How Much Does Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Cost in Republic of Korea?

Laparoscopic hysterectomy in Republic of Korea typically costs from $11,500 to $19,500. The total price depends on whether patients choose specialized gynecological clinics or major university hospitals. In the US, this procedure costs $23,500 on average, while South Korea offers savings of around 34%. Most Korean medical packages include the surgery, general anesthesia, pre-operative exams, and a stay of 2–4 days.

  • Hospital type: Major university centers in Seoul often cost 20-30% more than specialized clinics.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: Opting for Da Vinci robotic technology typically adds 25-50% to the base cost.
  • Surgical complexity: Cases involving extensive endometriosis or large fibroids may increase the final bill.
  • Administrative fees: International departments in Seoul or Busan may charge for coordination and translation services.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing specialized centers like Seoul Miz Hospital offers significant value for complex cases. These facilities have high surgical volumes, with over 10,000 successful uterine treatments performed. You can find board-certified experts who pioneered single-port access techniques here. This approach often results in smaller scars and faster recovery. It is a smart move for patients seeking university-level expertise without the premium pricing of large general hospitals.

"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

Which hospitals in South Korea are best for laparoscopic hysterectomy?

Top hospitals in South Korea for laparoscopic hysterectomy include Seoul Miz Hospital, Samsung Medical Center, and Yonsei University Severance Hospital. These centers specialize in minimally invasive gynecology, utilizing Da Vinci robotic systems and single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) to ensure high success rates and minimal scarring.

  • Seoul Miz Hospital: Features experts like Dr. Yeoun E Park with 37 years of experience.
  • Samsung Medical Center: Known for surgeons like Dr. Heeseok Kang with 2,012+ successful procedures.
  • Ewha Womans University: First hospital globally to perform robot-assisted single-incision hysterectomy for aesthetic results.
  • Severance Hospital: A JCI-accredited facility that has completed over 40,000 robotic-assisted surgeries since 2023.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While major university hospitals like Samsung and Asan handle the highest complexity cases, Seoul Miz Hospital serves 200,000 patients annually and provides 24/7 dedicated international coordination. This specialized focus often results in faster scheduling for routine laparoscopic hysterectomies compared to larger multidisciplinary institutions.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the quick recovery times at Seoul's top-tier facilities and highly recommend university hospitals for their English-speaking staff. Many suggest confirming a surgeon's specific case volume, aiming for those with at least 1,000 procedures for optimal safety.

How long is the recovery period after laparoscopic hysterectomy in South Korea?

Recovery after laparoscopic hysterectomy in South Korea typically includes a hospital stay of 1 to 3 days. Patients generally achieve functional recovery within 2 to 4 weeks, while full internal healing and high-impact activity resumption usually require 6 to 8 weeks in Seoul facilities.

  • Initial recovery: Return to light walking and simple chores occurs within 7 to 14 days.
  • Hospital stay: Most clinics, including Seoul Miz Hospital, offer same-day discharge or 1 night stays.
  • Work timeline: Desk-based professionals often return to work between week 2 and week 3 post-surgery.
  • Travel clearance: Heavy activity and long-haul flights are typically cleared after 14 to 21 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean surgeons like Dr. Heeseok Kang emphasize specialized techniques like single-port access to minimize scarring. Clinical data from top Seoul centers highlights that published outcomes from over 2,000 cases support these faster specialized recovery timelines.

Patient Consensus: Expect fatigue to last longer than physical pain, often persisting for 7 to 10 days. Many note that shoulder pain from surgical gas typically resolves by the fifth day.

What are the advantages of having the procedure done in South Korea?

South Korea offers high-precision laparoscopic hysterectomies with expert surgeons performing thousands of minimally invasive procedures annually. Patients benefit from advanced robotic systems, rapid recovery timelines, and significant savings of 34% compared to average United States costs of $23,500.

  • Advanced technology: Clinics utilize the da Vinci robotic system and single-port access laparoscopy.
  • Expert surgeons: Specialists like Dr. Yeoun E Park have completed over 10,000 successful treatments.
  • Rapid recovery: Patients are typically pain-free within 2 days with a 48-hour hospital stay.
  • Efficient scheduling: Hospitals often provide same-week surgery availability, bypassing long domestic Western waitlists.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries offer standard laparoscopy, South Korean centers like Seoul Miz Hospital specialize in single-port techniques. This approach uses one tiny incision instead of four. Our data shows this method is a major draw for the 200,000 annual patients they serve.

Patient Consensus: Patients are often surprised by the luxury recovery amenities and the seamless integration of traditional treatments like acupuncture to speed up healing. Most find the 7-10 day total travel time manageable when paired with the high level of English-speaking support provided.

What should I expect during pre-operative assessment in South Korea?

Pre-operative assessment for laparoscopic hysterectomy in South Korea is a comprehensive process typically occurring 1 to 2 days before surgery. It includes a high-touch surgeon consultation, detailed blood work, and advanced imaging like 3D ultrasound or pelvic MRI to confirm the minimally invasive approach.

  • Medical screening: Exams include CBC, liver enzyme tests, coagulation profiles, and mandatory chest X-rays.
  • Specialized imaging: Surgeons often review 3D ultrasounds or MRIs in real-time to adjust surgical plans.
  • Anesthesia clearance: Patients meet with an anesthesiologist 2 to 3 days prior for history review.
  • Medication protocol: Clinics require stopping aspirin or NSAIDs 7 to 10 days before the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries delegate pre-op tasks to nurses, South Korean specialists like Dr. Yeoun E Park at Seoul Miz Hospital personally conduct final clearances. This hospital has managed over 10,000 uterine cases, and their surgeons use these assessments to provide consent forms with specific complication percentages tailored to your unique anatomy.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the efficiency of the Korean system, noting that full screenings happen weeks faster than in North America. They appreciate receiving a complete cost breakdown and discharge plan before the procedure even begins.
