How Much Does Pregnancy follow-up Cost in Turkey?

Pregnancy follow-up in Turkey typically costs from $100 to $300 depending on the clinic tier and package inclusions. Major medical hubs like Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya offer various prenatal monitoring options. In the US, similar prenatal care costs around $600 on average. Patients in Turkey save approximately 67% compared to US prices.

  • Routine consultations: Cost varies by clinic and typically includes a physical exam and ultrasound.
  • Comprehensive monitoring packages: Often include regular check-ups, detailed fetal scans, and essential blood panels.
  • Advanced screening tests: Genetic testing or 3D/4D ultrasounds usually involve separate fees from standard visits.
  • Clinic location and accreditation: Facilities in Istanbul may charge 15-20% more than those in regional cities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a JCI-accredited facility like Memorial Şişli Hospital or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental ensures high-level safety standards. These centers often provide specialists like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal, who focuses on high-risk pregnancies. Some top-tier Istanbul hospitals even offer green spaces and eco-friendly designs for a more relaxed prenatal experience. For international patients, these premium packages typically include interpreters and VIP transfers.

hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏
To be honest, we found the clinic by searching for the top 10 hospitals in Turkey and chose Memorial, the call centre was very adequate, we were met at the airport by a special clinic transfer car, which was very convenient for us! Then we had a consultation with doctor Semre Kahraman, she explained us the next steps of our operation (IVF) in a very clear language. We are planning to have the operation at the end of November hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏, I forgot to mention the consultation was free which surprised me very pleasantly 😳 as last year I was in Medipole there I paid 220$ for the consultation.
I liked Dr Semre the best.

She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my coordinating doctor Yaroslava from the platform. She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience. Yaroslava even enquired about my impressions after my consultation with the doctor, which was very pleasant. Her responsiveness and support helped me to make an important decision. As for the treatment and the doctor, it is too early to give a final assessment, as we are just starting to work. But I can already say that I chose Memorial Ataşehir Clinic and I was satisfied with the staff, the doctor, the interpreter and the clinic itself. I will definitely write a full review of the results later.
A reverent approach of the doctor, no rush, polite, smiling. And my doctor coordinator Yaroslava.

Yes, I liked it overall. But I didn’t like how translators work - there are not enough Russian-speaking translators, you have to wait for them all the time, once I waited 1.5 hours, once without an interpreter I mixed up the medication, I didn’t take the medicine correctly, because I didn’t understand correctly, even if the translator comes to you, will be in a hurry, because they have a lot of work. The clinic in the Bahcelievler district is large, modern, all tests, medicines can be bought on the spot, the staff is polite. I can’t say the result of infertility treatment yet, since I have only gone halfway through IVF, but I hope for a successful result.

Was offered an appointment and was told it would be online and an interpreter would be provided but there was no interpreter. I was told to pay a deposit but then after the appointment which was suppose to last an hour but lasted 20 minutes (and was started late) was concluded the hospital refused to refund me the deposit when I decided not to proceed! Luckily my credit card was able to get the money back for me.
Nothing
Lack of professionalism, lack of empathy and understanding. Changing the times of my appointment and not having an interpreter available despite promising to have an interpreter.

"The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything
The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything. The only thing I didn’t like was the wait. At the reception no one spoke English or Russian, I had to wait for an interpreter from another part of the clinic. We were hungry and nervous while waiting, but overall the reception and consultation went well.

I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service
My experience in the hospital was not the best one. Please don't get me wrong, the hospital is well maintained and organized. The only problem I had was the visa for my husband. They have assigned interpreter for me in Bulgarian (I have not requested, because my husband doesn't speak my language, so we preferred English communication), however the lady took more than two weeks to replay my email and send the invitation letter. The visa was not ready on time. My treatment started and I had to cancel because my husband was not able to come. We have lost a lot of money and of course the delay of our dream. No one even offer an apology to me.. I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service. Everyone I talk to is very polite, attentive and try to fulfil all the request and solve the problem. Thank you so much. I will be happy to work with you again.

FAQ about Pregnancy follow-up in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Prenatal check-ups in Turkey typically occur monthly until week 28, transitioning to every two weeks until week 36, and becoming weekly until delivery. Private clinics in Istanbul and Ankara often provide 12 to 16 total visits, featuring ultrasounds at every appointment to monitor fetal development.

  • Standard frequency: Visits occur every 4 weeks during the first and second trimesters.
  • Third trimester: Check-ups increase to every 2 weeks starting from the 28th week.
  • Final month: Weekly examinations begin at week 36 to prepare for labor and delivery.
  • Private care: International patients often receive 12 to 16 visits with frequent diagnostic imaging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public protocols mandate 8 to 10 visits, private centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital or Anadolu Medical Center prioritize ultrasound-heavy monitoring. Data shows high-risk or IVF pregnancies often shift to biweekly schedules as early as week 12 for enhanced safety. Confirming your specific schedule upfront is vital as private visits typically range from $100 to $300.

Patient Consensus: Expect more frequent ultrasounds than in the US or UK, as Turkish obstetricians perform them at nearly every visit. Many patients recommend using tracking apps since local hospitals rarely provide printed physical schedules.

Pregnancy follow-up in Turkey involves routine ultrasounds, NIPT for chromosomal risks, and anatomy scans between 18 and 22 weeks. Standard protocols include oral glucose tolerance tests at 24 weeks and Group B Strep swabs by week 37. Monitoring occurs at JCI-accredited centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital.

  • Early screenings: NIPT and triple/quad screens assess chromosomal risks between 11 and 16 weeks.
  • Anatomy scans: Detailed anatomy scans and Doppler blood flow monitoring occur at 18–22 weeks.
  • Diabetes testing: Oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT) are standard for all patients at 24–28 weeks.
  • Thyroid monitoring: Doctors track TSH levels aggressively starting from the first trimester for fetal health.
  • Late-term checks: Group B Strep swabs and cervical length measurements are performed after 35 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish private clinics like Anadolu Medical Center often exceed standard protocols by including Doppler blood flow scans at every mid-to-late appointment. While many countries only use Doppler for high-risk cases, Turkish specialists use it routinely to ensure placental efficiency. This proactive approach provides an extra layer of safety for international patients seeking high-standard prenatal care.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the high frequency of ultrasounds and the immediate availability of detailed fetal echocardiograms if soft markers appear. Many recommend bringing your own supplies for the glucose test to ensure comfort during the 75g screening process.

Turkish government insurance (SGK) fully covers prenatal care at public hospitals for insured residents and citizens. Coverage includes routine check-ups, blood tests, and standard ultrasounds. Many JCI-accredited private facilities also accept SGK, offering partial reimbursement for pregnancy follow-up and specialized diagnostic procedures.

  • Standard coverage: SGK covers 4 to 6 prenatal visits and basic lab screenings.
  • Ultrasound scans: Insurance typically includes 3 to 4 routine fetal ultrasounds at state facilities.
  • Private reimbursement: Contracted private hospitals may reimburse 80% to 90% of basic clinical costs.
  • High-risk care: Advanced genetic screenings like NIPT often require additional out-of-pocket payments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public care is free, major hubs like Istanbul offer a strategic middle ground. Large centers such as Memorial Şişli Hospital or Anadolu Medical Center provide high-end perinatology services. Patients often use SGK for monthly basics but pay privately for detailed mid-trimester structural scans at these top-tier institutions.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find public hospitals reliable but crowded, leading them to switch to private clinics after the first trimester. They recommend verifying premium status via the e-Devlet portal and keeping all invoices for potential insurance reimbursement.

The first ultrasound during pregnancy follow-up in Turkey typically occurs between 6 and 8 weeks of gestation. This early scan confirms a viable intrauterine pregnancy, determines an accurate due date, and rules out ectopic pregnancies through transvaginal or abdominal techniques.

  • Early detection: Private clinics often perform viability scans as early as 5 weeks.
  • Initial screening: Doctors usually confirm pregnancy with beta hCG blood tests before ultrasound.
  • Procedure type: Transvaginal ultrasounds are standard during early weeks for superior diagnostic accuracy.
  • Clinical setting: Major JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul provide same-week appointments for initial scans.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While global guidelines often suggest waiting until week 10, Turkish private hospitals like Memorial Şişli or Hisar Intercontinental prioritize 6-week scans. This approach is highly effective for international patients because it provides immediate peace of mind regarding pregnancy location and heart activity before traveling back home.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the speed of the Turkish private system, noting that scans are available much sooner than in Western public health systems. Many recommend waiting until at least week 6 to ensure the heartbeat is visible and avoid the anxiety of an inconclusive early scan.

Tourists can receive full prenatal care and give birth in Turkey at private hospitals. Istanbul and Antalya feature Joint Commission International accredited facilities with English-speaking obstetric teams. Most international patients choose private care for modern technology, including neonatal intensive care units and flexible epidural availability.

  • Cost savings: Prenatal care and delivery cost 67% less than average United States prices.
  • Arrival timing: Patients should arrive 2 to 4 weeks before the due date to establish care.
  • Clinical expertise: Doctors like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal at Hisar Hospital specialize in high-risk pregnancy.
  • Language accessibility: Major city hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center provide personal coordinators and interpreters.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic follow-up starts at $100, most high-tier Istanbul hospitals like Memorial Şişli bundle services into comprehensive packages. These typically range from $3,000 to $6,000 for vaginal delivery. Choosing a facility with an on-site neonatal intensive care unit is a critical safety factor often overlooked by tourists.

Patient Consensus: Delivering in Turkey is described as highly professional, though patients must prepare for out-of-pocket payments. Obtaining birth certificates for newborns without residency remains a significant administrative step requiring early coordination.

English-speaking doctors are readily available for pregnancy follow-up in Turkey at private health centers. Major international facilities like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Healthcare Group employ specialists with medical training from the UK and US. Most prenatal monitoring occurs in Istanbul and Ankara at JCI-accredited clinics.

  • Specialist availability: Doctors at major hospitals often hold US medical certifications or international fellowships.
  • Hospital accreditation: Top clinics like Memorial Sisli Hospital maintain Joint Commission International safety standards.
  • Support services: International departments provide personal coordinators to assist with communication and medical records.
  • Location focus: English fluency is highest in private Istanbul hospitals focused on international patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While doctors often speak English fluently, nursing staff may have limited language skills. Clinics like Memorial Sisli Hospital solve this by providing dedicated English-speaking coordinators. High-risk pregnancy specialists, like Dr. Esra Tustas Haberal, prioritize these clear communication channels for international patients. Choosing a clinic with JCI accreditation ensures that administrative and medical support meets global communication standards.

Patient Consensus: Many find the $100–$250 cost for private prenatal visits worthwhile for clear communication, especially during high-risk pregnancies. Patients recommend using translation apps for quick interactions with support staff despite having English-speaking doctors.

To register a newborn in Turkey, you must submit the hospital-issued birth certificate (dogum belgesi) to the local Civil Registry Office (Nüfus Müdürlüğü). Parents must provide valid identification, such as Turkish IDs or passports with residency permits, and a marriage certificate within 30 days of birth.

  • Birth certificate: Obtain the signed certificate from the hospital before discharge from the maternity ward.
  • Parental identification: Present national IDs, passports, or valid residence permits for both providing parents.
  • Marriage certificate: Provide an official marriage document to verify legal status and simplify registration.
  • Registration timeline: Complete the process within 30 days to avoid administrative fines for late filing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While large centers like Anadolu Medical Center provide comprehensive paperwork, registration status varies by region. Registry offices in rural areas often require a separate visit to the village administrator (muhtar). Always confirm which documents the hospital submits electronically versus what you must carry manually.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that name spellings must match perfectly across all IDs to avoid difficult corrections. Expats should prepare officially translated and apostilled documents early to ensure smooth dual citizenship registration.
