How Much Does Embryo cryopreservation Cost in Turkey?

Embryo cryopreservation in Turkey typically costs from $600 to $1,000 depending on the clinic tier and storage duration. While the average US price for this procedure is $15,300, patients in Turkey often see savings of around 95%. Main medical hubs include Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya, where top hospitals offer freezing services as part of IVF protocols or standalone options.

  • Annual storage maintenance: Costs typically range from 15-20% of the initial freezing fee per year.
  • Frozen embryo transfer: Usually adds a separate fee when transitioning from storage to a clinical cycle.
  • Clinic location: Packages in Istanbul may cost 15-20% more than in regional cities like Izmir.
  • Comprehensive IVF bundles: International patient packages often include medications, hotel stays, and VIP airport transfers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a boutique center can offer superior value through personalized care limits. For example, Arti IVF Clinic restricts patient intake to maintain a 65% success rate under Professor Alper Sismanoglu. Meanwhile, JCI-accredited giants like Memorial Şişli Hospital provide high-volume reliability for international patients from 160+ countries. Smart planners should look for clinics where the first year of storage is already bundled into the base price.

hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏
To be honest, we found the clinic by searching for the top 10 hospitals in Turkey and chose Memorial, the call centre was very adequate, we were met at the airport by a special clinic transfer car, which was very convenient for us! Then we had a consultation with doctor Semre Kahraman, she explained us the next steps of our operation (IVF) in a very clear language. We are planning to have the operation at the end of November hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏, I forgot to mention the consultation was free which surprised me very pleasantly 😳 as last year I was in Medipole there I paid 220$ for the consultation.
I liked Dr Semre the best.

She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my coordinating doctor Yaroslava from the platform. She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience. Yaroslava even enquired about my impressions after my consultation with the doctor, which was very pleasant. Her responsiveness and support helped me to make an important decision. As for the treatment and the doctor, it is too early to give a final assessment, as we are just starting to work. But I can already say that I chose Memorial Ataşehir Clinic and I was satisfied with the staff, the doctor, the interpreter and the clinic itself. I will definitely write a full review of the results later.
A reverent approach of the doctor, no rush, polite, smiling. And my doctor coordinator Yaroslava.

Yes, I liked it overall. But I didn’t like how translators work - there are not enough Russian-speaking translators, you have to wait for them all the time, once I waited 1.5 hours, once without an interpreter I mixed up the medication, I didn’t take the medicine correctly, because I didn’t understand correctly, even if the translator comes to you, will be in a hurry, because they have a lot of work. The clinic in the Bahcelievler district is large, modern, all tests, medicines can be bought on the spot, the staff is polite. I can’t say the result of infertility treatment yet, since I have only gone halfway through IVF, but I hope for a successful result.

Was offered an appointment and was told it would be online and an interpreter would be provided but there was no interpreter. I was told to pay a deposit but then after the appointment which was suppose to last an hour but lasted 20 minutes (and was started late) was concluded the hospital refused to refund me the deposit when I decided not to proceed! Luckily my credit card was able to get the money back for me.
Nothing
Lack of professionalism, lack of empathy and understanding. Changing the times of my appointment and not having an interpreter available despite promising to have an interpreter.

"The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything
The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything. The only thing I didn’t like was the wait. At the reception no one spoke English or Russian, I had to wait for an interpreter from another part of the clinic. We were hungry and nervous while waiting, but overall the reception and consultation went well.

I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service
My experience in the hospital was not the best one. Please don't get me wrong, the hospital is well maintained and organized. The only problem I had was the visa for my husband. They have assigned interpreter for me in Bulgarian (I have not requested, because my husband doesn't speak my language, so we preferred English communication), however the lady took more than two weeks to replay my email and send the invitation letter. The visa was not ready on time. My treatment started and I had to cancel because my husband was not able to come. We have lost a lot of money and of course the delay of our dream. No one even offer an apology to me.. I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service. Everyone I talk to is very polite, attentive and try to fulfil all the request and solve the problem. Thank you so much. I will be happy to work with you again.

FAQ about Embryo cryopreservation in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the legal storage period for frozen embryos in Turkey?

The standard legal storage period for frozen embryos in Turkey is 5 years. Couples can extend this duration in 5-year increments by submitting a formal request to the Ministry of Health. Both partners must provide written consent and remain legally married throughout the storage period.

  • Annual renewal: Couples must renew contracts every year to confirm their decision for continued storage.
  • Marriage requirement: Turkish law only permits embryo cryopreservation and usage for legally married couples.
  • Automatic termination: Storage ends and embryos are destroyed if a spouse dies or divorce occurs.
  • Mandatory consent: Written permission from both spouses is required for freezing, continuing, or destroying embryos.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While the 5-year limit is standard, private centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Memorial Ataşehir Hospital—which reports a 65% IVF success rate—often provide more streamlined administrative support for extension applications. Patients should verify if annual storage fees, typically ranging from $550 to $960, include these mandatory Ministry of Health filings.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of keeping contact details updated with the clinic to avoid the accidental destruction of embryos after the initial 5-year term expires.

Is embryo cryopreservation allowed for single women in Turkey?

Turkish law strictly prohibits embryo cryopreservation for single women. Legal regulations mandate that only married, heterosexual couples can create or freeze embryos. However, single women may legally undergo egg freezing at JCI-accredited clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital if they have documented medical necessity.

  • Legal status: Embryo freezing requires a legal marriage certificate under Turkish fertility regulations.
  • Medical egg freezing: Allowed for single women with low ovarian reserve or cancer.
  • Required documentation: A three-doctor committee report must certify medical necessity for singles.
  • Usage restriction: Frozen eggs cannot be fertilized in Turkey unless the woman marries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While embryo freezing is restricted for singles, Turkey remains a top destination for the initial step of egg freezing. Clinics like Memorial Ataşehir Hospital report a 65% IVF success rate, which is highly competitive globally. Many patients choose to freeze eggs in Istanbul for $600 to $1,000 then transfer them to countries with more flexible laws for fertilization.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that major Istanbul facilities strictly enforce marital status checks. Many suggest freezing eggs locally as a first step before considering clinics in nearby regions like North Cyprus for embryo creation.

What are the success rates for frozen embryo transfers in Turkey?

Success rates for frozen embryo transfers in Turkey average 40.1% for live births, significantly outperforming fresh transfer averages of 30.6%. High-tier clinics in Istanbul and Antalya utilizing vitrification technologies report embryo survival rates reaching 98% to 100% after thawing for blastocyst-stage transfers.

  • Age-based outcomes: Patients under 35 achieve success rates between 50% and 60% per transfer.
  • Genetic screening: Utilizing PGT-A tested embryos increases the clinical pregnancy rate to approximately 58.6%.
  • Developmental stage: Day 5 blastocyst transfers yield 40% to 70% success compared to earlier stages.
  • Clinical expertise: Facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital report specialized IVF success rates of 65%.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier Turkish centers like Memorial Healthcare Group shows a 65% success rate, which stays consistent across their multiple JCI-accredited locations. While the national average is 40.1%, choosing a high-volume facility that serves patients from over 160 countries often bridges the gap between average and peak clinical outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that embryo quality and age remain the primary drivers of success regardless of the destination. Many recommend confirming that the clinic uses ISO-certified labs to ensure post-thaw survival stays above 80% for the best results.

What happens to embryos after divorce or death of a spouse?

The fate of embryos after divorce or death is primarily governed by the written consent agreements signed at the fertility clinic. If no prior agreement exists, Turkish regulations and common clinical practices typically require the ongoing consent of both partners to maintain or use cryopreserved embryos.

  • Contractual disposition: Clinics use signed forms to determine if embryos are destroyed, donated, or awarded.
  • Turkish regulations: Ongoing mutual consent is often mandatory; without it, clinics generally discard the embryos.
  • Posthumous use: Direct written authorization is required for a surviving spouse to use stored embryos.
  • Legal personhood: Unlike some regions, embryos are generally treated as shared property under specific contracts.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital maintain high success rates, they strictly adhere to documented legal presets. Data shows that $550 to $960 covers the cryopreservation process, but these fees do not include the legal protection of your biological assets. Always store notarized copies of your consent forms independently of the clinic to ensure your reproductive rights remain enforceable during sudden life changes.

Patient Consensus: Many patients regret not discussing `what if` scenarios during their initial consultation. Research suggests that naming embryos as specific beneficiaries in a will has helped some individuals secure sole custodianship after a spouse's death.

How many embryos can be transferred after thawing?

The number of embryos transferred after thawing typically ranges from 1 to 2, depending on patient age, embryo quality, and genetic status. Turkish clinics generally prioritize single embryo transfer (SET) for patients under 35 years with high-quality blastocysts to minimize the medical risks of multiple pregnancies.

  • Age under 35: Clinics usually recommend transferring 1 or maximum 2 high-quality embryos.
  • Patients over 38: Specialists may transfer 2 embryos for those with a poor prognosis.
  • Survival rates: Modern vitrification techniques in Turkey achieve 90% to 95% thaw survival.
  • Genetic screening: Transferring a single euploid (genetically screened) embryo is the global standard.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While US clinics often charge over $15,300 for these procedures, Turkish centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Arti IVF Clinic maintain high success rates at $600 to $1,000. This lower cost structure allows patients to opt for sequential single embryo transfers across multiple cycles, which significantly increases the cumulative live birth rate without the health risks of carrying twins or triplets.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of requesting specific thaw survival statistics for blastocysts versus earlier-stage embryos. Most find the `quality over quantity` approach reassuring for ensuring a healthy, low-risk singleton pregnancy.

Can women freeze oocytes for social/future fertility in Turkey?

Women can freeze oocytes for future fertility in Turkey, where the legal framework recently expanded to include anticipated infertility. While social freezing for convenience is formally restricted, patients with documented low ovarian reserve or family histories of early menopause qualify for vitrification at JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Legal eligibility: Medical necessity or low ovarian reserve (AMH testing) permits freezing for single women.
  • Storage regulations: Oocytes remain in cryopreservation for 5–10 years with required annual renewal documentation.
  • Future usage: Turkish law requires a legal marriage certificate to use frozen eggs for IVF.
  • Procedure cost: Specialized cryopreservation typically ranges from $600 to $1,000 at top-tier clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Memorial Atasehir Hospital and Arti IVF Clinic show a 65% success rate for IVF procedures. This high performance often stems from experienced specialists like Professor Alper Sismanoglu, who has performed over 4,000 procedures. Choosing clinics with high patient volumes and JCI accreditation ensures laboratory standards that maximize egg viability after thawing.

Patient Consensus: Patients report the process is significantly faster than in the UK, with wait times of only 1–2 weeks. Many highlight that total costs, including stimulation medications, remain thousands of dollars cheaper than in Western Europe or the US.
