given a second chance because of this place. I would recommend The Warmth Rehab to any family searching for ethical, trauma-informed treatment that actually works.

This facility truly saved my friend’s life. Wendy, the psychologist, is an exceptional trauma therapist, and Matt, the addiction therapist, helped my friend truly understand her addiction. I dropped my best friend off here, and 60 days later she was a completely different person. She is now over nine months clean and still engaged in aftercare. As a sober coach who has helped many Canadians access treatment in Thailand, I can honestly say this is the most ethical and affordable facility I’ve seen. The medical care is top-notch, with excellent English-speaking professionals. I would recommend this centre to anyone without hesitation.

The Warmth Rehab is one of the most reputable addiction and mental health treatment centres in Thailand. As a Canadian drug and alcohol interventionist with over 13 years of experience, I’ve been sending clients to Thailand for more than 10 years, and The Warmth truly stands out. They offer full medical detox, addiction treatment, step-down care, and sober living all in one facility, so clients don’t need to move programs. The medical team is excellent, with English-speaking doctors and attentive nurses. Their Canadian counsellor Matt has worked with many of my clients over the years and brings exceptional experience and care. Wendy, a psychologist and APA member, is one of the best trauma therapists I’ve worked with—many clients continue seeing her in aftercare. The facility is beautiful, with private rooms, a gym, and ice baths, and they provide regular updates and weekly reports. Most importantly, this is the most affordable international treatment centre I’ve worked with without compromising quality. I’ve seen incredible outcomes with my Canadian clients and highly recommend The Warmth.
