I liked the organisation
I liked the organisation. Transfer airport-hotel-clinic-hotel-airport. The interpreter met and accompanied me every step of the way. My tests were ready in a week and I did not wait for the results in Istanbul, when I returned home I contacted the translator and he organised an online consultation with the doctor and sent me a consultation sheet. Will send the consultation sheet translated later.

From personal experience, very bad. Money was taken, no treatment was prescribed. Diagonstik proiti from morning to evening turn from one office to another. I went for 2 days, my condition worsened and I left. Transfer managers, the hotel is well organized. And you should not go to the clinic, the doctors do not understand the patient. This is not a clinic, probably a diagnostic center. With my shortness of breath, I almost died in the corridor, they did not provide honey. help. Generally Emsey for me

I took my mother (Halimo Ileye) to see Dr Baris at Okan's rheumatology clinic as was arranged by you. He only saw her for 25 mins then asked her to come back the following day for blood tests. He saw my mother for another 25 mins on the next day briefly explaining her blood tests' results, then prescribed some osteoarthritis drugs for her and recommended some physical therapy tips and told us that we would get the full report in a day or two. However, when we received the report on Thursday, I asked his secretary to go back to him and ask him to send us a full report and not just her laboratory results and to include all the medications he prescribed for my mother, their commercial names, frequency and length of use, as this was verbally explained during the session and not in writing

Our happiness was beyond limit!!!About the Doctor: I want to express my great gratitude to the coordinating doctor Katya Bonko, I could not say that I was not more attentive and responsive, a competent doctor!!!About the Clinic: On the very first day of our arrival, we were taken to the clinic to see a doctor
I want to express my great gratitude to the coordinating doctor Katya Bonko, I could not say that I was not more attentive and responsive, a competent doctor !!! She felt at a distance that she was worried about me ... My daughter in Russia had hemorrhagic vasculitis mixed, planted for three years on the strictest diet, limited the active child in everything! In short, on their recommendation, I should have put the child in a flask! Where I just did not apply in Russia, but for some reason this diagnosis frightened everyone! Upset I began to search the Internet for answers to my questions and came across Bookimed ... I decided to fill out a questionnaire! Katia immediately contacted me! Having listened to everything that disturbs me, she quickly picked up the Medicalpark clinic and recommended to us a wonderful (as it turned out) Dr. Aysha children's rheumatologist !!! On the very first day of our arrival, we were taken to the clinic to see a doctor. This day for my child was one of the happiest! She lifted all restrictions !!! Our happiness was beyond limit !!! Quickly passed the examination. Said the child is healthy, live a full life! We were given a responsible, good interpreter !!! Thanks to the organizer Aigul, immediately responded and solved the problems (although there were practically no problems, only the language barrier

FAQ about Medication therapy for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the most commonly prescribed medications for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Turkey?

Turkish rheumatologists primarily prescribe hydroxychloroquine and corticosteroids as foundational therapies for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Standard clinical protocols in JCI-accredited centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital also utilize immunosuppressants like azathioprine and advanced biologics such as belimumab for complex or refractory cases.

  • Antimalarial therapy: Hydroxychloroquine stays the primary baseline medication for 91%–97% of Turkish patients.
  • Corticosteroid use: Prednisolone suppresses active inflammation in 70%–92% of patients during disease flares.
  • Immunosuppressive agents: Azathioprine is the leading steroid-sparing drug, followed by mycophenolate for kidney involvement.
  • Biologic treatments: Belimumab and rituximab are reserved for severe cases resistant to conventional therapies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While drug costs in Turkey range from $900 to $2,000, the real value lies in specialist experience. Surgeons like Asst. Prof. Mustafa Serdar Sağ at Medipol Acibadem District Hospital hold dual board certifications in rheumatology and physical medicine. This expertise is vital for managing long-term medication side effects and musculoskeletal health simultaneously.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that hydroxychloroquine is a lifelong commitment to prevent flares but require annual eye exams to monitor safety. Many seek structured tapering plans for prednisone to avoid weight gain while transitioning to maintenance immunosuppressants.

What is the clinical efficacy of SLE medication therapy in Turkish clinics?

Clinical efficacy for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus medication in Turkish clinics is high, with 70% to 80% success rates in symptom management. Approximately 71.3% of patients achieve clinical remission, while 5-year survival rates reach 94.5%. Treatment protocols align with international standards using biological and conventional therapies.

  • Remission rates: Approximately 71.3% of patients in major centers achieve full clinical remission.
  • Treatment targets: Total treat-to-target attainment reaches 74.3% when including low disease activity states.
  • Survival outcomes: Turkish clinics report 10-year survival rates of 90% through consistent flare prevention.
  • Renal efficacy: About 58.5% of lupus nephritis patients achieve remission within 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While private centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital offer JCI-accredited care, university-affiliated experts provide superior biological therapy access. Doctors like Mustafa Serdar Sag at Medipol possess deep subspecialization in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Seeking these specialists ensures higher accuracy in steroid-sparing protocols, which reduces high-dose dependency by 15%.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that hydroxychloroquine effectively manages joint flares. However, many emphasize that university hospitals offer more consistent eye toxicity monitoring during long-term treatment.

Which hospitals in Turkey are recognized for specialized SLE medication therapy?

Recognized Turkish hospitals for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) care include Memorial Şişli, Istanbul Florence Nightingale, and Medipol Mega University Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities provide advanced pharmacological treatments, including targeted biological therapies like Belimumab and Rituximab, alongside multidisciplinary kidney monitoring and specialized diagnostic immunopathy panels.

  • Specialized specialists: Prof. Dr. Sait Burak Erer at Memorial Şişli manages complex SLE cases.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Istanbul Florence Nightingale uses EOS imaging and specialized blood panels for lupus.
  • Academic expertise: Medipol Mega University Hospital provides comprehensive outpatient staging for systemic autoimmune diseases.
  • Biologic infusions: Clinics offer evidence-based protocols including Rituximab and Belimumab for refractory lupus.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While private chains like Memorial offer faster access to biologics, university-affiliated centers like Cerrahpaşa provide a unique advantage. These academic hubs often host clinical trials for new SLE drugs not yet available in standard private practice. Patients with complex, multi-organ involvement benefit from the high concentration of sub-specialists at these tertiary referral centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize bringing translated medical records and requesting English-speaking coordinators early. Many reports suggest that university-affiliated hospitals are superior for catching early kidney complications through rigorous monitoring protocols.

What lifestyle adjustments do Turkish rheumatologists and dermatologists recommend for SLE patients?

Turkish specialists recommend a strict multidisciplinary approach focusing on high-potency photoprotection, a Mediterranean-style anti-inflammatory diet, and consistent smoking cessation. Rheumatologists at centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Liv Hospital Ulus emphasize these adjustments to minimize systemic flares and manage chronic fatigue effectively.

  • Photoprotection protocol: Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily and wear UPF-rated protective clothing.
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition: Adopt a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, fatty fish, and seeds.
  • Exercise guidelines: Perform 150–300 minutes of low-impact activities like swimming or yoga weekly.
  • Tobacco cessation: Quitting smoking is mandatory to maintain the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine therapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Istanbul clinics shows that SLE management often integrates bone health monitoring alongside lifestyle changes. Specialists like Dr. Mustafa Serdar Sag at Medipol prioritize calcium and Vitamin D supplementation for patients on corticosteroids to prevent long-term bone density loss.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that treating 7–9 hours of sleep as medical necessity rather than a luxury significantly reduces flare frequency. They also suggest tracking personal stress patterns to identify mental triggers before they manifest as physical symptoms.
